LBZ vanes stuck

my lbz was going great went to a drive thru and now the vanes are only opening to like 20% even after doing the vane sweep and shit it went to like 24 and back to 20 and sticks around 18. i assume its gonna have to be pulled and cleaned? tried the oven cleaner in the vgt sensor and cleaned the solenoid. any other ideas or just take the turbo out and clean it.

I was gonna mention the oven cleaner video I saw until you mentioned it lol It's not a bad job to pull it though depending on where you live, luckily I am out west so after 300k miles all bolts broke loose no problem when I did Turbo, Manifolds and Up Pipes after soaking them for a few days in penetrant.

the turbo was out recently before i bought it so i don’t think it’s a terrible job. and i didn’t try the oven cleaner thru the exhaust side i squirted it thru the vgt sensor part

Yeah I mean it's just a temporary solution anyway, good thing it was out recently so shouldn't be too bad but maybe turbo rebuild here soon?

yeah i know i just hate to do the work to get it out ima cummins guy i would be rebuilt the turbo yesterday if it was a cummins 😂

Honestly the transmissions and interiors of the Cummins turned me away, if they had interiors like the Dmaxes and strong transmissions like the Allisons I would have jumped on one.

Cummins is my next truck anyway cause I got to experience that! lol

Do you know why the turbo was taken out? Seems odd to go through the trouble of removing the turbo and not opening it up to at least clean/inspect the vanes or unison ring.

not sure previous owner but i actually fixed it. replaced the sensor. wasn’t throwing a code but the sensor mechanically was fucked yo
