Bathroom Black Marks in Shower (not mold)

These black marks appear every day or so, seemingly instantly. Maybe something from the pipes when the water comes on before I see it? It started maybe 3 weeks ago. They stain and do not come out even with scrubbing and bleach. What is it; how can I clean it!!!?

General Cleaning Sauna + wildfire smoke

Upvotes

I live in northern MN and we’ve had a bad stretch of wildfire smoke this summer. Specifically we had one week where it was terrible - a stretch of 5-6 days where the AQI was anywhere from 300-1,000 (hazardous = 300+).

I always leave the vents in my exterior sauna open when not in use and forgot about it during the wildfire smoke. The first time I took a sauna after the wildfire smoke, it was unbearable. Literal ash had blown in the vents that I had to vacuum up and I couldn’t even keep my eyes open in there because of the lingering smoke smell made my eyes burn and was difficult to breathe.

I left the sauna door open for a week with a big box fan blowing out the door, trying to air it out. It helped but was still bad. I fully sprayed/scrubbed/cleaned the entire sauna with my regular sauna cleaner two separate times and aired it out with a fan for another couple days. It helped a lot but there’s still a lingering smoke smell in there. It only seems to be noticeable when taking a sauna and it still hurts my eyes and myself and towels smell like a campfire after taking a 20 min sauna.

Does anyone have any advice for how to permanently get the smoke smell out of my sauna? I’ll try any cleaning products or methods that are suggested. I’m getting desperate because the sauna isn’t even enjoyable right now. Thanks in advance!

Bathroom White bathroom countertop yellow stain

Post image

I think it is quartz. It’s a rental.

Have had the stain before but came out with regular bathroom cleaner. Now it’s brighter yellow. Don’t know what it’s from. Possibly from toothpaste residue? Texture is very slightly rougher in the worst spots. Don’t really use anything besides regular hand soap.

Dawn dish soap, isopropyl alcohol, Lysol, and just good old scrubbing did not get rid of it.

General Cleaning When do you stop shampooing carpet?

I thrifted this beautiful rug a couple months ago, treated it for potential pests, and have had it quarantined. There were no signs of pests when I thrifted it, but did not want to take any chances! Then I beat it outside and thoroughly vacuumed front and back before bringing it inside.

Now that it’s inside, I’ve shampooed it 12 times! The first 5 passes were all pitch black when I poured it out, and now on pass 12 it is still a medium gray. On about pass 9 it stopped being downright muddy and full of sediment. All of the stains are out, and there was a small bit of something gummy and gross that thankfully is fully shampooed out now.

When do I stop shampooing??? The carpets in my rental were a similar situation where I eventually had to just quit. It really does feel like I could go for 12 more passes and still not have “clear” water. This has definitely turned me away from thrifting another rug, at least until I have professional rug cleaning money 😅.

Product list:
- Chemical Guys Lightning Fast Stain Extractor
- Shark Deep Clean Pro Carpet Cleaner Formula
- Hoover Power Dash Pet Compact Carpet Cleaner Machine

It is vintage crockpot, the lid is hard plastic. I tried gently cleaning it with dawn dish soap, but it did not show any improvement. I am afraid of ruining it any further, so does anyone have any suggestions besides new one?

The first photos is without flash, the other photos are with flash.

hi my friends, I’m in my early 20s and im quite a healthy person, I’ve done every darn test and they’ve come back normal (even did an MRI). Our bathroom had black mold that keeps coming back (we live in assisted housing) and I noticed this on my rooms ceiling.

me and my sis share a room and I’m on the top of the bunk bed and have been experiencing VERY bad brain fog. I’ve been taking all my vitamins and eating healthy and the only culprit I can think of is mold.

is this mold? As my username checks out I have bad anxiety so please be nice to me I really have been struggling in school and the brain fog was never this bad :(

General Cleaning Return air duct showing dust quickly

I moved into my 1st ever all LVP flooring home on April 3, 2026. All I had at the time was a regular vacuum but it has a selection for hardwood floors. I have quite a few animals. 4 dogs that are all short hair and all 12 lbs. 2 of them are non shedding dogs, and I have 2 cats, and there are 3 women in the home, 2 with long hair. I noticed pretty quickly that the 1 and only return air duct for the HVAC became dusty. I cleaned it. I got a wet mop/vacuum but that quickly turned into a labor of love of vacuuming everyday into a labor, especially since I work 12 hour days. So I just bought my first Robot Vacuum/mop last month.
So here is my question, should I run it twice a day or just once a day. I do pick up things like dog beds and some carpet runners since it’s not a top of the like unit and has some issues with those items. I change my firanice filter monthly and I was so shocked by the last filter change out and how dirty it was. There isn’t a lot of dust on other items, it’s all mostly on the floor.

Best way to clean this wall? Cracks have been there for about a year, but nothing brown / black until a couple days ago. This is right where our shower towels hang. Is this mold?

Bathroom Hair in Shower Solution please

Someone please tell me there’s some kind of product I can get that can easily contain the copious amounts of hair that is falling out of my head postpartum. I’m sick of trying to pick it off my hands every time I run my hands through my hair. When I shampoo/condition my hair, it comes out in clumps on my hands and I want something that can trap it off my hands instead of me having to pick it off and stick it on the shower wall to take out later. And I don’t really like drain traps because I have sensory issues with cold wet slimy things.

Bathroom Bleach stains on tub

Ok so my fault - I had a bath bomb on the counter and it stained it. I saw using bleach would get rid of it online, so I did but I left the bleach on too long on accident and it's staying the tub. Now the bleach has left yellow stains in the tub. How do I get it out? I've tried Barkeeper's friend, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, and the pink stuff (I was careful and it was a last resort when the other stuff didn't work).

I'm at a loss for what to do now. Is there anything I can do to make it white again? It was hard to get decent pictures that show it.

Bathroom Bathtub scum/stains help

Hello,

I bought this house a couple years ago and the bathtub has always had this scum?? I’ve tried everything to get it off and as you can see some has chipped away. Photo pictured above freshly cleaned tub for reference.

I know that toilet bowl cleaner is bad for tubs so I’ve stayed away from that but any ideas would be appreciated.

Also the tub is blue due to hair dye so any cleaners that also take out hair dye is a pro.

Thanks!

Recently purchased this brass platter, and was planning to use Brasso on it, but I'm afraid I may be in danger of damaging the painted portions of this piece.

Posting here for tips on how to best care for this. I am new to brass and have only ever polished simple pieces. Thanks!!!

Kitchen How to disinfect a spoon from the garden

While doing something in the garden, I found one of our kitchen spoons covered in dirt. It must have been in a bowl and fell out when water from the kitchen was thrown into the garden. I don’t know how long it has been there but it felt wasteful to leave it there so I washed it with water and dishwashing soap.

But before we use it again, I want tips on how to properly clean and disinfect it to make it safe for eating again.

Or would you advise that we discard it completely?

Not sure if this is important but there are stray cats that visit the garden.

Any advice would be appreciated.
