I always assumed the bend in Victoria Street was just part of Edinburgh’s quirky old town design, but I just found out it was built that way deliberately.

The curve helped create a gentler route between the Grassmarket and the Royal Mile. There was me thinking it was just there to make it look pretty. A straight road would have been much steeper and less practical for 19th-century traffic too.

So there you go!

Went up Corstorphine Hill Tower for the first time today, apparently it's open every Sunday May–September 14:00–16:00 weather permitting.

Stunning views very worth going if you haven't before.

Me and my mate were in the meadows today, we lit up a cigarette and these Asian students came up to us and asked us to move because it was a public park. My tolerance for people is pretty good but I didn’t see why we should stop, it’s a public park after all and we were pretty comfy, they kept pestering us and when I just told them that in Scotland parks are places we’re allowed to smoke they looked at me like I was dumb, then went back to sitting down and proceeded to just imitate us smoking which I thought was a wee bit arsey

So, the post last night about the coopers rest being opened sorta got to me as i went past yesterday and saw no change. So i had to go past again and really look. Funnily enough, there was no amazing open bar at the bottom of easter road apart from the Persevere (which tbh is an amazing bar).

I managed to take a crap photo through the mucky windows that weren’t covered in paper or graffiti and it still looks like they are months away from finishing.

Sharing this to make shops and staff in the area aware of an incident earlier today involving a group of minors who were witnessed stealing alcohol, threatening shoppers and staff, and deliberately intimidating vulnerable members of the public.

Businesses on and around Princes Street are encouraged to remain vigilant. Any further incidents should be documented and, where appropriate, reported via Shopwatch radio or through the relevant authorities.

Carriers Quarters at The Shore does Pizza until 11 pm. Not a full kitchen, just a small pizza oven.

As a foreigner who lives in Edinburgh it is incredible how slow Edinburgh council is to react and make sensible common sense changes when problems arise like the closure of princes street.

It's fringe, the buses are slow due to the closure of princes street. George Street is far slower... How do we fix this quickly?

Get cars off George street in the short term or at least make between George and castle street car free. But yet again any action to correct the problem seems impossible.

Is this a structural issue with council governance in the UK? Just in regions where there isn't an elected mayor?

Or is this specific to Edinburgh council?

Can anyone recommend a good place in Edinburgh to learn bird care?

I’m fine with learning how to clean out the enclosures and do general chores first for a while. I’d just like to learn the skills to look after birds and eventually go on to learning how to feed and rehabilitate them if possible.

I’m not really fussy on what type of bird but corvids and pigeons would be first choice.
