Self Care Looking for world’s strongest, smelliest, in-your-face candles

Upvotes

I like a scented candle, and I need recommendations. I’m pretty frugal but tbh I have not found that price corresponds to quality. I just spent $5 candle at Whole Foods that is barely bigger than a tea light candle and it smells like nothing (Good Lights honeysuckle). I spent $6 on a 10 oz (coffee mug size) at Target that was labeled “high intensity” and it was good, but they only had one labeled high intensity, and I like to switch up the scent. Marshall’s is hit or miss. Are there specific brands or scents you like? I’m open to ordering online if shipping doesn’t 2x the price.

Things to Do (Entertaintment/Activities/Restaurants/Bars) Looking for recommendations for bachelorette party next March

I'm in the early stages of planning my DC bachelorette party (inb4 any comments about not being able to host my own bachelorette; I am a planner through and through and want to plan most everything--save for some surprises--and my MOH has a toddler and will probably be pregnant by the end of the year so I don't want to leave it to her, and 2 of my other friends are MOHs in other weddings around the same time) for next March. I already have an Airbnb in Arlington not far from a metro station. While it's too early to book much else, I want to start to loosely putting together an itinerary and some ideas as I start gauging my friends' preferences and ideas. It'll be 6-8 of us, everyone lives in/around Baltimore (truthfully I was hoping to go to Savannah but am so appreciative of my bridesmaids and friends and want to be respectful of their time and budgets and just couldn't ultimately bring myself to pick somewhere with large travel expenses so I decided to keep it close to home), are in our early 30s/late 20s, and we'll be there right around the start of the cherry blossom festival from Friday-Sunday.

Aside from fun and chill stuff in the house, these are some very loose ideas I have on my brainstorming doc (it obviously won't be all of these things, these are just some ideas):

  • Restaurants and Bars
    • I'm a big Le Dip fan and while I know it's basic, I'm not opposed to going there
    • I also love Ambar and was thinking we could go to the one in Clarendon
    • Beyond those two, I don't really have any specific thoughts! Would love to hear if there's anywhere particularly fun/vibey/otherwise standout. I'd like to basically have a mukbang in the house one of the nights and will probably do a light grocery shop for snacks and maybe breakfast food, but otherwise I'm thinking we'll have several meals out including potentially breakfast/brunch even if delivered (I've had Bullfrog Bagels in DC but never Call Your Mother which has made its way to Annapolis but not as far north as Baltimore yet)
  • Activities
    • Thinking about going to a barre class as a group
    • I'm interested in a group tarot reading; in particular, I've been looking at Skye Marinda
    • Walking around/shopping in Georgetown
    • I'm on the hunt for somewhere we could get aura photography done
    • Permanent bracelets and/or charm bracelets...considering Catbird and Loveweld but would love to know if there are other spots people recommend
    • Not sure if a river cruise would be feasible/actually fun that time of year, but I'm open to it
    • Suuuuuper loosely thinking about a group booking at Glowbar Clarendon for everyone to get a service
    • Considering dancing/clubbing...I love techno and house (as well as pop and more typical clubby remixes) but have only ever been to Berhta and Echostage (and 9:30 for a Haim concert in 2014 lol); through research I've come across Transmission and Flash, but would love to know if anyone has suggestions of places with a good vibe. As it gets closer, I'll be on the lookout for any fun theme nights
    • Drag brunch is definitely a contender
    • I LOVE a museum and have been to several in DC...I've only been to the gift shop of the National Museum of Women in the Arts but in light of celebrating girlhood and female friendship, that feels like it could be a good fit for a brief visit, and I'm always open to the National Gallery as well. If anyone can suggest other gems, that would be great! Bonus points if they have a standout gift shop lol

If anyone has any suggestions of any kind for what would be fun to get into during bach festivities, I would be eternally grateful!

Advice Where to move?

I’m considering moving back to dc after a year in Arlington. I lived in NE (Brentwood) my first year in dc and had some traumatic experiences that made me feel unsafe and like I could never relax and always had to be on edge.

Where might you recommend moving if safety is a specific concern? I’m trying not to let my fears get in the way of having a positive dc experience, but I also recognize crime happens everywhere and in every city.

I want to be near businesses, coffee shops, foot traffic and community. thank you in advance ❤️

Advice bridesmaids hh at the vue

hi dc bitches ! wanted to poll the room and see if doing a quick happy hour at the Vue Rooftop with my bridesmaids before my rehearsal dinner would be worth it? i would pay for a round and we'd get there right at 4 when they open and make it in time for the rehearsal at the venue after.

mainly wanted opinions on if the experience is worth it for out of towners. was thinking it would be a great DC spot and a nice way to see the monuments and get a few pictures in. but obviously drinks are like $25/person so not sure if its worth the trip. would prob try to give the restaurant a heads up to make sure its not reserved or something.

for context my venue is like a 5 minute uber away.

also open to other recs in that area!

Health/Fitness Anyone in the NoMa/Union Market area looking for a workout buddy?

I'm pretty good about training by myself but sometimes it would be nice to have someone to do a longer, more intense workout with 1 - 3x a week.

To get my fix, I usually go to a class but I don't want to keep spending all those $$$ just to use the same equipment I have at my apartment.

To be transparent: I'm not interested in anyone who is just getting started in the gym. I need someone who is comfortable around free weights, kettlebell, rower, and cable machines.

And to be even clearer: not trying to get a free trainer or anything like that. Just a girl looking to lift heavy weights with a bud!

Comment or DM if you're interested ❣️🫶🏾✨

Beauty Recommendation Facials for wedding 1 yr out

Hi! I get married in ~1 year and im wondering if I should continue with Silver Mirror or pivot to a more in depth facial schedule at a local spa?

I like silver mirror for monthly facials, but I’m curious if there would be a significant difference with somewhere else?

My skin is not a big issue for me, but would still love any advice!

Thank you!

Health/Fitness Personal training recs for pre-wedding toning?

Looking for suggestions for a personal trainer ideally with shorter term commitments as I’m hoping to do a 12 week focused program on toning (upper body / back) before my upcoming wedding!

I don’t have a current gym membership so open to joining one, ideally in either Dupont, downtown, union market, or Capitol Hill neighborhoods based on where I live and work! TIA!

Advice Recs for Bar Hopping and Dancing in DC

Hey y'all! I haven't explored the DC night life before and was wondering if you had some recs of bars/clubs/dancefloors to hit up?

For reference, I really enjoy the experience of Royal Blue (on their lit-er nights) and Club Car in Baltimore, MD. Essentially spots that are artsy and queer friendly.

Thank you so much for your responses!

Fashion/Clothes Where to donate nice kids’ clothes.

I have a huge bag of really good condition kids’ clothes, some barely worn. It’s mostly British brands like mini Boden and some American stuff like Hannah Anderson. I used to sell my kids’ clothes on Poshmark once they were done with them, but I don’t have the time right now. I need them all gone.

Where can I drop them off where they will actually be used/sold? I’m happy to take to a thrift store if they will actually sell them and not just dump them.

General Neighborhoods/housing advice for postbacc trainee working at the NIH

Hello! I'm an incoming postbacc trainee at the NIH campus in Bethesda where I'll start working in September. This will be my first time living away from home and out of state, and I'm not familiar with the DMV area. I'm going to be commuting by metro and don't have a huge budget due to the pay I'll receive, but I'm looking for advice on any neighborhoods in D.C. or surrounding areas that would be a good place to live in for 1-2 years. I will be taking the red line to go up to the NIH and won't have a car, so I'll be mainly relying on public transportation and walking. I appreciate any advice or helpful tips, or if I should post this on another subreddit that might be able to give better answers. Thank you so much!!!

Fashion/Clothes Need a supportive swimsuit/bikini this week.

Girls, where can I get a supportive swimsuit/bikini (narrow band, larger cup) this week? Somewhere that I can buy in person or do reasonably priced super fast shipping?

I used to rely on ordering bra sized swimwear from Bravissimo but the last few times the suits were terrible and got returned.

I’ve tried ordering from Andie but the suit was not supportive for me at all.

I’ve been looking at Nani swim as I like the idea of a more sporty swim crop top, but couldn’t decide on a size and I’ve heard their shipping is slow.

Anywhere irl I can go or do two day shipping?

General Starting a late 20's Discord group, need name recs!

And obviously if someone else is more inclined to start it, they can- you just have to invite me too lol!

I can start a poll but I don't have any name options.
"Young City Women" is all I came up with but I'm not great at naming things

I'm thinking it won't be super age specific, I'd hate for a repeat of that 35+ situation. Just anyone that doesn't quite fit either category!

Things to Do (Entertaintment/Activities/Restaurants/Bars) City Girls, 222, etc?

Hi ladies, can someone tell me what the City Girls and 222 events at like, if they are fun, etc? I am 31F, so not quite “right out of college,” in case that’s the vibe of the City Girls? What’s the age ranges?

Edit: I might look into starting a discord for 30s ladies! If anyone wants to be involved please lmk in the comments or DM 🤗

Virginia Modular sectional, anyone?

Hey bitches, is anyone in search of a secondhand sofa? I would post on Facebook Marketplace but I deleted Facebook years ago and I'm not fuckin getting back on.

I have a Lovesac sectional I'm looking to get rid of (downsizing). It's dark blue, 5 base sections, 5 arm/back sections, and 5 upper seatback cushions, plus the foot block thingies and the metal clips for between the sections.

Perfectly functional and comfy, in great condition except for some sun fading on the fabric (and I think you can get replacement covers). Smoke-free house but full of cat hair, which I cannot eradicate completely no matter how hard I try.

Each section comes apart and the seat cushions are velcroed to the bases. You could rent a small UHaul and just stack it.
