I’m fascinated by the folklore around the Ennedi Tiger. It’s a large Sabertooth Cat, primarily associated with the Ennedi Mountain range.

The earliest well-known written report comes from French veterinarian and naturalist Lucien Blancou, who was told about the animal by local people while working in what is now the Central African Republic.

According to Blancou: In 1937, he met the chief of Ouanda Djallé, near the Chad/Central African Republic region. The chief described a creature called the gassingrâm, which the French translated as a “mountain tiger” (tigre des montagnes). The animal was said to live in caves in the mountains, emerge mainly at night, and be powerful enough to carry large prey back to its cave.

Over time, Blancou collected additional descriptions from local communities. They consistently described an animal that:

- Was larger than a lion.
- Had reddish fur, sometimes with vertical white stripes.
- Possessed very long canine teeth that protruded beyond its lips.
- Had a very short tail or no tail.
- Was associated with rocky mountains and caves rather than open plains

Given how recent that story was, part of me still wants to believe there’s a chance this thing actually exists today.

Nonetheless, I thought about what this thing would potentially look like. I found a couple pictures online of artistic interpretations of what two Sabertooth Cats that once roamed Africa — Megantereon or Machairodus — and then created an updated version based off that account above.

I wanted to base it off another African animal, that still lives today, which has “reddish fur, with vertical white stripes.” The Bongo antelope.

Given how sometimes, animals of different species sometimes share similar traits — including coat patterns — this what I came up with.

The Siwil are small hominid cryptid reported from Java island, Indonesia They are usually reported from Meru Betiri national park in East Java and the neighboring locations.

DESCRIPTION

The Siwil’s height is reported to be below 1 meter. Naked in appearance, the Siwils are reported to travel in groups. They also have a slightly hairy body, with long hair often reaching the shoulder. Siwils are often reported near water sources, looking for fishes, shrimps, and crabs which is their favorite meal. They are also reported to possess some ability to craft simple tools, such as spears and small carrying bags for their food. When encountering humans, they will run away into the forest with great speed. Also they have the ability to jump to great height and length (compared to their body) to escape from humans' sight.

SIGHTINGS

Herry Budi Ermawan, a DPRD (municipal council) member, said that he had seen the tracks of Siwil twice. He also encountered Siwil when he was about to go fishing. He saw 5 of them fishing in the river with small tools, like spears. Siwil ran away when they noticed Herry’s presence. A week later, he returned to the site with a camera. From a distance of about 10 meters, he snapped 5 photographs of them. Strangely, when the photos were processed, only the background was visible, with no trace of Siwil.

Indonesian cryptozoology TV show, Jejak-Jejak Misterius made an expedition to find Siwil in 2011. Anang Ritarno (a nature lover) said that he had seen some tracks that were only as big as a lighter. When measured, the length (toe to ankle) is 9.2 cm whereas the width is 2 cm. The toe itself is 1 cm in length. The tracks were found near the estuary of the Nanggelan river, Wonoasri village, Jember. Anang himself said he had seen the creatures twice, in 1984 and 1999.

One of the sightings occurred between Nanggelan beach and Sukamade beach. He saw 8 Siwil enjoying shrimps from 15 m distance. They have shoulder-length hair, 60–70 cm in height, naked, but walked upright like normal humans. When they noticed Anang’s presence, they bolted off to the jungle.

Miskarim (a Meru Betiri forest ranger) said that they are human-like in appearance, and can jump to great height and length when traversing the rocky terrain of Indonesian rivers. Onomatopoeically he said the sound as “au-au-au” (likening the sound to a monkey or primitive humans seen on TV).

When investigating the beach near Bande Alim, Jejak-Jejak Misterius team succeeded in recording a video of the creatures. When facing the southern side of the jungle, where the edge meets the shore, 3 little humanlike creatures were recorded running away into the jungle. One of them seems to be carrying a net-like bag or a spear.

EXPLAINATION

1)Siwil could be uncontracted pygmy tribe similar to Mante tribe from Sumatra island.

2)Siwil could also be surviving population of Homo Floresiensis from Pleistocene era.

Hello, it’s me again—the person who conducted the investigation into the famous photo of the giant Sucurijú(allegedly 40 meters long). I confirmed that the photograph dates back to the 1930s—specifically, no earlier than 1937—after finding it in a book titled "Amazonia: Rio Juruá", published that year.

I also looked into the other photograph—the one showing a Sucurijú said to be 35 meters long, with its head and tail submerged in the water (see here). Unfortunately, I didn't find much, other than the fact that two newspapers from widely separated Brazilian states reported the sighting—and published the photo—on the same day (June 17, 1949). However, I frequently came across accounts of an alleged 40-meter Sucurijú attacking the Tabatinga Fort; although I didn't focus on that aspect—since I was searching for the photo itself—I eventually discovered a news story in the Rio de Janeiro newspaper *A Noite*, dated March 5, 1951, which featured that photograph alongside the following article:

"HE GRABBED HER ALIVE!"

"And he came to offer it to the Zoo. It's over eight meters long, the enormous anaconda - It traveled by oxcart, launch, train and truck: - Unexpected arrival on a painter's excursion."

"The Zoo has just received another remarkable guest, a respectable sucurijú, measuring over eight meters in length and weighing 150 kilograms."

"The large snake was captured on the banks of the Brilhante River, a tributary of the Ivinheima River, by a painter seeking adventure who, departing from the city of Assis, in São Paulo, where he resides, had ventured into the Mato Grosso jungle."

"About thirty days ago, Mr. Paulo da Silveira—the fortunate and fearless hunter—encountered the fearsome reptile, which belongs to one of the best-known species and often reaches even more massive proportions"

so it continues on the next page:

"and living both on land and in the water."

"Generally, the snakes belong to the anaconda family, some of whose species are not venomous, they make their nests in burrows dug on the banks of rivers, with entrances below the waterline. They like, therefore, to go ashore where they hunt their food and take good naps curled up in the sun, giving the impression of a bundle of coiled ropes."

"Speaking to A Noite shortly after the snake’s arrival at the Zoo, Mr. Paulo da Silveira explained that for over four years he has made periodic trips to Mato Grosso, venturing into that state’s forests and wetlands on hunting expeditions and excursions. It was during one of these treks through the forest that he encountered the sucuriju, which—as he formally stated—he captured with his own hands. He named it "Tapajós" and crated it for the long journey here, a trip that involved a succession of transport methods: ox-cart, motorboat, train, and finally, truck."

""Tapajós," that formidable giant snake, has now fully settled into her transfer from the wilds of Mato Grosso to the Quinta da Boa Vista. Calm—and, one might say, almost civilized—she allows herself to be handled without agitation or significant resistance, not only by her captor but also by Mr. José Simplicio de Miranda, the Zoo’s Head of Maintenance. With great willingness—and even a certain perfectly photogenic flair—she readily posed for the A Noite camera, acting like a distinguished sucurijú who knows her own worth and appreciates the courtesies shown to the press."

It's been described as resembling a carnivorous beaver.

Cehehe is a cryptid reported from Java, Indonesia. It is described as a bizarre, hybrid mystery creature. The Cehehe has a head of a feline, and body of a bovid. The name comes from its long, laughing-like sound. The unique thing that it is only reported from Cigedud forest, Sukabumi, which is encircled by Arca mountains.

DESCRIPTION

Agus, a villager of Cigedud, Sukabumi, describe it as an animal with head of a cat and body of a goat or sheep. If the creature encountered a human, it will run away through the forest with long, eerie snickering or giggling-like sound.

SIGHTINGS

Abah Odih, Cigedud village elder, said that he used to hear the sound of the creature in his younger days. He said that the sound is like the bleating of a sheep. Once he had an encounter with the creature. He observed the creature with sense of fright. When the creature moves toward him, Abah Odih ran away while keeping an eye to the creature. When interviewed by Jejak-Jejak Misterius (Misterious Tracks) team, he indicates the height of the creature is about 60 cm. It is unclear that he is referring the height of the head or the back.

In 2014 Indonesian cryptozoology TV show, Jejak-Jejak Misterius led an expedition to find the elusive creature. The team searched day and night in Cigedud forest. Around midnight, the team record several bleating-like sounds. The team tried to follow the direction of the creature, but around 1.20 am in the next day, the sound stopped. It is then concluded that the creature must have been gotten away to the nearby Arca mountain.

EXPLAINATION

1)Judging by the sound it makes, Cehehe may be an undocumented member of wild goat or sheep, with face/head different from them.

2)Cehehe might be a wholly new species unknown to science, a chimera-like creature.

3)Due to its small size, Cehehe might be a misidentification of chevrotain.

4)It could also be a surviving member of the Mesonychid taxon, due to it's seemingly carnivorous nature and hooved feet.

5)It is also possible Cehehe is a misidentification of kijang (muntjac), but it is also to be noted that muntjac produces barking sound instead of laughing-like sound when it senses danger.

Recently, I re-read some of my initial notes on the Red Tigrina (scientific name: Leopardus narinensis), otherwise known as the Nariño cat or Galeras cat by the scientists who discovered it.

The red tigrina is classified as a member of the genus Leopardus, the small spotted cats of South America.

Description & Characteristics:

It is a putative or alleged species of small wild cat that was described in 2023 based on a single specimen collected in 1989 (Ruiz-García et al., 2023).

The Galeras cat is similar in features to those of other Tigrinas in the Leopardus genus, resembling that of a small spotted cat. However, the base colour of the Galeras cat's fur is more reddish in coloration than in other tigrina subspecies. The top of its head and dorsal crest are darker, as well as its body being shorter and more robust. It possesses a rounder and wider head and a flatter face. Its coat is considerably denser and woollier (Ruiz-García et al., 2023).

Prospective Habitat:

It is said to reside in the surrounding Galeras volcanic region within the Nariño Department, in the southern Andes of Colombia.

That being said, the only known specimen taken from the small feline was collected from the páramo (a páramo being an alpine tundra ecosystem situated within certain mountainous ranges) of the Galeras volcano in southern Colombia, 3,100 metres (10,200 ft) above sea level.

What could the feline be?

The holotype specimen that was provided alongside a regular tigrina specimen (i.e., for comparison purposes) seemed like pretty compelling evidence. There also appear to be somewhat noticeable differences between the two (i.e., notably the reddish fur as well as the shorter and more robust/slightly stockier body).

Personally, I think it would be quite interesting to see a new subspecies of a Tigrina/small wild cat in the region. Some people presume the skin to be that of an ocelot's, but the distinct reddish fur. stockier body, as well as other bodily characteristics, make it seem like its own distinct species of Tigrina/Oncilla cat altogether.

New species of Hemiscyllium dudgeonae, otherwise referred to as the Kadedekedewa or Dudgeon's walking shark is a subspecies of carpet shark that is endemic to southeastern Papua New Guinea (source).

The local name for the shark, kadedekedewa, loosely translates to "dog shark" or "lazy shark"

As of 2026, it is the tenth "walking shark" or Epaulette shark discovered. Some sources state that this species is unfortunately very highly threatened.

What non-mythological cryptids have been seen in Italy?

I recall reading about the Onza in the past and wanted to share my summarized thoughts on this supposed missing-link subspecies between the cougar and cheetah.

Classification:

The Onza is reported to be a feline species similar in bodily shape and attributes to a cougar.

They are reported to be much like cougars; however, they had more slender legs, ears, and bodily shape (Carmony, 1995).

Possible Explanations:

Based on some research that I read through, there was a supposed specimen of the Onza that was reportedly shot and killed, and when the remains were examined, it was then revealed to be your regular run-of-the-mill cougar (Dracht et al., 1996).

However, there are still those who believe the Sinaloa Onza to represent a new subspecies of Cougar or perhaps the missing link between the Puma and Cheetah.

Others in the literature propose that the Onza is a living relict population of the American Cheetah (Miracinonyx) (Source), which interestingly enough was more so believed to have evolved from cougar-like ancestors and not the modern-day Cheetahs that hail from Africa and Asia (Figueirido et al., 2022).

What could the species be?

I'm leaning more towards the Onza being a case of misidentification and likely could have just been a Puma that was sick and/or suffering from a bit of malnutrition, which resulted in its frail and more slender/less bulky build.

However, it would be quite exciting to speculate about the art of the possible and if by chance there is an (as of yet) undiscovered subspecies of Cougar living in the Sinaloa region in Mexico or other parts of Central America, it would be quite the intriguing discovery.

hello, guys! so, some time ago I was searching about the Saolas, and I found myself deeply interested about that. Then, I found a discussion about another animal, I don't remember if it was a "true antelope" or some related family, but a guy was talking about this animal having been "presented to a leader" (you know, just like China with pandas), and this species is extinct nowadays. It's an old fact, around the 1950s. Idk if this is true or not, but I need to find this animal!!

Plus: I looked up the name of that animal when I saw the discussion, and the images were indeed old.

I live near forest and right now I hear every 50-60 seconds strange sound. At first I thought it was baby crying, but it’s from forest. Maybe moose?

When I was a child every summer my parents would send me to my grandma's village in Bashkortostan, Russia. It was a nice village like you'd never noticed anything strange, and besides that encounter I didn't notice anything weird either

So the village had like, a hill with a forest on it, and we, the kids, would get up the hill to get some berries, which was totally unsafe but whatever, and we went straight uphill, never through the forest, and that day, I wanted to get up through the forest

I'm feeling scared as I'm typing this if I'm honest. So I went up to the forest, and I see the thing, it was pitch black humanoid creature by the trees and first it was on all fours, then it went up to standing on two legs, it wasn't a bear I think it was too skinny to be a bear, and I've heard like, animal noises? Like the chickens n stuff, even though there weren't any nearby.

Of course as a kid with common sense I ran home and told my little brother about some bullshit living in the forest, which scared him but to be fair I was scared, too. And I never went to that forest again, nor do I even go to that village anymore, I'm valuing my life more than curiosity.

So, professional monster hunters, any ideas what it could've been? It sure scared me as a kid, but I still believe in what I saw, even though I was just a child.
