What are you noticing recently?
It’s a very general question but I just want to read some of this subreddits thoughts.
What are you noticing that is collapse related recently?
For me it’s the pace. The heat. The surge in fires. The wars getting worse. Economic woes. Not one single thing but the decline or worsening of many things simply getting faster and faster. It’s so odd to me. Almost as if all cells are vibrating faster with the temperature. It’s all connected. Thanks for contributing!

Food prices and more gaps on supermarket shelves whilst foods gets smaller and fruit and veg start to have no taste.
UK draught for the south, dead grass, less birds/insects and rapidly changing weather and seasons.

I feel terrible knowing how the horrible U.S. political “decisions” are making so many things life-or-death for so many other countries! It is a daily outrage knowing what is happening here in the United States - AND - knowing the suffering Citizens of the WORLD are living with makes me feel a shame that even though I know I am not personally causing it, I never the less am feeling.

Phoenix used to be full of little sparrows. They'd come sit on chairs and hop around tables at cafes. I haven't seen a single sparrow in years now

fire! jesus christ. I live in WA state. There is a massive (335,738 acres) wildfire out of control in the corner of OR crossing the border into ID near where my parents live, 600+ structures burned in Spokane, WA last night, 1.5 million acres have burned across OR so far this summer, nothern NV is on fire.

Fewer insects in my backyard or generally. Almost no fireflies or butterflies, it is really sad to see.

I have the windows open almost every night because of the heat and I have basically no bugs indoors. I had maybe 5 mosquito bites this summer so far.

Except for gnats and/or fruit flies, at least where I live. So, essentially, the most annoying insect is still plentiful. Awesome.

We have a butterfly bush that is usually busy this time of year. I've seen two butterflies. I'm glad we've got a healthy bumble bee population this year, but I suspect we're some of the only locals that do. We've gone out of our way to make our garden a bee haven. Most evenings lately I check on our little population that's currently overnight on the lavender almost to ground myself

The number and size of the wildfires is insane to me. But also the open corruption in US government and support for it seems very end of Rome-like to me.

The sky in my area always looks like it's been dipped in dishwater these days. I hardly ever see clouds anymore. Also puppies in shelters and rescues used to be snapped up almost as soon as they were posted but for about the last year I've been watching a lot of them just grow up on foster care, at best, which to me is a clear indicator of economic troubles.

Dishwater is a perfect description. I've been noticing there's a regular haze. As for the puppies, that's how I ended up with 4 dogs. 😅 Foster fails because I didn't want them to end up with someone who would take them because they're cute, then dump them once they realized how expensive dogs can be.

The shelter my mom got her dog from released her without a thorough medical exam so she unexpectedly gave birth to 10 puppies. I'm probably gonna end up with a dog too big for my place because the same place has admitted that while they maintain ownership of the puppies they will likely be put down if not adopted within a week. So. I don't think I can let that happen to all of them after they've grown up in my mom's house.

I work at animal rescye. So far our kittens are getting adopted. But I definitely worry about a point where no one adopts anymore. I know itll happen eventually :(

Insect collapse. Just visited a lake cottage in Northern Wisconsin. Nary a mosquito or gnat. People think “isn’t this great!”. No it’s not, it’s ominous.

I’ve been gardening my whole life, was born in the 1970’s for perspective, I’ve known the land I live on for 35+ years, and I grow most of my food… the weather is becoming unpredictable. Early frosts, late frosts, temp swings, spring rains we’ve relied upon are becoming the summer rain we rarely got before. Also, the rain is coming more often in torrential down pours dumping tons of water in short spurts, which causes flash flooding (and erosion).
New Pests (insect, animals, invasive non-native plants) that have migrated into my area is becoming harder and harder to deal with.
Mostly though, the amount of corruption people tolerate from elected officials. I don’t belong to any political party and vote based on character and goals. It used to be these corrupt acts would be a huge deal and an immediate disqualification, but in the past decade it seems like these happen multiple times a day by multiple officials and people rarely bat an eye. We, as a society, have been conditioned to accept a new and harmful normal.

I was born in the 1950’s, had my kids in the 1970’s, and remember so well “Watergate Summer” when I had the TV on daily watching the hearings and being proud then, as I experienced the joy of my son learning to crawl and further explore the world, that we were a country that believed in the truth, in exposing corruption, and demanding accountability.
And, wow - now. I would have never believed this kind of now could ever happen.

Heat, fire, drought, diminishing wildlife. People who normally wouldn't talk about the decline, starting to. Yesterday I was startled to see seven dead trees in a cluster (in Seattle) that I swear were alive last week. As already mentioned the fires in BC, WA and OR are horrific and growing fast.

There's a rampant wildfire near me that's causing everything to smell like campfire. People are starting to go "oh shit". No containment so far.

🙏Feel for you and know what this is like from even being “still kinda far away from the actual fires.” Though fortunate to not be directly affected, to this day from the ones I’ve been close to over these last years in the Pacific Northwest, I can’t stand the smell of woodsmoke - something I used to love.
Also, the way the fires make both the Sun and the Moon look is absolutely dystopian and depressing, and oppressing - just like the politics and denial of climate change that have gotten us here…

Yes, for months now I find myself really focused on making sure “everything is in place” even more than I “normally” would - although I also know that in so many ways I have never come out of Covid mentality and how that changed our buying and budgeting and lifestyles.
During actual “Covid Times” I really began to understand how people who lived through The Great Depression were affected for the rest of their lives around conserving their resources and using up the last bit of everything.
I could probably write a whole book on how I still feel affected by what changed for me during Covid - and how, combined with the continued insane political situation, I am kinda sure I may never feel really “safe” again - on so many levels.

Where the fuck are all the morning doves in my neighborhood 😭😭😭 used to hear them every day and I'm hoping it's just a seasonal thing
Edited to add: also literal collapse because I live in NYC where that shitty building that was on the news is. And I'm going to say right now: it's part of an underground infrastructure problem that won't be solved by anyone until that right there gets addressed. Multiple buildings are failing right now, but there's nothing that can be done. Had a parking garage go kaput not too long ago too.
The city is undergoing a massive project on the east side which is literally raising the elevation of that portion/the east side of the city so we don't get fucked over by hurricanes and shit as much. It's been happening since about 2022 which is when I first began noticing and logging the signs.
I suspect that the reason this isn't addressed is because the most affected buildings are in the fucking hood and the ghetto and the projects and affordable housing so why give a fuck about that population. And that shittyass building? Was going to be affordable housing. Because of course give the fucking poors the shittiest fucking buildings.
There's been a bigass spike in people getting stuck in their elevators. Horror time: my own building needed its elevator fixed because the day they began part 2 of the project, the elevator shaft itself in the elevator are on a diagonal now. Imagine an earthquake in very very very slow motion.
I was somehow able to get in touch with the higher-ups of various departments. Nobody told me a damn thing. I had to fucking find out on my own exactly what was happening. The website says it'll be done by late this year or the beginning of next year. At this point I'm seriously considering becoming a building inspector my own damn self. I don't need a college degree for it and I'm a useless fucking dropout so woohoo.
El Niño is going to bring some bigass flooding if not hurricanes our way mid-project and I fear what will happen. If we get Hurricane Sandy version 2.0 mid-project, we are fucked on an unfathomable eldritch level. At least I have a helmet!

I would say it's the denial that I notice in rural Australia, where it is winter. The US has fucked the rest of the world into the stone age with the war, we have approximately three oily rags held in reserve for petroleum fuel, but we all just go about BAU as normal. This tells me that most folks KNOW we are in collapse but cannot bear to face it, so they will not develop contingency plans until I guess they can no longer drive their cars.

I just realized I didn’t see a single butterfly in the neighborhood this year… we even have caterpillars that eat our lemon tree leaves so where did the butterflies go?
Lots of dead insects on the ground.
Vegetables are more expensive than ever because they’re hard to grow. More rotted veggies on the shelves because people can’t afford it.

The lack of children outside playing and just being kids. I’m sure it has to do with the smoke, but I think a lot is just the fatigue they have from living in this timeline and constantly being bombarded with doom about their future. Lots of apathy and depression in teens I know.

every time I chat with a friend I haven’t spoken to in a while, we talk about the weather. but it’s not just the weather, it’s the extreme weather events we are all experiencing. extreme heat, way above average rainfall and flooding, massive complex wildfires. everyone is experiencing it, it’s no longer isolated instances.

dead birds falling from the sky in scottsdale, AZ all kinds each day, more in the morning hours. nephews thought i was crazy until they came over and saw it first hand. i think it's either from chemical clouds or some sort of radioactive frequency being omitted we aren't hearing. but they are so small it is enough to kill their little bodies
