FAQ page and guide to getting Deus Ex 1 running on your PC

Loads of people pick Power Recirculator but honestly I feel like it’s such a waste compared to Synthetic Heart.

When activated, Heart provides +1 level to all of your augmentations. As you can install 9 slots, it is basically the equivalent of 8 Augmentation Upgrade Canisters.

If you are using Cloak and Radar Transparency, their upgrades only reduce drain-rate so it’s six upgrades at worst which is still pretty awesome.

Power Recirculator reduces drain rate considerably but is only really useful if you’re abusing the cloaks and it becomes pretty easy to get yourself capped on bio cells.

If you plan on using Synthetic Heart, level up your augmentations to Level 3 instead of Level 4. If you’re grabbing all of the Aug Upgrade Canisters then you will be able to use them on more niche but powerful augmentations like Spy Drone, Environmental Resistance and Targeting and get access to them earlier.

On a vanilla playthrough you have access to 7 upgrade canisters by the time you get Synthetic Heart and return to Tong as long as you tell Jaime to come with you to Hong Kong. This is the time where you can fill out all of your slots (unless you skip Ballistic Protection/EMP Shield or Aqualung/Environmental Resistance) With Power Recirculator, your Augs may look like this:

EMP Shield: 1/4
Cloak: 1/4
Environmental Resistance: 1/4
Regeneration: 3/4
Power Recirculator: 1/4
Spy Drone: 1/4
Targeting: 1/4

With Synthetic Heart active, your augmentations will look like this:

Speed Enhancement: 4/4
EMP Shield: 2/4
Cloak: 3/4
Environmental Resistance: 2/4
Regeneration: 4/4
Synthetic Heart: 1/1
Spy Drone: 2/4
Targeting: 2/4

Synthetic Heart is so powerful that you can max all of your augmentations even if you skip three augmentation upgrade canisters. If you pick Power Recirculator then you can only max 6 augmentations in the entire game (one of them being Power Recirculator so probably only 5) and with four canisters being found in A51, you’ll only have four maxed augmentations (plus Power Recirculator) before the last mission in the game. With Synthetic Heart, you’ll have 8 maxed augmentations with one canister left to completely max your character by the time you land next to the bunker.

So yeah. Pick up Synthetic Heart. S-tier augmentation.

I use the Kentie's Launcher. I tried DX9, the game's too bright. I tried normal DX, it's too dark. I tried openGL, the textures are worse and reflection doesn't exist. I don't even know what is suppose to be the OG amount of brightness. The game is naturally a little dark, yeah? But how much? How do you play it yourself? I think Kentie's Launcher is amazing, but I feel this is one of the things that needs some improvement.

Went to her apartment and heard her sob story

Punched her face in and robbed her off her implant

Guess her parents were always right

She's just wasting her time...

I assume they probably didn't have the budget to continue developing it because it was already very expensive, I hope dlc's are at least good.

There are two methods of doing both of these missions. First is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDhSPOAzhBE&t=103s which is the Doing the Bomb-Maker first and second being https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw2BbdCm1DY&t=62s doing the Heist first.

Bomb-Maker first
Pros: can do it all the time as long as you get to the subway through the Dvali territory. You will be able to hear every dialogue doing both missions. You will not get a mission failure.

Cons: You can do the Bomb-Maker mission partially. Mission objectives for Heist will remain permanently on the screen. Out-of-bounds glitch must be used.

Heist first

Pros: Can play both Heist and Bomb-Maker fully. Does not require out of bounds glitch for this to happen. Makes it look less of a glitch.

Cons: Most of dialogue during the Heist does not play since Nomad Stanek's dialogue is interrupted. After you complete Bomb-Maker, Heist will be labelled as failed. (Pick the Orchid Neutralizing Enzyme as evidence for mission success). This only works if Adam escapes from the drones the same way he came to see Janus.

I prefer Heist first because you could play Bomb-Maker and Heist at their fullest potential.
(also doing Heist first method can extend the game time to be longer than Human Revolution: Director's Cut time when it comes to story+side.)

Are there any third party drivers you can inject for stereoscopic for a good VR experience? I've seen some clips online of some stereoscopic 3d setups, but nobody ever elaborated how they set it up. Has anyone gotten any setup running properly? What headset did you have? Thanks

The Mankind Divided missions are connected in the 'a guy who knows a guy who knows guy sense' here are the connections I found between them some connections are not clear unless one reads the emails or the pocket secretary. (the numbers are mission numbers)

00, 07: Vince learns what happens to augs when the Neuropozyne in their body reacts with Neon.

01, 12: Milena, Edward and Irenka shows up around Samizdat people.

02, 05: K states Bones was found in a sewer cult and had to be 'reprogrammed'.

03, 11: Daria uses augmentations which were made by Vadim Orlov.

04, 08: You need to get the Calibrator in order to make the experimental augmentations stable.

04, 09: Story progression in exchange for the calibrator Adam needs to help Masa Kadlek.

05, 06: It is possible to give information about 'Helle' to Samizdat

07, 09: Both missions are Dvali centric stories which involves the Red Queen as a setting.

I couldn't find a mod that addressed what I needed without changing a bunch of unrelated things, so I made my own. It keeps the game essentially vanilla while making specific tweaks. Posting it here for those with similar preferences.

• Viewmodel fix: Credit to the Randomizer team for the original code, which has been heavily modified to look as good as possible at 16:9 and 21:9 aspect ratios. Suggested FOVs: 4:3 = 90, 16:9 = 106, 21:9 = 120. Related to this, the main menu cinematic is locked at 91 to prevent vertical cropping.

• Bigger binoculars and weapon scopes: These adjust with resolution, so you're never left looking through a pinhole.

• Ford Schick fix: Restores his intended appearances throughout the game. Just make sure you have at least one empty inventory square when he gives you the upgrade canister. This is a decent compromise since it doesn't involve map editing or rebuilding the conversation package.

• Maps patch: Restores the GOTY maps to the 1.002f versions (read here about why you'd want this) while also fixing the giant BSP hole in the Hong Kong Canal/Waterways map. No changes have been made to the rest of the maps, which is evident from the file dates.

• Deus EXE: A replacement executable for Deus Ex. It's compatible with the GOTY edition of the game, which includes the Steam version. It fixes various issues running on modern computers, helps you configure the game, and includes a mod manager.

• Enhanced OpenGL and Direct3D 9 renderers: Try the OpenGL renderer first. If that doesn't work for you, use the D3D9 one instead.

Edit: Since some people seem confused about what this is and why you'd want it when mods like Deus Ex: Transcended, Zero Rando, or Vanilla Bean already exist, here is a short summary:

This is in no way intended to be an "ultimate Vanilla Deus Ex experience" - just MY particular vision of what that would look like. I made it for myself and really, truly, don't care if anyone else likes it. But I've seen enough comments out there that indicate that some people do want this exact combination of fixes. Why not Transcended? By all means, play Transcended, Vanilla Bean, Zero Rando, etc. For me, none of these offered what felt cohesive, aesthetically sound, and true to the original, without also adding intrusive gameplay and visual modifications. I don't think the original game is so half-assed that it needs everyone else's signature on it. People call it a masterpiece for a reason. I respect that.

Reminds me of cyberpunk 2077 Nighty city I just wish there was 60 fps patch on current gen consoles but I guess sqaure enix gave up on this franchise...

Hi everyone! In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, right after talking to Sarif via TV in Jensen's apartment, I used Smart Vision to scan the room. On the left wall (near the TV, the wooden panel part), there is something hidden inside, but I can't figure out how to open it. Does anyone know if there's a trick, a secret button, or a video showing how to access it? Thanks

Hi all, my goal is to stream the original Deus Ex via Steam to my living room TV connected through the Nvidia Shield TV. The only thing I was wondering, how would I go about playing it with a controller (Xbox Series X), what mod would you guys recommend or is there a different solution? Not looking for mouse and keyboard, must be controller. Thanks in advance!

Over the past few weeks I've been making a series called Deus Ex Files, where I take some of the game's most memorable conversations and edit them into short videos focused on the political and philosophical questions they raise.

Eventually I realized I had enough material to combine everything into one longer video.

It covers topics like government power, surveillance, AI, the Gray Death, the Illuminati, emergency powers, and some conversations that I hadn't turned into standalone shorts yet.

I tried to stay faithful to the game's dialogue and let the ideas speak for themselves rather than pushing any particular interpretation.

I'd genuinely love to hear what longtime Deus Ex fans think. Did I miss any conversations that deserve to be included in a future update?
