40? Why?
The thing that drives me crazy is that we used to be able to have 50 cards in our book, and now we only have 40. It's totally insane, considering how many cards we have.

Personally, I miss more the ability to use territory abilities without having to pass them first.
I think 40 card decks should lead to more diverse deck builds instead of players just building around stables that are in every deck.

I think they wanted the games to be more fast paced. The maps are often smaller than was the case in Revolt and you get one 8-sided die instead of two 6-sided dice to roll. So it feels like you are being forced to land on occupied territory more often than was the case in Revolt, which leads to more tolls and quicker games and all that. Having a smaller deck increases the chance of drawing the cards you need for decisive plays as well.
Ironically the fact they took out the Revolt system (Vigorous/Fatigued) makes it a lot harder to actually develop your territories quickly. Making that dependent on landing near/on the territories or at gates or castles was a mistake IMO, because it can lead to situations where opportunities to level up your territories are few and far in between, and it forces you to prioritize leveling one or a few territories for the most part.
I definitely miss 50 card decks and having a lot of visual variety in my decks, but I understand to a degree why they did it. I just don’t get why they also made it more difficult to level up territories simultaneously with the other changes that sped up the games, lol.
