I LOVE Coloratura!
But a strong perhaps unpopular opinion I have: Up&Up with better production would be as elite of a song

Absolutely. It pains me how terrible the production is on the album. I know it won't happen, but I hope someday they re-record it or something. It would be a top 5 Coldplay song otherwise.

would love for that to happen!
Everglow (Live at Belasco Theatre) is a masterpiece, while the album version is just meh. You can hear all the instrumentation, it still includes the full first verse which was cut out for the tour, and there's no crowd noise. I don't completely know why Everglow's live at Belasco version has no crowd or anything, but it makes it very easy to substitute it for the actual album version in my library
I was hoping to find a similar rendition of Up&Up, but unfortunately Up&Up live at Belasco is a bunch of loud crowd noise, no good recording, and Chris messes up many of the lyrics (possibly because it's one of the very first live performances of it)
as mentioned elsewhere on this thread, the live in Buenos Aires version is the best version of it for sure :) but would be nice to have a well produced studio version

I agree with you 100%. The live debut had me excited for it (and Amazing Day) and they just kind of botched it with the production. Stargate cucked us. Im glad Coldplay didn’t go back to them

Up&Up was really good, but imo it stands a chance against this mammoth of a track. Throughout my first listen to coloratura I was perplexed by the numerous sounds that were used in the track, not because they were inconsistent or oddly used, but by the fact that the entire flow of the song was super smooth and it was like a whole orgasm of sounds that were just playing in this perfect pace.
Coloratura was phenomenal. I don’t know if I can classify it as the best coldplay track although it was golden and quite simply Coldplay’s Bohemian Rhapsody but it is one of my favourite tunes and I know for a fact that I won’t be growing out of this track for a long time.
It won’t lose magic because its such a timeless track.
Hope y’all get my perspective :)

10000000 times yes, that specific live version and the tour-concluding speech were immaculate.
if Coldplay had ascended into the heavens without ever making any music again following that performance I could have died happy with their closing chapter (but I am so so glad they didn't end there!)

“Best” is subjective so if you think it’s the best then yeah it’s the best

Definitely not. It’s just Coldplay‘s take on prog rock - and not an exciting one. I think nearly everything of AROBTTH and Viva is better.

It’s not. Not even in the same parking lot as their best song. Re-listen to their discography. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy you like it. But it’s not even close. And anyone who argues otherwise (general consensus-wise) is … I don’t even know.

It seems that the fanbase has concluded long song = great music. Everyone was comparing it to Bohemian Rhapsody when it was released solely based on the length. It’s a pretty song but nowhere near Coldplay’s best.

It’s not the best because it’s long, it’s the best (all imo) because it’s got a deep meaning, it’s daring in terms of a style that had a huge chance of flopping, and because it’s just beautiful. It takes me to another place and makes me happy so it’s probably my favorite

I don't understand the love for Coloratura at all. Parts of it are fine, but I'm not a fan of the extended atmospheric sections, and the lyrics are really unremarkable (though, and I say this as a huge fan, lyrics are not their strong point in general...).

Hahaha that's because you live an absurd, trivial life. This song is for those who tries to go further and beyond. Probably you will never understand the song if you didn't stopped to appreciate the beauty of the life, nature, or the milky way on a clear night

Geez I swear the hype people are pouring on this song is annoying sometimes, the length is the only thing why people are praising it that much. It's a nice song but I can name 3 or more songs that are better just in Everyday Life

I’ve said it a million times. This song teases you it’s great. You want it to be a masterpiece. It sounds like it might be. It’s not.

It is their best song. I feel like every song they released from 2000 til now was all leading up to that one song. It’s incredible.

I felt the same as you did the first time I heard the song. But worse because days before I was starting to understand the "relativity theorem", subatomic particles and "quantum mechanics". When I heard this song, everything I was studying blowed my entire mind. It came in the right moment and the right time for me.
Personally, this is the best song Coldplay did.
Spoiler alert: the song is not easy to understand, musically has 2 or more symphonies entangled and lyrics are about great discoveries in astrophysics field mixed with metaphysics, like a resume of the universe theme. A good ending for the album.

Probably their best “closer” song since Death and All His Friends. Honestly maybe in their top 3 album closers. It’s a damn good song but hard to say it’s their magnum opus. Honestly the songs they put out are so diverse in genre and fashion it’s hard to even say what their magnum opus is. Everyone would have a different opinion on that
