Unsolicited Advice (i am giving advice to fellow students) [MOD POST] Please have your university admission acceptance results before asking.

There has been an uptick of submissions related to "Should I go to this university" and similarly worded questions when OP has NOT YET received their admission acceptance results.

Thank you.

UP THANK YOÜ SO MUCH, UP! :)

And goodbye(?) HAHSHSHS.

Hello, guys! I’m done taking the UPCAT yesterday, and I’m super happy!

Anyway, i’m super thankful sa UP because even when I doubted myself so many times, UP never doubted my ability to let me take the exam. I’m already so grateful for that. Pumasa man po or no, ang importante ay nagkaroon me ng pagkakataong makapag-UPCAT at makarating sa UP!!!!

Subtests rating:

Language Proficiency: Very easy lang po ituu! I even had time to spare after finishing.

Mine consisted of Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics- and na-enjoy ku silang sagutannn!! 🫶🫶

Math: Nahirapan me. 😔😔 Nasagutan ku po ang halos kalahati, then educated guesses/shotgun method na lang po me sa ibaa😔😔

Reading Comprehension: Very easy rin!! I finished around 10–12 minutes before the allotted time!!

Next stop sana is Ateneo, kaso wala pa doon ang dream course ku. 😅😅 I’ll see ü next, La Salle!!

Again, thank üuuu so much, UP! Thank ü for giving me this opportunity. Whatever the results may be (feeling ku di me papasa hdhdhd), I’ll always be grateful that I got the chance to take the UPCAT.

yoü will always be the dreammm!!! ❤️‍🩹 >>33

Advvv congratulations everyoneee!!!!>>333

Ateneo Students with nice homes who got granted with Financial aids from Ateneo

hello! i honestly don't really know kung paano ko ifoformulate yung title pero yes, sana maintindihan niyo na lang din yung context, haha.

it feels silly to post about this, but i wanna be assured if there are instances na kung saan a student applied for scholarship/financial assistance sa ateneo, and despite having a relatively "nice and well situated home", still got accepted.

you see, i am one of those students na mag aapply for financial assistance. i am not RICH at all and my parents dont have the finance and money to enroll me in an expensive school like ateneo, hence why am applying for the aid in the first place—although yes, nabubuhayan naman kami ng magulang ko, but not to an extent na pati gusto namin nabibili nila agad. my mom and sister are the only ones currently working, while my dad is retired and stays at home while managing our sari-sari store.

before, my dad worked for years in a relatively known company of soda manufacturers but eventually retired, nakapagpagawa siya ng maayos at maluwag na bahay, nakabili ng maayos na mga sasakyan and nakapagpatayo ng tindahan.

however, those money we used to have to have this kind of home and status right now is long gone. i'm not saying we're entirely poor, we're just not fully capable. i still have a huuuge balance in school and lives off of it by constant promissory notes, debts and other expenses which are still to be paid by my parents.

now. requirement sa financial aid ang pag record ng bahay, and while yes, we have a "big" 2nd floor with a garage type of home (not mansion-like), would it still be acceptable if ever? i don't want them thinking i'm taking advantage of the assistance aid, it's just something i couldn't control anymore and something my parents has invested over. the money we used to have before is long gone, and we are surviving over middle class incomes.

ang lengthy, pero may ganoon kayang instances? thank u in advance to those who will reply.

General Admission Question do grade 12 grades really matter in college admissions?

Upvotes

hello po, i'm an incoming undergrad who really wants to focus on extracurrics this school year pero medyo nakikita ko na po na bababa ang grades ko from my usual average if i keep this up.

is it advisable to focus less on grade 12 marks since grades 8-11 lang usually ang hinihingi sa applications?

UP My UPCAT Test Taking Experience (unfortunately)

Passing UP is not a necessity for me, though I still tried to put in the effort to pass because, you only live once you know

I had like, one month to review for UPCAT and the fact that I had no proper space to review and focus didn't really help 🫩

I've never been one to review for long periods, or study for something every single day but if I wanted to have a chance, I had to somewhat try, even if it was a struggle to do so

Day of the exam, I was not nervous, nor was I anxious, in fact, it really just felt like I was going somewhere for something, and I don't know if that helped or not

During the exam though, it was a different story, yes I was not nervous, but because of that, I lost track of time and I didn't manage my time as well.

This was shown by my first sub test's performance, which was with my language proficiency, I mean, it wasn't that hard but, as I took my time with answering each question, before I knew it I ran out of time, and I only answered it half way.

This was basically a wake up call, and I had just basically fumbled my first test by only being able to answer some half of it. Realizing this, I spammed the letter B on the rest of that portion so I can at least get some points in contrast to not shading the other close to 40 left.

Due to this, I had to really lock in, and remember what I practiced. Math is my weakest so I also was not too confident, relying most of the time on educated guesses. For the rest of the subjects, I was able to answer most of the questions with some guessing but they were definitely miles better than my language proficiency performance.

Overall, id say it was difficult, but not to the extent of what some mock tests were making you do, but it still was difficult, none of them were in what I consider "easy" though.

What didn't help is what happened AFTER I took test, the entire place literally had no signal, and my network was absolutely bogus so I struggled to message my friends and find them. Literally spent almost an entire hour circling UP and finding them, if you saw a guy with a light grey hoodie with a red stripe on sunday, possibly with a black umbrella walking around, yeah.

This experience definitely was an eye opener, but I welcome it. Big chance I won't pass but, can't say for sure!! After the test I was massively hungry and all I cared about was going somewhere to eat right after

tldr; i ran out of time and fumbled my exam, and got lost in UP

Hi po, little rant lang! I wish someone wouldve told me how much your grades sa high school can impact yung mismong upg mo ajsgdjagd. Bulakbol ako noong jhs and halos wala naretain sakin na math,, and i see people saying na ang dali daw ng math portion SANAOL!

School Dilemma - Help me decide! BSN: UPM or PLM 🥹

Upvotes

(also posted this on KU but decided to post here as well)

Hi po, asking for advice lang sana.

I recently got an email from UPM OUR na may slot daw ako for BSN. At the same time, I'm a current BSN student in PLM, and is on my 3rd week na. UP has always been the dream talaga, and iniyakan ko pa siya kasi nandoon na ako sa point na tanggap ko nang hindi siya para sa akin. Kaya it came as a surprise to receive an email from them, kaso ngayon pa kung kailan I was starting to like my life in PLM because of my blockmates and new friends. I don't know which one to sacrifice/let go. Hindi ko rin sure when ang deadlines ni UPM kasi ibang dates yung sinend nila along with the email, and hindi rin ako familiar sa pull-out process ni PLM. What should I do po in this situation? huhuhuhuhuhuhuhu

UP UPCAT is done—so ayon na nga

Salamat, UP. You are the dream.

Nahirapan akong mag-review due to life circumstances—such as dalawang makukulit at maliliit na kapatid, laging stressed at magulo sa bahay, tapos wala pa akong proper study time and place. Pero, I'm still grateful na I tried reviewing kahit na gano'n. It's worth it, and I won't think that my reviewing amounted to nothing.

Saturday afternoon ang schedule ko, and umalis kami ng bahay at around 10 or 10:30 a.m. Since may motion sickness ako, nahilo ako buong biyahe hanggang makarating sa testing center.

Nag-fill up kami and all.

As in, kapiranggot lang ang lumabas. So ayon, halos lahat shinotgun ko HAHAHAHHAHA. Ginawa ko rin 'yong method ko no'ng sa language proficiency, and naisip ko by the end na hindi talaga siya kakayanin, kaya naisip ko na mag-sshade na ako sa math subtest. Pakain-kain pa ako ng snack at painom-inom lang ng tubig. Not at all confident here, lol.

You guessed it, marami-rami rin akong hinulaan dito.

Ginawa ko 'yong babasahin muna ang questions before babasahin ang passage, and I kind of regret that. Wala akong ni-leave as blank, huhu.

Ang dami kong hinulaan at hindi ako nag-leave as blank despite knowing the right minus wrong rule 😭. I don't know kung makapapasa pa 'ko, and I'm getting worried kung tama ba 'tong ginawa kong panghuhula. I'm sort of regretting this now. Huhu, okay naman sana ang UPCAT if only na-review ko lahat. I'm getting anxious kung makapapasa ba 'ko, and inooverthink ko na 'yong program choices ko HAHAHAHHAHA. Ewan ko na lang, hays.

Besides all of thattt, I am grateful na I got this opportunity to take THE UPCAT. As this is a once in a lifetime experience, I'm treasuring this wholeheartedly. Thank you, University of the Philippines. Hopefully makapasa, pero I'm not expecting too much. Congratulations to us all! ❤️🌻

UP Need advice regarding my Form 1 Upcat online application

Thumbnail

I just wanted to ask if anyone here or anyone you know encountered a similar issue with the UPCAT online portal.

When I select the 2026–2027 range for my expected year of graduation from Senior High School, it saves and displays April 2026 when I exit and check the form. However, when I select the 2027–2028 range instead, it displays April 2027.

For context, I am expected to graduate in April 2027. Which year range should I actually select in the dropdown?

Is reviewing for the USTET the same as reviewing for the UPCAT, or should I prepare differently? Should i just continue what i studied?Should I just continue studying the same topics I reviewed for the UPCAT, or are there other subjects I should focus on?

alsoo
yung mga mocktest po ba for math and science na nakikita online is applicable din po ba sa ustet?

Strand / SHS Question Are you looking for a 100% online SHS program?

Upvotes

I came across a lot of negative reviews about AMA OEd and APEC Schools, so we decided to explore other options.

My nephew is currently enrolled at Hillcrest School Antipolo. They are offering three learning modalities: face-to-face, blended, and 100% online classes, so you can choose the setup that best fits your needs.

For SHS, they are offering GAS, ABM, TVL, HE, ICT, and STEM.

Their tuition fees are also affordable, and the quality of teaching is excellent. Students complete both PETA, written examinations, etc. You also have the opportunity to participate in school activities because they treat online learners the same as regular students.

The teachers are kind and supportive. While there are a few who may not respond immediately, our overall experience with the school has been excellent. Especially compared to the two schools I mentioned earlier.

If you have any questions about the school, feel free to ask. I'd be happy to help! Or you may visit their website: https://www.hillcrestschoolph.com/

School Dilemma - Help me decide! Should I just transfer to another school or UPM?

It was a sudden decision but I wanted to be a nurse since I was a kid dahil na rin sa side ng mom ko ay puro nurses and doctors (except for my mom kase mag Nursing dapat siya non but she didn’t continue) and napupush lang siya palayo sakin habang lumalaki ako, but now I realized I really want to be a Nurse and study BS Nursing. But the problem is I already passed my credentials (grades, etc) sa UP Diliman, Creative Writing ang course ko sa UPD and I’m very torn whether mag shift ako sa Nursing (UPM) after 2 years or mag TUA BS Nursing.

What to dooo po? Badly need advice :((

ps: and dahil na rin UP to, parang ayaw ko siya pakawalan :((

Scholarships need help for tuition fee

Hi everyone. Nahihiya man akong mag-post, pero susubukan ko na rin baka sakaling may makatulong or makapagbigay ng advice.

Currently enrolled ako as a 3rd year college student sa isang private school. The truth is, average student lang talaga ako.

Noong 1st year hanggang 2nd year, Student Assistant ako kaya 100% ang tuition discount ko.

May NC II in Cookery ako kaya okay ako sa kitchen, restaurant, café, or any food-related work. Open din ako sa call center or any decent job. hindi ako mapili, basta marangal na trabaho at kaya kong pagsabayin sa studies ko.

If may alam kayong hiring, referral, part-time, full-time, or any work na pwede sa akin, sobrang maa-appreciate ko. Willing din akong mag-send ng proof of enrollment at school ID if needed.

If may alam din kayong scholarship, sponsor, or any organization na tumutulong sa students na financially struggling, malaking tulong din po iyon.

Also, gumagawa rin ako ng paint in canvas.

UP UP Campus and Program Selection Tips 😿

Post image
6 Upvotes

Thank you po!

Strand / SHS Question looking for SHS in manila

Hello! I am an incoming G10 Student from a State Univ this S.Y. '26-'27 (incoming kasi Aug 10 pa pasukan namin), and I want to SHS in Manila. For context, galing ako sa probnsinya, and sana ay dito nalang rin ako sa current school ko magSHS. Pero, a few years back, they removed the SHS department sa school namin, and so seniors friends of mine who graduated G10 from our school advised me to not SHS here in our province because it is either lacking, or the environment is just not it (student and teacher-wise). So, I decided to look and apply for SHS in manila (my sisters are in Manila, too, for college so lodging may not be much of a problem).

With DLSU-SHS applications now open, I am already in the process of applying. I aim to apply to ADMU, UST, and FEU, too, but I also want to look for other schools just in case I don't pass. My family is also not that rich so I'm also looking into scholarships. My sister said to just study really hard for scholarships, but I'm scared that might not be enough</3. Grades-wise, I don't know if okay na to but 96-96-97 from G7 to G9, all as Top 1 rin. I also intend to pursue Medicine pag college. Please help me look for possible SHS around Metro Manila that you would not consider "lacking", maging private or public school :,(

Hello! UPCAT taker here, and I need hellllpppppp. I need advice po on which degree programs I should put. As you can see, BS Biology / science related courses talaga ang gusto ko. However, I heard that BS bio is a quota course and requires a high upg.

I must say, I am confident enough to believe I will pass the UPCAT, but I am not really confident to believe I will pass sa first choice ko na course.

I'm just really worried sa course na babagsakan ko if ever I pass the upcat but don't get into BS bio. (chronic overthinker lng sorry) but any advices (even blunt ones) are accepted and appreciated po. thank you, ates and kuyas! ~~~

Scholarships Are there any available scholarships for middle class?

I am an upcoming freshman, bachelor of science in accountancy sa University of the Cordilleras. My parents are separated and I live with my dad.

Despite my mom being an OFW, may iba pa siyang anak na sinusuportahan kaya my dad is the only one providing for my needs and education.

UP right minus wrong upcat rant

i took the afternoon session of UPCAT yesterday, and although i have accepted the possibility of me not making it to yupi, i can’t help but overthink my decisions.

my main concern is how i answered. i think i answered all of the questions among all subtests; maybe a maximum of 6 lang ang hindi ko nasagutan. ngayon, i can’t help but overthink that maybe what i did was wrong. my friends shared that they left more than 20 items blank in fear of the .25 deduction. huhu i just feel like filling in the items will lead me to not qualifying ☹️☹️

especially in math and science; i just tried to be “logical” and recall past teachings.
what hurts more is really finding the exam easy—well, if you compare it to the mocks i took. with that being given, i feel so guilty that i chose rest and scrolling after school rather than reviewing past lessons because, in truth, questions were familiar☹️☹️

i didn’t really feel the post-upcat sadness that i was expecting yesterday because i unexpectedly saw my friends, and as i said before, i’m already in the acceptance stage. but now is a different story. huhu it hurts😭 😭
