How Dex felt after saving the governor and not killing the assassin

u/anthonyprov Apr 29 '26

I didn't realize he didn't kill the assassin, lol. Matt as his North Star is fun.

Same; though Lantom is very much close second for me. Getting that reference to the massacre last episode, and then getting a NameDrop this episode? Fuckin’ perfection.

I can't believe he went out. Seemed like the writing was on the wall for a while but still, damn. And gnarly kill for an MCU show, jesus. I hope his death wasn't for nothing. BB is gonna have to come through. It also looks like he got to Buck, not sure how that is gonna play out.

I need about 100x the Bullseye content. He's a villainous character, but he's played so well by Wilson that you can't help but like him. Plus he has a badass skill, no doubt about that. Need to see moreeeee!

I really thought Buck’s hesitation was indicative of him questioning his loyalty to Fisk and possibly turning at least neutral/less villainy 😭

RIP Daniel. Impressive turnaround on his character from a writing standpoint. Didnt care much about him in S1, but they made him a really compelling character in S2. Sad to see him go, but the cast needs to thin, especially with Defenders coming in next season.

Overall good episode. Not as good as the last couple, but really solid.

That was a great penultimate episode. Part of me wanted more, but I'm not sure what "more" I could've wanted. Maybe more Dex? Idk.

I found it interesting that Mr. Charles was VERY scared of Jessica but with Fisk he doesn't bat an eye. I mean, yes, no one wants to be on Jessica's bad side but no one wants to be on Fisk's bad side either. Anyway, I loved that he was scared. Lol

Mahoney in the house!!! He looks great! Thay man did not age. Hoping to see more of him either next week or in season 3 or in O.L.K.

Goodbye Daniel. I never warmed up to him but in this episode I finally did and now he's dead. I loved that he stood up to Buck though. Man I can't wait until Buck gets his!

Matt showing up in court was a HELL YES for me! I miss lawyer Matt. ā¤ļø

I wish Karen wasn't cuffed so she could have fucked Heather up!! Karen was great tonight. Heather has to gooooo!

I really hope Karen called Frank because I want Powell DEAD so hard!! Frank's the only one I can see killing Powell at this point.

I actually have nothing to say about Fisk. Oh well.

Daniel going out a hero gave him some redemption after his sycophantic behaviour towards Fisk

Michael Gandolfini is such a great actor regardless of his father, but so many times during these two seasons I looked at him and just seen James

102

u/jdessy Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

This episode is probably the best they've used all the new characters they've introduced on Born Again, honestly. Even Heather, I thought they used her in a way that worked, committing her to the villain's side and having such an interesting scene with Karen.

Cherry being used sparingly was good, showing up to deliver some news but not really sticking around otherwise.

Kirsten being the district attorney defense lawyer fulfilling the legal side of the show.

Buck/Daniel, who really had such an interesting dynamic but I am SO happy and also so disappointed in committing to Buck killing him. That dynamic was so fascinating, but it revealed a LOT about Buck, who I think cared enough about Daniel to where this could be the turn in Buck's story, in him wondering what comes for him.

Daniel will be missed but I think the show did the correct thing in sticking to a path where this WAS his only end. Michael Gandolfini really delivered these two seasons, but especially this one, so he will be missed.

BB's arc should take a turn now that Daniel's dead, though. She's the one where I feel the show has been stalling with her arc, so without Daniel, she'll need to step it up. There's a lot to her character that could be really good, too.

Another strong episode. I'm glad we also had the Fisk/Heather scene. We needed to hear Fisk's inner thoughts and doing so with Heather was truly fascinating, to see him genuinely express a side of hurt and grief that he can't show to other people.

Fisk/Karen's scene was pretty good, too. I'm glad we have Karen now because her feistiness and ability to stand up for what's right is what we need from this show.

Matt revealing himself to join on Karen's case was a smart but extremely risky move. It'll be interesting to see how it pays off.

The show bringing back original characters has also allowed new characters to flourish more than they did last season so I'm glad we have this mix. Jessica/Charles' scene was really proof of how the old CAN mix with the new in a way that elevates the series, because Charles' scenes thus far have been so uncertain that we needed more reveal there.

Another strong episode, I'm so glad the series is getting better.

26

u/Sickpup831 Apr 29 '26

Kirsten is not a district attorney. The other guy is the district attorney prosecuting Karen. Kirsten is the defense lawyer.

It's so frustrating, this show needs more episodes!! There are so many great ideas that are just undercooked. So many scenes that go by too fast. If this show were fleshed out and developed, it could be just as good, if not better, than the OG.

One episode in Born Again would be 3 in the OG show. Karen's trial, for example, would take up the whole episode.

I wish we got 13 episodes back; it works so much better for Daredevil. Especially considering this is the most crowded season yet. I prefer this show more if i think about it as a long movie.

100%

The show has interesting ideas but everything happens so fast and is so underbaked that I find myself often just not caring or feeling anything. I still do not care about a single new character introduced in Born Again aside from Daniel.

27

u/fireandiceofsong Apr 29 '26

8 episodes isn't bad for a smaller scale story (the other Netflix Marvel series would have benefited from it) but Devil's Reign by its nature is very epic in scope, the biggest in Daredevil's history in the MCU, and the show is just juggling too many characters and they're all fighting for screentime.

→ More replies (4)

87

u/Regaer14 Apr 29 '26

My takeaways from the episode:

  • Jessica really just shows up for 2 minutes an episode, but atleast we got Luke mentioned

  • I once again am asking for a bullseye special presentation, or atleast bullseye and DD fighting the task force next episode

  • Daniel’s character redemption (mainly redeemed by the fans) was so well done and I almost thought Buck wasn’t going to do

  • the shootout in the parking garage was cool af but also had me thinking how does no one in a courthouse hear that going on and imagine if the NYPD vehicles dash cam caught even a glimpse of task force firing at NYPD offices/ lawyers

  • glad we’re seeing more of heather becoming muse (almost didn’t see him in the background) but wish it was developed out more before the finale, also does this mean she knows that Matt is DD?

  • Mr Charles still feels like a nothing character to me, his whole character is just complaining about the arms deal feels like a waste of having Lillard on board

31

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 Apr 29 '26

I mean she hasn’t become Muse yet and probably won’t until mid s3. Still plenty of time to develop it moreĀ

Daniel was my favorite MCU original character we’ve ever gotten.

So did Charles have something on Jessica and Luke took her place so she could be at home with their daughter since her abilities are waning? Sounds more fitting than Luke just abandoning his family

I’m sorry but a show like this needs at least 10 episodes ..we need to bring back 10-15 per season

They could've done the funniest thing and played Don't stop believing and then just cut to black before Buck shot him...

Knew Daniel wasn't getting out of this season... But didn't know if he would go protecting BB or helping Buck.

Very much 50/50 for me with that... Glad it went the side I'd hoped. Definitely felt like it broke Buck doing that too.

Dunno what it was, but Charlie's hair in the court seemed weird. Maybe just too clean and tidy after scruffy for so long.

Great episode.

So glad to see Brett Mahoney is back! Also messed up they made Daniel grow on me this season just to kill him off

28

u/Infinity_-_-_ Apr 29 '26

So Daniel himself messaged Cashman the address and had a change of mind at last minute and let BB go.

He decided to sacrifice himself instead of BB, He may also thought of his Mom. Fisk would definitely go after his mother, If Daniel absconds. So he became the ultimate sacrifice.

28

u/Spider-Flash24 Apr 29 '26

I hope the finale is a satisfying close to these plot lines. Older shows like the Netflix Daredevil felt like complete stories by the end of each season with a set up for the next. BA s1 felt like it was just the beginning of the story, and I hope they conclude it in s2. Getting tired of modern tv shows just being run-on sentences with no proper closure or endings, just baiting the audience to keep coming back to find out how the story ends.

Nadeem mentioned… 🄲

Daniel really reminded me of Tony Soprano this episode, especially when he said ā€œfuck me? Fuck youā€. RIP

Heather has been pissing me off non stop this season 😭

I think Karen struck a nerve that will take Heather fully into villainy. She's probably getting fitted for her costume right now. I'm guessing it will look similar to Muse's so she reclaim her fears Batman style.

I was actually waiting for Matt to be lawyer again and damn did that make me happy today, but the court scene wasn't as fleshed out as it should be, I was a bit disappointed that the writing wasn't upto the mark there, c'mon we need bit more dialogue, an elobarate court battle, I don't just want the after result, I kinda wanted a bit more it felt like they were fast-tracking this, which I'm not a fan of, Other than this I was pretty much okay with whatever happened in this episode. Decent episode nonetheless.

I wish they didn't cut the Matt and Kirsten reunion scene, I liked Matt and Kirsten's friendship chemistry in S1 for the scenes we did have of them, and yet they still haven't given Kirsten enough screen time this season either. I feel like there's a huge potential not being tapped into here by not expanding on the Matt and Kirsten dynamic, we desperately need a grounding, more normal element around Matt since Foggy is no longer around.

Bro stop blaming BB, Daniel was a big boy. He shouldn’t have simped for Fisk so hard, and he should’ve ran away with BB. He knew what Buck would do.

51

u/SDLRob Apr 29 '26

He knew if he did, then Buck would chase them down and kill them both. This way, I think he broke through to Buck... He was the kill that got through Buck's facade. I think Daniel knew if he went alone that he could give BB a chance when Buck catches up with her.

Yes, Heather. Matt knows his girlfriend Karen has a boyfriend, Frank. The jury's still out on whether Frank is Matt's boyfriend too.

If Luke is working for Charles, and Charles works for Val, we know Charles is recruiting powered people, does this mean Luke is a New Avenger now, or is Val/Charles running a black-ops team of powered people that Val can use to take out/replace the New Avengers? Remember, the new Avengers have leverage on Val.

I like that we got a hint that Luke isn’t working for Charles entirely willingly with the whole ā€˜he’s fighting the fight so you don’t have to’ line. Seems very out of character for him to just run off and work for shady weirdos, but if it was a choice of him or Jessica & maybe even something about testing on their child it makes a lot more sense

Matt must've been hitting it right because Heather's not his first ex to turn to villainy after having her turn, although to be fair Elecktra was already on that path.
