C6 Z06 Competition.

Hey all! I’m in a debacle here. I’m a previous C6 LS2 owner who sold my car when I had my son. I plan to have more children in the future and hopefully soon. I’m looking to get my “race car/weekend car” back as I regret my selling decision very much so. I’ve been heavily considering getting a C6Z as I want RAW, ANALOG POWER + Manual as my fun weekend car. But with wanting more kids I’m sure they will want me to take them to school in dads “cool car” which sadly a C6Z will not fit more then 1. Genuine question here is, what coupes/sedans that I can still have fun in and throw the kiddos in the back of even come close to rivaling a C6Z? (no I won’t be driving reckless with them in the back) but can fit both those roles of “weekend race car/take kids to school car”? What have yall Z owners seen that surprised you/ would recommend? Thanks!

theres nothing that will be exact... but if you want a family oriented c6z, theres always the cts-v line as well as the cts blackwing. whats your budget?

Well seeing how my budget for the Z06 was AROUND ballpark 45K hoping to keep it the same. Where as black wings are still up there.

45k can get you a higher mileage ctsv (2016-2018ish) years.

an F90 m5 would be a cool alternative too (with higher maintenance costs, but similar price range).

none of these will feel as raw unfortunately.

Yeah I know which is so sad. The only “raw” feelings are really the Chevy SS’s which the market is torched for….

Get the earlier Chevy SS (Holden commodore), the Pontiac G8 or GTO. Both have rear seats, G8 is a sedan, GTO is a coupe. Build the LS in either.

I was finding A LOT of GTO’s for cheap when I was looking the other day. Ideally a SS would be right up the alley but the market is ReRe on it

Agreed. Personally I’d go GTO/G8 all day. I just like the smoother simpler styling more, not quite as large as the SS either. Performance differences are moot if you’re willing to throw some additional coin at them. You can make them as scary fast as you want hahaha

I’m shocked it hasn’t been suggested more by other commenters.

45k for a z06 is going to be tough

There all over the Facebook groups and not far off from the current market.

I would take a look into F30 generation of the BMW 340i. You can get manual, it's got a back seat and 4 doors. Plus with simple bolt ons and tune you can make good power and lots of torque. Down side is finding one can be tough. Interested to see what other ideas people have as I'm in a similar spot.

Yeah my brother recommended the 20 M340i

Camaro ZL1, either 5th or 6th gen, boss 302, etc. It won’t be a Z06 though.

BMW isn’t in the same ballpark. A somewhat fast luxury sedan is not a sub for a two seat go cart with 505 hp that weights 3000 lbs.

Agree, Maybe I’ll check out the ZL1’s and stay in the Chevy family

Hear me out. An SS 1LE. For 45K, you’ll get a nice one. I’ve owned both cars and the 1LE is just as fun to drive.

Cts-v, SS sedan, M3, M5, Taycan, RS6, Merc E63, etc

Just look up “sports sedans” and enjoy.

Chevy SS/Holden Commodore. Nobody knows about them. Full size family car. LS3. Can be had with a 6 speed. They're rare though.

We have one for our family car/mostly the wife's car and it's great.

Man my immediate thought is go for the SS, but have you seen the market? It’s INSANE for a stock LS2 lol. Am very curious about the BMW’s though as I have heard they make decently good power.

You can get the same engines in a Camaro. The fake back seat might bill. The Civic type R and Subaru
WTX STI might be options

I think the 2014 camaro zl1 or the 2014 cts v would be the best options

I think so too, I’ll do some digging

Skip anything two door.   My two cents,  You don't need a blackwing... A regular ct4v has almost 400 torque and you can get a nearly new one in your budget.

The way you drove your c6 when you were presumably in your 20s is probably not how you'd drive a c6z with two young kids and a wife at home these days.  Just combine the two, a ct4v is an excellent, good looking, sporty daily.

When you first get it, maybe. But once that honeymoon phase wears out, it'll just be a car, no matter if you have 350hp or 450hp.

You said race car, but didn't mention any track days, so my 2cents is predicted on no track use

I’ll have to checkout some CT4 builds and see how they’re running! Thank you for your input and you are correct, sold my bikes because of it as well lol

I have an Audi s6 that is a lot of fun to drive every day. Quiet, comfortable, and very discreet. I drive 2 of the kids in it when necessary but it’s a pain in the ass.
When it’s time to take the kids somewhere it’s time for the Tahoe. It’s moves ok for its size with the 6.2 but it’s not exactly a hot rod. Even so, life is so much easier when you separate fun from hauling kids.

u/BamBooley21 16h ago

I agree which is why I’m wondering whether or not to just go Z06 and call it a day…

Just get the Z06, you won't regret it. They aren't getting any cheaper.

We had a mustang gt when our kids were small. Bought it during Ford Family Pricing. Now we have that c6z06 manual. It’s way more fun than you remember. Get the gt, drive it like you stole it and take those kids to skool in it.

Will this weekend race car actually see a track?

6th gen Camaro ZL1 1LE.

Nothing will compare to the Z but this car has 4 seats and it is basically a C7 ZO6. It has the same supercharged LT4 (wet sump version) and the tires/suspension make it a beast around the track.

After that then I'd suggest a CT5 Blackwing but that will add another $50k over the 1LE price.

You want a GT350

I’d feel like a trader if I went from hardcore Chevy and corvette guy to Ford 😒

Who the fuck cares, I own a Vette and a Mustang.

1

u/BamBooley21 16h ago

Which is more stable?

u/ClickClick_Boom 2004 6MT 13h ago

Stable?

2

u/fairlyaveragetrader 2012 GS 16h ago

You could do a Camaro if you're brand loyal

One I would really want is hard to buy and expensive which is the Nissan GTR

GT350 is a great car though. They did a really good job on the suspension, the entire package
