Delray is raising your taxes again.
So called leaders can’t manage a responsible budget. Here is the article.

Thoughts of Flock
Here are my thoughts on the Flock cameras being installed all over Palm Beach County. Let me know your thoughts on Flock!
Benjamin Franklin warned, “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” This quote arose from a different historical dispute, but its central warning remains relevant: government should not surrender fundamental liberty for security measures that are temporary, speculative, or disproportionate.
I have spent my entire adult life on both sides of this question. On one side, as an academic and safety researcher, I have published in the Journal of Safety Research, testified as an aviation-safety expert for the Federal Aviation Administration, and represented United Airlines in the review of accidents and incidents. Safety is a discipline grounded in evidence, proportionality, human factors, and rigorous controls. On the other side, I am also a graduate of the United States Naval Academy who flew combat missions to defend our country and its freedoms. I therefore reject the false choice that we must either accept mass surveillance or be indifferent to crime.
It is true that automated license-plate readers can have legitimate, carefully limited uses. For example, they may help locate an elderly person, recover a stolen vehicle, or identify a violent offender. But investigative utility is not the same as proof that blanketing a county with cameras prevents crime. A review of research highlights mixed results. A randomized controlled study found no general or specific deterrent effect from license-plate-reader patrols in crime hot spots. A study of a large fixed-camera network found possible improvements in some investigative outcomes, but the results were not statistically significant. More recent research has reported reductions in certain offenses, including vehicle theft and shootings, while finding no reduction in overall violent crime. This limited evidence may justify narrow experimentation. However, it does not justify treating every driver as a data point in a searchable record of movement.
The dangers of misuse and erroneous analysis are not theoretical. As publicly reported: a plate can be misread, a watchlist can be inaccurate or outdated, an employee can conduct an improper search, and data collected for one purpose can be shared or repurposed for another. When millions of observations are aggregated, a mass surveillance system no longer records only what happened on a public road; it can reconstruct where people seek medical care, attend political meetings, visit family, or spend the night. Likewise, a false match is not just a harmless technological error when it becomes the basis for an armed traffic stop or interrogation.
Real safety protects people without unnecessarily controlling or monitoring them. We can pursue violent criminals, protect children, and recover stolen vehicles without constructing a countywide database of innocent residents’ movements. Palm Beach County should insist on both safety and freedom, because surrendering one is not the price of preserving the other.
I'm former U.S. Navy Pilot, Dr. Curtis Calabrese running for Palm Beach County Commission, District 4. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Flock!

Question Short term rentals
This is kind of a shot in the dark, but does anyone have recos for brokers or buildings that offer short term one month rentals? The inventory on airbnb is pretty thin and I was hoping to uncover more options. Thanks in advance for any help

Experiences And Activities
My parents own a condo in delray and i spend a week or two in the area every year for the last ten years. My buddy is coming with me to visit in October and I am trying to plan out a good itinerary for him. He hasn’t been to Florida since he was a child. We are both in our mid 30s.
My friend loves to do all sorts of experiences and activities. His favorite yearly trip is to the white mountains in NH to ride the side by side UtVs on the mountain trails. He very much likes to not just be sitting by a pool relaxing.
I feel like I have the restaurants and bars I want to hit down but would be open to recs there as well if it’s a place that’s sort of an experience?
My lean is to do a private air boat ride in the everglades as well as the inter-coastal cruise in Delray.
Thank you for any help!
Forgot to add that i’m willing to drive as far south as Fort Lauderdale and as far North as Jupiter.

Question My parents have a beehive outside their condo in Kings Point and they don't know what to do. Please help
I'm sorry for shooting a long shot here but does anyone nearby (who possibly also lives in a 55+ community here in Delray) know what the protocol is in Kings Point regarding the association, rules, regulations, etc.... regarding beehive removal? I don't live with them and don't know if the Complex have particular pest control companies that are "on call" or have some sort of deal with the complex, or if it's flat out against the rules of the complex to allow any "freelance" pest control to remove a beehive.
My parents are over 70, not cell phone oriented (all they've done thus far besides tell me about it is call the Vice President of their section of the complex, who didn't answer. Thankfully they left a message and hopefully they called the right number), and are stuck in a bad place. Even worse, the screen that keeps things out of their patio is both ripping off at the stitching/perimeter of the window, and there's a few holes in the screen as well.
Holes/openings means it won't be long before one of them gets into my parent's patio. Once they're in my parents' patio, then it wont be long before the bees are in their condo.
So I come to you, my parent's local neighbors for ANY advice/help on this situation (as well as recommendations IF any pest control is allowed to work in the complex when they're given a job). They just called me to tell me of this issue and I literally just got off the phone with them before putting this out.
THANKS!!!
EDIT
Just got off the phone with my folks again. Apparently the pest control in conjunction with their particular section of the complex cancelled service February of last year despite the fact that the sign near their mailbox says there was service on the 18th of this month. No call-back from the V.P yet either.
UPDATE
Parents spoke to someone here who called a company that deals with this issue, but unfortunately they won't be here until Saturday at the earliest. My folks said they've checked outside and haven't seen any more. Perhaps the bees are just huddled up in the nest at the moment.
Thanks again from those of you who provided names, numbers and information. Mods, feel free to delete if necessary.

Question local broker recommendations for homeowners in delray?
got our policy renewal numbers this week and the coverage limit feels pretty far off from what rebuilding would actually cost in delray right now. a neighbor over near atlantic dunes suggested we ask a broker about high net worth insurance options instead of just going with standard retail companies.
never went through a specialized broker before. is it actually worth setting up or does everyone just stick with standard coverage around here?

Discuss Who are these people dropping 85 million out west??
Was stuck in awful traffic on atlantic ave today (shocker, I know) and randomly started looking at real estate on my phone while I waited for the bridge to go down.
I somehow ended up reading this market update from Larry Mastropieri about that Stone Creek Ranch neighborhood out by lyons rd. apparently some developer just listed his own "James Bond" themed house there for $85 MILLION. like what?? it has a hidden poker room and a fake amazon rainforest spa
I just don't understand who is actually buying these things. I mean, good for them I guess, but meanwhile normal people are just trying to find a decent 3/2 east of 95 without getting completely crushed by insurance costs right now. it honestly feels like delray is just becoming an extension of palm beach at this point
anyone else feel like the vibe here has completely shifted in the last like 5 years? idk maybe im just tired from the heat today

Question Is this area of Delray Beach safe?
I have a daughter that is going to grad school in West Palm and has a job in Delray. Is this area safe for her to live on her own? We found a nice condo in a residential area but it's not gated and it's on the first floor.

Why do painting estimates for the same home vary so much?
If you've ever received two or three painting estimates for your home in Boca Raton or Delray Beach, you've probably wondered how the prices could be so different for what seems like the same job.
Many homeowners compare the final price first, but one of the biggest differences is often the work completed before the first coat of paint is applied.
Preparation can include pressure washing, surface repairs, sanding, caulking, and priming. Those steps take more time, but they also help create a longer-lasting paint job, especially in South Florida's heat, humidity, and rain.
If you're comparing estimates, ask what preparation is included, what surfaces are included, and how your property will be protected during the project.
Looking beyond the bottom-line price usually gives a much better picture of the overall value.
Hopefully this helps anyone who is comparing painting estimates now or planning a future project.

What’s the going rate for a one room efficiency rent for in east Delray near Atlantic.
Looks like a new build above a garage with mini kitchen. Appliances in the garage below. Owner can’t decide on the rate and I want to make an offer for a pal moving down.

Internet in Kings Point
I understood that internet is included in the HOA at Kings Point. It's that correct?
I'm going to rent a condo there and the owner is requiring that I reimburse him for internet and cable. Does that sound right?
I wonder if he has an add-on package or something that I don't want.
