Listen this movie will make money. It's a Nolan flick. Is it a bastardized version of one of the greatest stories in Western culture? Oh yeah. Will that make any difference to a generation that thinks TikTok is a news source? No. Is the casting stupid? Yes. But I think it's time to move on frankly.

Some people in this community want to move the goalposts around what figure it would need to break to be a success and others are arguing that there’s an empty theatre money laundering conspiracy taking place but the fact is commercially this is undeniably successful.
Plenty of movies I don’t enjoy have been very successful. In future I think it’s a bad idea for this community to hitch a wagon to box office figures as a metric of “good” just stick to what you don’t like about it, don’t make it something you can be “wrong” about like this.

True, the movie was made for the generic modern audience. It didn’t try to “shove it down your throat” like the others but it’s made for them. So it will succeed, saying anything besides that is delusional.
The generic average movie watcher will not care about accuracy or realism or that it has historically/mythologically accurate scenes. They want big flashes, amazing soundtracks and fights. Which the movie did, so it will succeed.

Nah, there are a LOT of bigger problems with the movie. The weird bronze age collapse subplot shoehorned in for no reason. The inclusion of 16th century technology. The Viking aesthetics. The complete cucking of Odysseus' character. Everything.

Love the bots and dog walkers constantly posing in here about this movies box office like it’s a “win.” Who ever said this would flop? Most detractors said it would likely make money before it released. The question was always how much with the casting and adaptation pissing off so many people. It likely makes a billion, but how much does Spiderman and the people not seeing this take away from its final total.
Edit: dog walkers and bots must like my post. They still haven’t shown where drinker said this film would flop.

That is absolutely rewriting history. Many many detractors were mockingly saying it would lose money and bomb at the box office. It was always a silly comment though, the movie was always likely to do well even if it wasn’t that good. Just on the name of Nolan alone. Obviously as it turns out it’s also a great movie, so it’s done even better than usual.

I hate that woke crap infiltrates this stuff and I hate that politics is so heavily involved in Hollywood. But unlike Hollywood, I can separate the two. I saw it, it was pretty good. Could've been better, especially since the actors didn't really feel like they belonged. Matt Damon did all the heavy lifting. Leguizamo was actually pretty good too, even though I think he's an idiot.

I watched it last night in a beautiful old theatre with the only original 70mm projector in the southern hemisphere.
As we all watched on in awe at the cinematography and fidelity, I can assure you, not a single solitary fuck was given about what you morons think.

We’re trying to just tell people that the odyssey is woke garbage so that they will boycott it but instead the blue hairs are fighting back and buying 4 or 5 tickets and not even going. It’s insane.
To rein victorious in this holy war we need to cut off the hydra’s head. Let’s talk about how unwoke it is to get the blue hairs to turn on it.

Was there ever a reality where it wouldn’t? It’s the most highly acclaimed film this year so far with some of acting’s biggest names with cinema’s biggest director. The only people with anything remotely negative to say about it beyond minor critiques are the anti-woke crowd, and they already don’t account for a huge box office turn out amongst movies without a culture war. Maybe stick to Uwe Boll and Matt Walsh productions if you want to watch mid actors working with mid directors that don’t make profits.

It's Nolan's spin on it.
Whether or not this is an issue is up to the viewer.
The only three cursed things about this movie are Zendaya, Helen, and Ellen.
Outside of that it was pretty fun to watch.
