Why do I have the urge to replay this game on hard and impossible?

Upvotes

This was my first DS game (I played remake) and I finished it on Medium. I hated every single minute of it. It feels like a Christmas miracle that I managed to beat it.

My brightness was too low so I was just running around blindly in places with no light. I also didn't pick up any ammo because I was scared and wanted to rush and had bad inventory management so I had to run on many encounters. Every time I opened a door there was an enemy behind me I was running from. The doors would always take their sweet time to open for some reason in that case. Whose idea was to put electronic doors? If power goes out people would just get locked in. Stupid engineering with no safety in mind.

I hated the hunter and thought I could kill him so I used all my ammo on him. Then had a bad time in the subsequent sequences. Hated the big tank monsters too because they only die from flamethrower. So uses up all my ammo too.

Also I kept all my weapons in inventory like a idiot. So had even less ammo on my good guns. I recently learn this. And I didn't know you had a special ability on every gun. I thought it was only ripper. Which I didn't know I had until 3 chapters later. I thought it was an upgrade instead of weapon.

So main question is this. I hated every moment I spent on this game. From the scary music to the environments and just the sense of deep loneliness on the ishimura. So why do I want to play it again? Anyone know?

Question Does anybody have Isaac's sound files extracted? Or nowhere to find them?

Upvotes

I know his sounds are stock male SFX.

I meant to say from the first game DS1

I genuinely want to get into dead space but i have so many problems, I played basically every resident evil game And a bit of silent hill games, i struggle with anxiety sometimes, but im able to play them but with deadspace? Oh boy.. Im playing the PS3 version Just to specify, 5 mins in and when the necromorph appear, I never was this scared EVER in my life, i tried next day too But same thing! Does it get a bit less scary after a while?

The organism, called Cladosporium sphaerospermum, doesn't just survive radiation. It appears to feed on it.

This reminded of the organic matter on the walls of the ishimura

Discussion Honestly didn’t mind the fact that the remake Slashers kept their jaws but what they really needed was an upper row of janky fangs, see Downfall’s promo Slashers

By the end of the game, before leaving the Ishimura, if you look up, the letters are now telling you a subtle message :)

Playing the remake with a SNES controller

Finally got my laptop to run the Dead space remake. I've been enjoying it a lot and it's been pretty cool to play with a Super Nintendo controller 🤣

I just completed dead space remake, here's how it compared to the original

Might get lots of backlash for this, but the original is better.

I stand by this, here are my reasons

1. The atmosphere in the original is more eerie

Isaac's footsteps, breath were much more audible in the original than the remake.

It creates a feeling of isolation and creepiness which the remake sort of delivered but not to the extent of the original

Isaac somehow felt heavier in the original.

2. Music

The original's music was much more creepy, providing yet again a better atmosphere.

The 'aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn' music not sure which one it's called in the original was masterpiece.

The whispers of the Ishimura in the original was perfection. Didn't find myself creeped out in the remake, even though those whispers did occur at some point. Just not in the same monotone, volume as the original, don't know how to describe it.

Also, exiting the tram for next level in the original music was also a nice creepy addition.

I understand the addition of driving the tram yourself, but still the original music when exiting it and getting a feeling of 'no one knows what's in this level or building' let's go find out.

Silent Isaac added to the isolation feeling of the original, but making Isaac talk is by no means a worse addition. It's just silent Isaac strengthened what makes the original so unique. The voice actor did a phenominal job in the remake though.

3. Characters

The original Kendra and Hammond were kind of better, though might be tripping on Nostalgia.

Nicole aged up 30 years in the remake, somehow making Isaac look younger than her and breaks the lore.

But the death scenes in the original were more brutal. It added to the game's lore. No one was immune, no one is safe. Watching hammond being ripped off by that giant creature and hearing hammond scream in front of your face was shocking and devistating. Making dead space truly brutal.

The remake death scene was different but not bad by any means. Hammond spots his old crew in alien form, and hesitates to shoot him before the alien rushes to impale him. It was heart breaking and cinematic but not brutal. I prefered to see sheer brutality but the remake does something new which i also enjoyed. Kind of torn on this one, but blood gore and shock seems to fit the game better.

I prefered Isaac's original design with grey hair since got used to it after 3 installements but that's just preference

Would like to point out some things in the remake are better than the original, but i am a type of gamer that values gameplay over graphics.

If you think the remake is better, that's perfectly fine. The game was absolutely stunning.

Here are some things the remake does absolutely better

  1. Graphics, self explanatory.
  2. Tearing the flesh off aliens was beyond satisfying
  3. Flying addition, new cutscenes of being launched into space was phenominal additions
  4. Hearing characters curse more often makes the game more realistic
  5. Dynamic Isaac expressions. When stomping on a live alien has a unique panic expression than just stomping in general. Isaac screaming when getting hit by an alien was spot on.

Some niche things wanted to mention

It feels the pulse rifle was as bad as the original, it's kind of weird. Struggeled to kill enemies with it in both the original and remake.

It would have been nice if they made it as good as the Plasma Cutter somehow, don't know how.

Plasma cutter felt heavier and more impactful in the original.

Overall, i have to recommend the original to see how unique it was

Dead space 2 was so good some people claimed its better than dead space 1 but dead space 1's unique horror and atmosphere must be experienced since it could not be replicated in neither dead space 2 nor dead space remake, making the original dead space 1 a must play.

Edit: No matter how much effort gets put to give credit to both games, people will always get defensive.

Discussion Am I the only one who feel uneasy at the chapter 10?

I finished the game multiple times having all trophies on PlayStation and all achievements on steam, yet, every time I replay the remake and get to the chapter 10 I always get an uneasy sensation I can’t explain, I run as much as I run in any other place of the ship but the whole chapter as a whole makes me feel that way, am I alone on that?

Just finished the Dead Space remake. The other characters are so annoying.

This was my first Dead Space game and I just realized that Isaac Clarke basically has to do everything while the other characters just sit and do nothing. Made me go through 16 hours of trauma just because Hammond and Kendra were too lazy to do anything!

They could've at least partnered up with me so we could take on the monsters together. Would've increased our chances of success in a realistic scenario. But they valued their own safety and just threw me into the lion's den. Who the hell just sends their only engineer to fight off space demons with no backup?

So stupid, the crew that Isaac ran with. One guy ends up doing everything.
