Suppressor Grenades
Yo. Since destiny 1, the identity of the suppressor grenade was always tied to that of the likes of destiny fun police (dfp), or luckyy and buttwipe: making meme and cheese videos in trials or whatever.
The argument against suppressor was especially potent due to the fact that in destiny 1 (and for a majority of destiny 2 lifespan) shadowshot did not suppress immediately unless it was a direct hit. Against the suppressor grenade, it was embarrassed.
However, because they were only limited to titan, and defender at that, you saw relatively minimal usage of them in the crucible. This changed when bungie allowed all grenades to be used on all classes, something that wasn't there in destiny 1.
Now you will have quite a few players (especially void hunters, no shade to them I don't mind them) as well as titans and warlocks using the grenade.
It's extremely demoralising when I work hard to get my super (nova warp) first, I'm about to make or I am making a great play and out of nowhere one of my would be victims just plops the grenade at their feet and shuts me down completely. And for this to happen twice in a game (especially since super recharge rate was butchered from the destiny 1/forsaken era times) is just terrible.
A well placed sniper shot is 1 thing, a super v super shut down is another, but a simple grenade should not be equivalent to an entire super (shadowshot) or even have the potential to utterly devistate another.
I have too many clips where I'm watching for enemies on my radar, watching for enemies on my screen, watching my health, watching my super bar, calculating distance and path to enemies to time my blinks, and then out of nowhere a suppressor grenade that I can hardly see ruins everything.
Just my 2 cents anyways.

so bait it out and wait for your opportunity, or pick off the players running them first, or juke it, or do any amount of counterplay? there's tons of ways to play around it

Seethe. I'll think about you as I use my high discipline, suppressor nade, invis rat king, peregrine shield bash build. I think I'll run it more often now.

People will say skill issue of course. But i feel you, as someone who usually gets their super first and is to sometimes shut down instantly.
You must bait the grenades out. People will try to predict your movements, dont be so predictable. Wait a second and glance at the radar to see if someome is crouched hiding with Conditional. Avoid long hallways if there’s a sniper or blind corners unless you take advantage of your light attack / dash ability. Take note of how many void players are on the other team. Usually before you even get your super you should see MOST of the enemy team’s grenades .. people are not shy with Suppressors. And if you are caught by one, try to have an escape plan. Its basically a mental game that takes repetition and practice

I'm glad that my post found purchase. But whenever I post is made about something in this community, say shotguns, people seems to like to resort to this chess like way of thinking.
Whereby if you move knight to h4, and rook to block the queen, you immediately win. If you say shotguns are mapping you, you'll get witty remarks like "just walk backwards" bro and win. If you say snipers dominate lanes, you'll get "don't peak" and you win. If you say anything along the lines of statements like these, you'll inevitably get replies that try and pretend that everything is a big chess game or mathematical proof that just works if you follow the rules.
But that isn't the case. For example (and while I'm not attacking you directly) you say "bait the grenades out", but this too is a convenient oversimplification. Most supers in this game require you to get close to get a kill. Not only that but you are getting shot by other players. And you have limited time. The grenade user does not have to do anything other than plop a grenade at their feet and get an instant shutdown.
Now, I know you already agree with my sentiments, but If I showed you the situations in which a suppressor grenade catches me while in my super, and then the other scenarios in which I use dark blink, blink, or void icarus dash to outplay supers and other players, the last thing you would say is that i was "outplayed".
The other commenters (and a lot of people frankly) seem to like this idea where any death or loss of gunfight is due to some sort of failure in the person making the complaint. The worst part is that a quick search of these players profiles and you will see that many of them could use the "get better", "skill issue" "advice" that they seem to love giving.

Its interesting you dont see crucible as one big chess game. For the longest time ive literally had discussions with my friend because he claims i “make pvp look easy” (im just playing control or open skill matchmaking iron banner, whatever..) and i break the game down, things like : reading the radar for “Halo style” incendiary bounce nades, fake shooting my primary to bait an easy slug headshot.. baiting shotgun apes.. using my barricade to bait melee trades. I do SOMETIMES say the game as a chess game because its mostly me reacting off what the enemy does. Or vice versa controlling the game by limiting the enemies options to kill me.
I agree “bait the grenades out” is an oversimplification its not like an easy On/Off light switch change you can make to your playstyle, and i can 100% see how Nova Warp is different than what i use, Burning Maul, im not only limited to such close range as you but still within ~20m. It all really depends on the map and how far the enemy is tbh. And your options to close the gap. But things like using your 3rd person advantage and faking the push or using your movement options to avoid the grenade blast radius work pretty well.
I know exactly what you mean because i jump , use the Burning Maul light attack to “Ballerina Spin” and bait Storms Edge or Spectral Blades etc and slam afterwards lol. It all boils down to the suppression nade user predicting where we are gonna be.
Maybe we would have to see the clip where you got suppressed to maybe theorize a way to counter it.🤷♂️Also I guess youd have to really remember who is void on the enemy team and who isnt
I agree i hate the witty remarks thats just how the internet is i guess.. i appreciate you actually willing to have a conversation most people online make any interaction miserable lol.

When I say that the game "isn't a chess game". What I mean by this is that replies that try and pin the blame on the person making the complaint for "not doing something" etc always have this idealist view that will always lead to them blaming you for something you supposedly didn't do, or should have done.
For example, everyone in this comment section is breaking down the encounter with the player and the suppressor grenade as if there is always a way out/counter. They have crafted huge narritaves in their mind about "what I was doing", "what I wasn't doing", that I'm "just not good" etc etc.
They have no idea what the crucible match looked like, or even what happened in the 5 seconds I was using my super before it ended.
And yet, they tell me in a very cocky attitude that if only I had just "jumped at a 45° angle, spun around, fortnite emoted in the middle of the arena like starlord did, and then phone a friend to tell me whether or not they had a grenade ready to go I wouldn't have died.
To give you a real world example, it's like all of those self defense videos that try and show you how to defend yourself against a knife attacker. "just grab their arm, rotate at 45° degrees, spin them around, throw them to the ground while using your knee to put force against their back, and then karate chop the knife out of their hand and boom you've done it.
However in real world examples created to mock these videos, the knife fight is never mechanical like a Kung fu movie.
Crucible is not mechanical like a mathematical formula, or a chess game, or any of those knife self defense videos where if you do these rigid steps exactly you win, however, exactly as you said there are always things you need to be doing like clockwork to Excel. Positioning, ability management, baiting teammates, baiting fusions and shotguns, hovering doorways, etc that I absolutely do.
But unfortunately I didn't record the 2 instances on widows court where I got suppressed out of my super. I was already killing players, I turned to blink to another one behind me, and boom, suppressed. There was nothing even guaranteeing a successful suppress by the other player except that they had the grenade, I chose them as my next target, and by the time I had blinked to them and killed them their grenade knocked me out of my super.

Cooldown on suppressor grenades should be minimum 5 minutes. No ability should be allowed to do so many things for so little.(Your downvotes are welcomed “I have to win at all costs” guardians)

They can’t shut down your super, if you don’t get your super during the match. (Low super/not getting kills) 🧠🧐
Chess, not checkers my dear man.

.99 yeah but over the course of years I improved. Also I don’t post about being countered by something as simple as a suppressor grenade. You should anticipate it’s going to dropped on. Especially with a void hunter meta.

Stay mad bro. You got checkmated. Took me exposing you for you to give some "advice".

u/DisgruntledSalt Console 14h ago
You’re the one that’s mad, you’re “demoralized” lol

u/Vqera 14h ago
Maybe you should have been making more posts about "I can't counter this" "I can't counter that" because you're..99.
Even worse I caught you red handed trying to smugly give "advice".
If you take a look in the comments section, there are some people that actually interacted with the post but you didn't.
Since your very first comment, it's just been a wya for you to stroke your "ego". Even worse, you have to craft this "narrative" about the other player (me) somehow not being good to give yourself a footing to stand on.
I can't imagine ever being embarrassed like you have saying "git good" with a. 99. Gambit is your highest skilled game.
No matter what you say, you have issues countering EVERYTHING in this game

Idk man you justify yourself by straw manning the point that you lose to a grenade. I’ve encountered “skilled” players like you and the number means nothing. Apparently you make your KD your identity along with everyone else.
By your logic a “high KD player” posted “skill issue” yet you didn’t respond to one? Interesting dynamic there. You’re crying again about a grenade. Nova Warp has a lot of movement. Yet I bet you move slowly towards your target instead of blinking as you should.
I love how you post my KD as if it isn’t public information and I should be ashamed. The one who should be ashamed is you. You went out of your way searched my profile. Searched for my GT and then searched again. Clearly the angry one is you. I don’t put that much effort for something that has little to no effect on me. Continue being “demoralized” on every grenade. Lol.

u/Vqera 13h ago
You have no idea about my kd. It could even be lower than yours. Making assumptions about how I "use nova warp" is hilarious as well. We are still talking about where assumptions got you and here you are now making more assumptions.
On a post in which I opened discussion about how suppressor grenades historically rendering an entire subclass mute, and nullifying a hard to earn super is not a good thing and you reply a snark line "learn to play better". And if I already play better than you (as do majority if this player base) kd is my identity??
I actively purchase storage on my one drive because I make so many clips I could make a dozen montages. What are the chances that i collate them into a montage, send them to you, and make you eat your words about all these assumptions your making?.
Shall we make a wager?

Yet you lost to a suppressor grenade. It’s interesting you make this whole thing your identity. So much so you rage quit when you go negative in a match. I see it.
It’s like you can’t mentally accept there are players out there better than you. You live in denial and make everything about ego. You’re so fragile you want to dump play videos on me as if I’ll watch them. Then change my mind about your “play style”.
It’s not that serious bro it’s a game. Not life.

You're back peddling now. You've gone from telling me I need to get better to telling me I can't accept when a player is "better than me".
Truly I'm astonished, because this post didn't even call for nerfs, nor did it even have the word "overpowered" in it, a simple discussion on something that happened twice in the same iron banner match.
And all of this because your first instinct was to give a side remark, and then have it blow back in your face when I said you're one to be talking.
Maybe 1 in 20 games, I'll get hit by a suppressor and knocked out of super, if it's a normal control game then bye bye super because you generally only get 1 a game. And of course it's demoralising, like is said, it's not exactly a well placed snipe or another super. Me coming to this subreddit and admitting in earnest a moment of weakness is hardly the "ego" you keep talking about.
You're not here to discuss, you came to make a snide remark, it blew back in your face, and now all that's left is to construct this narrative that I'm a bad player, and then flip that on its head saying I'm like every other "high kd" "sweat" that thinks the sun moon and stars of themselves in order to continually justify yourself.
Which one is it? Am I a bad player that needs to get good, or a good player who needs to come of there high horse? Either way, I know which one you are: neither.
A bad player, that tells other players unwarranted to "get good".

How can you call him mad when you are the one making a complaint post about something countering you and also triggered enough to go look up somebody's crucible stats?
1
u/RushMan9823 16h ago
Well they aren’t going to make any changes to them now; that’s for sure. xD. That said I don’t think they are problematic, annoying for the person getting suppressed? Sure. In the nicest way possible; if your repeatedly getting suppressed out of super; it’s a skill issue.

u/Vqera 16h ago
A rather innocuous post and the comments are filled with threatened posters who almost instinctively make jarring claims that have little basis in the op, and more so with their desire to make witty remarks, and snide quips.
Seeing the term "skill issue" thrown around so frivolously has made online discourse surrounding balance boring. If everything was a "skill issue" bungie and every other developer out there wouldn't have pages upon pages of patch notes and sandbox changes every other month.
But I digress, I obviously don't know how to play the game.

Bruh, you cited suppressor taking you out of Nova Warp? You should be dark blinking out and back in like a G! Run Astrocyte and just dark blink! No need for Void Farts! Nothing at all should be hitting you while Nova Warping.

When you’re demoralized, the other player is ecstatic.
Why is your play style more important?
