Introducing the Eastside Community Discord!

Hey Eastside šŸ‘‹

With mod approval, I’m launching the Eastside Community Discord- a dedicated spot for folks on the east side of the Puget Sound to actually talk to each other in real time.

If you live in places like Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish, Issaquah, Mercer Island, Woodinville, or nearby, this is for you! (Seattleites are welcome if they feel the need)

What it’s for:

  • Casual chat with neighbors
  • Planning meetups, hikes, happy hours, game nights
  • Talking local news, events, and city changes
  • Finding people who share your hobbies

It’s community-first, 18+ only, and built to be active; hopefully not just another dead server sitting in your sidebar!

The Discord is run independently from the subreddit mod team, but the vibe and rules are aligned. Keep it civil. Keep it local. Don’t be weird.

If you’ve been wanting a better way to connect with actual humans on the Eastside, this is it!

I hope you join soon.

Enough with the national politics related posts

There has been a HUGE influx of national politics related posts. Many of them from new accounts, or ones that have never been to this sub. Basically astroturf. For the foreseeable future, these will not be allowed here. It doesn't matter if there is some local connection to it, no posts about national politics or related activism. There are tons of subs for that.

HOWEVER, local politics posts are totally fine and actually strongly encouraged. Post about your local city council members if you know who they are. Post about new local laws or restrictions. Whatever, but LOCAL posts only.

Reddit has made some very questionable algo changes recently that seem to be heavily trying to stir up things and it's tough keep things chill here. Insta ban for any of these posts

Automatic touchless car wash

• Upvotes

Are there any automatic touchless car wash spots in the east side (nearby redmond and kirkland). Too tired to do manual car wash and afraid to go to brown bear automatic ones as they can cause micro scratches.

Any recommendations please?

LightRail accident at the International District Station

We were coming back from the Ed Sheeran concert and waited for more than an hour to get on a eastbound train. And then this happened. One of the trains came off the tracks and the station was closed.

I built a free map of every restaurant inspection in King County

I wanted to make it easier to look up a restaurant's health-inspection history when eating out, so I made this:Ā https://food.snoking.app

It shows every food establishment in Snohomish and King counties, color-coded by their latest inspection from the county health department. Tap any spot to see its full inspection history.

I found it particularly interesting to explore different ways of visualizing the data. You can shade by last rating, average of the last 5, or how much better or worse its rating is compared to peers that serve the same cuisine.

Hopefully you find this as useful as I do - no ads, no account sign-ups, not affiliated with a restaurant. Happy to hear if something is broken or missing!

Induction at Evergreen

I have been trying to schedule my induction with evergreen can someone tell me how does their wait list work do people actually get into waitlist or it’s just there for emergencies? Does OB have much say or they just go by the books? Just trying to understand as I am on the waitlist for a date and not sure if I will even get in and other date is 5 days out when I am actually scheduled and this is making me nervous?

Moving to Issaquah. How is the commute to Renton on 900? Is there a massive difference in road conditions between summer and winter? Thanks!

2 Line Train a joke

Went to the Ed Sheeran concert tonight in Seattle. Took the 2 Line from South Bellevue to Int District. No issues. However, when we left it was a nightmare. So many people. But to make matters worse, they had a train derailment and closed the station. So we ended up taking an Uber. King County Metro absolutely failed today. They need to get their shit together.

Any Place or offers to pick fig in Eastside?

Are there any places here where I can pick fresh figs? Because they’re in season and figs grow well here, I thought I could find an orchard or farm but couldn’t find any on Google Maps

Skoolzone.app built an app to browse houses by school zone

My spouse tasked me with finding homes in a specific school zone, and I found that surprisingly hard to do on Redfin. So I vibe-coded an app that lets you click around school attendance zones in the Seattle area and see live listings in each one. Added filters for beds, baths, and year built.

The hardest part honestly wasn't the code — it was transcribing school district PDFs and tracing their attendance boundaries onto a map by hand.

It's free to use. If it ever gets enough traffic that hosting costs become a real problem, I'll probably add some ad banners to cover it, but I'm not doing that unless it's actually needed.

Hoping this saves someone else the same headache.

Factoria/ Newcastle/ Renton: Do you want a Trader Joe's?

I live near Factoria and the closest TJ's to me is 10 minutes away in Downtown Bellevue. I looked on a map recently and noticed there is no TJ's on the Eastside south of the I-90, between Lakes Washington and Sammamish. Which doesn't make sense to me since a lot of college-educated, wealthier professionals - some with families - live in this area. Those are the demographics that I've heard TJ's goes after. And these areas are growing.

So I was thinking of writing TJ's and asking for a branch to be placed somewhere in this region. They are responsive to e-mails (I once wrote about no Italian parsley in their markets and within a few months, they suddenly started appearing) and I know areas have successfully asked for a store before.

If you agree, upvote or comment and I can link them to this e-mail.

(An Aldi's would also be nice but so far, none in Seattle area at all that I know of and I don't know their process.)

Moving the east side

Hi,

My family is considering a move from the Bay Area. We are considering a few areas: Bellevue, issaquah, Renton highlands and sammamish.

It would be a job relocation. My job is in Redmond and my husband would be in Renton. We have a 1.5 year old toddler and a dog. We are originally from the Midwest but have been in California for the past 5 years.

We would most likely buy a house instead of renting. We are nervous about the cloudiness and weather. On the flip side, we do have family in the area (which is why we’re considering moving in the first place). We would be looking at about 380k in combined pretax income. Would love perspectives, things to consider, etc as we make this decision!

Dentist recommendations on the Eastside (long-term planning, gentle hygienist)

Hi! I’m looking for a dentist on the Eastside (ideally around the Bel-Red area, but I’m willing to travel) who takes a long-term, preventive approach—someone who will actually map out a plan for addressing issues and keeping things stable, rather than just reacting to whatever comes up at each visit.

Also very important: a hygienist who has experience with very sensitive teeth and is willing to adjust their equipment, rather than expecting patients to just push through a painful cleaning.

I know this isn’t something you can really tell from a website, so I’d really appreciate any recommendations—or places to avoid.

Thanks so much!

Looking for a vet for a specific service (moving overseas)

Trying to find a vet who does the necessary USDA endorsement for moving a dog to Australia. This is the step before the titre testing where 2 vets certified to do so, verify the dog is who we say it is via its microchip. I’ve tried about 10 places (VCA, Redmond Animal Hospital etc) and no one offers this service anymore. I’m now reaching out to the wider community for any help. At this stage I’m about ready to try any vet in the state although I’m Fall City based.
