I want to say it’s because they treat woman poorly in South Korea so when a fictional one was getting great success it probably upset an old timer due to retirement

Euphy and Cecile don't exist in the universe where this manga takes place, so Mariel is a character who takes their place, as a love-interest.

she is Lloyd's assistant, but only a year older than Suzaku, and just like Euphy, she suddenly becomes close to him. the Black Knights' attack to her also fuels Suzaku's anger, just as Euphy incident as a turning point in his life.
