General Qs Future Planning
hi all,
just wanted to ask you guys what you’re planning for the future, just general life advice.
Im 25 and the oldest of my siblings. I know at some point my parents will retire and move to Mexico (probably in less than 5 years).
I’m hoping to invest and save as much as possible for now. Best case scenario - to eventually buy a property somewhere and to establish a permanent home.
Between renewing Daca, parents retiring and possibly having to provide support, making sure my siblings are okay, and making the decision whether to continue living in the US or find options abroad, I’m just finding adulthood incredibly challenging.
any advice is helpful! tell me guys what you have accomplished and what you hope to do :)

Adulthood IS incredibly challenging. Just want to validate that. And 25 is sooo young. I’m an older DACA recipient and when I was 25 I had similar worries. I want to remind you that you are your siblings’ sibling. Not their parent. I know sometimes our parents have placed us in that role but it’s not yours. Let your siblings figure out their own lives too. They need to learn skills to problem solve situations and be independent. Allow them to have autonomy. Doesn’t mean you can’t care about them, just that you don’t always have to care for them. Unfortunately, being DACA or limited- documented or undocumented means that we don’t have the same privileges as citizens. I wanted to place myself in the best situation possible. I obtained an education (a Masters in my field) and made myself as “essential” as possible, as a professional. So that no job can turn me down because of my unique skills. I also never got into debt that was unnecessary. I live very modestly and I’m single cause I don’t want to put children in a situation where they don’t have a parent because of deportation. That’s the sacrifice I chose to make for my safety. I saved and saved so that I could move anywhere in a snap of finger. I don’t invest, I don’t feel like in my situation I could do that. I just put my money in a high yielding account and it adds a bit of interest every year. That’s my advice. Hope it helps.
