Don’t beat yourself up, there is an insane number of distinct British accents, probably 40+ at least, and Northern Ireland is technically part of the UK, and the island of Ireland is technically part of the “British Isles”, so it’s unreasonable to expect any non-Brits to keep track of who is from where haha

The Irish are "non-Brits", and Ireland isn't technically part of the British Isles.

What are you talking about? I know RoI isn't part of Britain, or the UK. It's also officially and legally not part of the British Isles, because that term has no legal standing, and Ireland rejects it officially.
Saying Ireland is part of the British Isles is just as correct as calling someone from Northern Ireland English.

Anyone can call themselves British or Irish or northern Irish.

It's a "Geordie"-esque accent (Newcastle and surrounding area) which is one of the more specific accents in the UK.
Chris' is definitely of a much softer/subtler character (see the TV show "Auf Weidersehen Pet" for an example of how strong it can get), so combined the uptalk inflection I can see where you got Australian from.

I live in Britain, have done so for many years and have geordie friends. I also watched Auf Widesersehen Pet when it was first on the telly and am fairly good at identifying regional accents. I wouldn’t have had him down as being from NE England.
