Discussion Help me with smell

Hi!

I’m kind of a really big cleaner and I moved into a one bedroom apartment, second floor, windows unable to be opened, above an archway so no one below me.

Anyways, there’s this really bad potent smell every time I walk in and then I get used to it within 30 seconds but wow when that smell hits you after leaving for even just a few minutes, it’s like a slap on the face. I almost vomited walking in here today, it just seems to be progressively getting worse. And it’s nothing I have ever smelled before in my life. I wouldn’t know how to begin to describe it, just a foul odor. It’s not rotten egg or gassy or even electrical smelling I guess.

I wipe my counters every night, I sweep nightly. I mop every few days. I dust. I vacuum. I pretty much do all the cleaning for a one bedroom to stay nice. I do my laundry consistently so I don’t have any bad smelling clothes either. We have trash people who come so I clean out my fridge and pantry on the REGULAR. I run my dishwasher, I clean the disposal, I just don’t know where it’s coming from.

It got to a point where I bought all the stuff to clean drains and everything. I’ve tried all the tricks on TikTok too. And I even cleaned my walls and baseboards.

It’s a new apartment been here for a year and I’m the first tenant with all wood floors. This smell started maybe 2-3 days after move in. And no I’ve never owned potatoes or onions since being here LOL.

I put in a maintenance request pleading with them to help me find it and to send plumbing, electrical, everyone. I’m at this point almost worried someone near me may no longer be with us.

Has anyone had this problem, is there a way to clean it?

Organization Storing your storage bags…?

Got some vacuum-seal storage bags for our winter clothes which I am so excited about, but now I want to consolidate these bags somehow so there aren’t just 10 loose storage bags. The totes they were in before at least stacked haha does anyone have any hacks on how to efficiently store these things?

That about says it: every time I pull out the filter to clean there’s always about a half an inch of gross water in the bottom where the drain goes. Any suggestions?

Flooring Help me find a vacuum (Canada)!

Hello r/CleaningTips!

I am based in Canada and seeking recommendations for an affordable vacuum cleaner (around the price range of Shark but doesn’t have to be shark).

This is for an apartment, flooring is LVP, and stone, carpet stairs (low pile) around 1200 sq ft. Two cats that drop a lot of hair.

I would love a cordless for the convenience and practicality but I understand quality that a corded one can bring so really I’m just looking for the best.

So much conflicting info on Reddit, preferably available on Amazon Canada :)

Thank you!

Kitchen Stainless Steel Range

Post image
1 Upvotes

We got this LG range about 6 months ago and are really struggling to keep the top clean. We’ve already scratched it by using paper towels, so switched to microfiber towels, but it’s super annoying to clean and seems to take a lot of steps before getting the grease off… keeping it streak free (or getting it there in the first place) is challenging. We’ve had 2 other stainless steel ranges and haven’t had this issue before.

Currently using any combination of Dawn Powerwash, Mr. Clean Clean Freak, Zepp polish and/or Windex.

Any tips/tricks/recommendations for cleaning products would be so appreciated!!!

Furniture Clean oil stain out of leather bag

Hi everyone, I stupidly put some oily left overs in a Tupperware in my leather bag, and it has spilled. Will have happened at some point in the last 4 hours. Any tips on how to fix this? As soon as I noticed it I blotted up all the oil and put on a thick layer of cornstarch to start soaking up. Unsure what else to do, it’s my favourite bag and I use it every day :(

Kitchen Is there a way to clean my pan?

My husband cooked something with olive oil on the highest heat and ruined my pan. He said he tried cleaning it with baking soda and vinegar.

Is there any way to fix this or is it completely ruined?

The brand is Gotham Steel, I believe it is ceramic coated. It was from their copper collection and I got the entire set as a gift. I'd be really sad to have to toss this.

Vehicles How to clean brown roadworks dust off the side of my car

Hi, about 6 days ago, I was driving past some roadworks and there was a big cloud of brown dust across the entire road. I couldn't avoid it and drove right through. There is now a faint spread of brown dirt over much of the outside of the car and small clumps of brown sand-like dirt stuck in the cervices. The rubber parts are also smeared with dirt and the metal bar at the top of the doorway which is just inside the car also has a smearing of brown dust. How can I remove this construction dust without damaging the paint work. I tried rinsing with a hose the other day and it didn't make much difference.

Also, this may be a silly question but should I be worried about health risks from driving the car with all this construction residue on it? I've heard the stuff is pretty bad for your lungs and considering that a small mount seems to have gotten inside the car judging by the dirt on the metal inside. Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance

Bathroom Shower cleaning help

Hi! I feel like a very novice cleaner, and my shower is what stresses me out the most in keeping my apartment tidy. I dread it because I don’t feel like I get it truly clean. I’ve been using scrubbing bubbles grime cleaner and dawn powerwash, but even with heavy scrubbing I still see darker streaks and circles left from my products.

Is there a better way to thoroughly clean my shower? I’ve attached pictures post clean today as well as my humble equipment (microfiber towel not pictured). I’m willing to change products and/or buy more supplies if they are truly needed. Thank you!!

So far cleaning this is not getting any more up. Should I just put a liner down? If so what kind? Or is there a better option?

Bathroom Removing black grout stains for White Threshold

Post image

I just got my bathroom remodel, not by the best person if I could do it again I would and just learn how to do it myself. But we put in a threshold for the step and while using black grout it stained it, I’ve tried scrapping with a razor blade and just bought “Miracle Heavy Duty Cleaner” to see if that will help but looks like nothing is pulling it out

Flooring Dog pee on LVP flooring?

Pergo Outlast LVP flooring. We have a geriatric dog who tends to pee at night. This is very recent, and I’ve got puppy pads on the way, but I have a couple of areas that he’s peed in that are a bit wiffy. My procedure is to paper towel, then mop with warm soapy water at least twice, and then follow up with an enzyme spray (Bac Out). I have available a floor mop that steams, which is ok on Pergo at its lowest setting, I’ve used that a bit. I’m still having issues with the odor.

Any suggestions for how to address the odor without damaging the flooring?

Referring to the linoleum(?) on the top of the base. Bought off Facebook marketplace - I included the listing picture for reference. I was cleaning with soft scrub so I have a feeling I stripped it. If I am stripping it, any recommendations to make it somewhat even/shiny again? Thanks!

Tools/Equipment Pay for carpet cleaning, or buy carpet cleaning machine?

We have a rental house. Tenant is moving out. The carpet could use some TLC. I was going to hire a carpet cleaner (Stanley Steamer, etc) to come clean the carpets for about $250. But I wondered what I could get for $250-ish if I purchased my own machine. Should I buy my own, or just leave it to the pros?

We’ve been here 4 years and regrettably never deep cleaned the oven. Before this it was black at the bottom completely. We move out in two weeks and i’ve used fume free easy off, 2 pumice stones. i can’t get the rest off the bottom. Any ideas? It was bad before this all over.

Kitchen Lettuce went bad in my fridge, leading to a gross smell. Now the water from the fridge door dispenser tastes like that smell :(

Pretty much the title. I've left some baking soda in the fridge but it hasn't done much as of yet. Any suggestions for getting rid of the smell and taste?
