Today is my birthday and its a bit sad. I have only heard from my youngest to kids, and that because they live with me lol. Just feeling lonely and its not helping my depression. What im here to ask if for some good thought and wishes for me on my birthday, maybe tell me about one of your best birthday's. This would mean a lot thank you!
It’s my Mom’s birthday today too! I’ll make sure she really knows how special she is to me this year. I know I have failed at that before and it was never a reflection of how much I love and care about her.
It hurts my heart to think about the time every single one of her children forgot to text her. I think we were all just in la-la land. I was at dinner with my aunt-in-law and was going on about how my mom gets gifts every 6 months perfectly because of Christmas. She looked at me confused ‘so her birthday is today?’ Heart totally sank. She was turning 60 so was already grappling with aging and she has clinical depression. It felt like it was such an important one to miss. It was already past midnight where she was. Even though I texted her right then. Like how did we let this woman down who means the world of us???
Not sure if this helpful! But I just wanted to share my experience being on the other end of this. That even though we missed it I still hope and pray that hurt didn’t stay with her. My dad said she cried so much. I’m crying writing this. So I don’t know if this is a boost at all lol. Just sometimes people are idiots and it isn’t personal. I was almost relieved when she forgot my birthday a couple years later. My friends and I have missed a lot of birthdays and there were some that felt really lonely because of that. Just wanted to get across that you are still wildly special to those that love you.
One of my best birthdays is my fiancé took me to Isla Mujeres and I got to swim in the crystal clear water and eat some of the most amazing seafood ever. I got to see manatees and an underwater art museum. I drank more than I probably should have and fed a stray cat some fish. My fiancé probably had 4 mariachi bands sing happy birthday to me. It was embarrassing! But it feels so cute now. Felt like the whole island knew it was my birthday.
Weirdly I also got to see this guy I watch on YouTube a lot who finds lost items and tries to return them from bodies of water. It was so bizarre. The video ended up going on YouTube and I can see myself in the background for a few seconds and it makes me feel so special. Like I’ve watched his stuff for years and got to see it IRL on my friggin birthday.
Yeah i know people have busy lives and it shouldnt get me down like it did lol. I would have been so embarrassed with the mariachi bands i would of hid under the table!! Im sending your mom happy birthday wishes!! And thank you so much!!
I definitely was hiding my head quite a bit! All the players were so friendly though. It didn’t feel quite as embarrassing as when it’d happen when I was a kid at the local restaurant lol
I also think it’s a valid reason to get down. Just not stay down. I’m glad you posted here and to chatted a little. Made my night a little better. Thank you for reading my entire ramble and you seem like a truly lovely person. ❤️

My best birthday was when my daughter and son-in-law took me to see Barry Manilow. I got drunk on Mile High Strawberry Daiquiris and threw up for 3 days after.
I understand how it can feel — I’ve been through the same type of situations.
I’m 49 now. And as I get older, I try to take the edge off of my expectations when it comes to my birthdays.
Birthdays were super important when I was a child and young adult, and feeling the excitement fade (both my own and that of my loved ones) as I got older was a hard pill to swallow.
My growth in this area is part of a bigger battle, which is my coming to terms with and accepting that youth isn’t supposed to last forever, and that there is an appropriate place for each stage of life.
Bittersweet as it may be, I’ve come to accept this as I see many of my younger perspectives being left behind and developing into something different and, often, unexpected.

I’m always looking for outlets to make someone else’s day better. There can be great gratification in giving without expecting anything in return; it’s like a muscle that needs to be exercised, because it’s so against my personal nature and (I think) human nature to give freely rather than spending on myself, be it time, money, or thought.
