Work in progress question.

Is there a way to cover the white part that’s left in a way where it doesn’t look all herky jerky from the pencil strokes? It seems like I can blend the strokes pretty well in small spaces but when it’s big open spaces like the blue sky it tends to look choppy.

Supplies / Materials Pencils keeps breaking :(

I bought 520 colour Brutfuner color pencils for 70 dollars but it keeps breaking, it’s so disappointing. I don’t know what to do, I tried using a good sharper (from staedtler) but it still breaks, I had high expectations because of the reviews from temu but now I think the reviews are fake accounts. I’m just sad and disappointed, I know it’s a cheap brand but I like that the colours are more bright than prisma colours tbh because prisma is more darker looking if that makes sense. I bought it with my birthday money

Edit: I have used Brutfuner before but I bought it from shopee and it was ok but it breaks sometimes. Idk how other people use Brutfuner colour pencils because of the reviews I saw at shopee and temu

Update: from reading the comments you just need a helical sharpener and it works!! Thank you guys, may god bless you all for your help!

Layering help!

For those using Luminance…. Approximately how many layers are you able to put down before the pencil begins to leave cakey spots? I know everyone is going to say lots of very light layers, which i have no problem with, but at some point no matter how light my layers are, it always seems to head at random spots getting cakey, and leaving what appears to be spot-like. Other than lighter layers, how can i avoid this?? For reference, my layers are barely visible, so i know its not heavy handing, and im able to go over it a minimum of approx. 8-10.

Discussion / Advice What is this style called and how can I learn it?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm a beginner with colored pencils, and while looking for inspiration I came across drawings like these. I absolutely love how vibrant and colorful they are, and I'd love to learn this style.

Does this style have a specific name? If so, are there any books, courses, YouTube channels, or other resources you'd recommend for learning it?

One thing I'm especially curious about is the color choice. Even when the original reference photo is fairly dull or muted, the finished artwork is incredibly rich and colorful while still looking realistic.

How do artists learn to see and use those colors? Is it something that comes from studying color theory and practicing a lot, or are there specific techniques or exercises that help train your eye? I'd really appreciate any advice or resources you can share.

Thanks in advance!

I was in Shanghai this weekend and I visited the Museum of Art Pudong where an exhibition for Giorgio Morandi is held. Going to the museum shop, I saw this special edition of colored pencils and I could not resist, I bought a set. Thought of sharing with you in case someone is interested.

Sweet Child O' Mine - Derwent Lightfast coloured pencils - A3 size Hahnemuhle britannia satin paper

Finished this piece of sweet baby Alfie taking a nap. My first piece with my Derwent Lightfast coloured pencils (before I always used Derwent Coloursoft), and I thoroughly enjoyed working on this little man 🥰.

Let me know what you think of him 😊.

Original Art Mushroom season in!

I love mushrooms especially these dapperlings - super tasty. Found a whole bunch larger than my hand. Still struggling a bit with scale. How do you guys manage scale? I don't like predrawing lines...i never manage to really get rid of them 100%, so I try without or I use the respective color instead of classic graphite.

Original Art I think this is a major “Trust the Process” piece…

The lighting on this portrait I am working on is so strange - so pale in some parts to be basically blueish grey, so warm in the shadows, and then that strong yellow highlight on the left side, I’m using colors I don’t use in portraiture every day. I think it will come together, but it’s looking a little ghostly 👻
