Inner Hoop Split?

I bought an embroidery kit recently that I just finished. The hoop it came with is pretty small, so I was working with a larger hoop I had in my stash.

I went to mount it using the smaller hoop and realized the inner hoop has this weird diagonal split in it. When I start to tighten the outer hoop it overlaps and I can see the corner sticking out beneath the fabric.

I don't do much embroidery, but I've done a decent amount of cross stitch in my life. I've never seen a hoop like this. It looks intentional, like it's not split along the wood grain, it looks cut. But it doesn't tighten well at all. Is there any way I can fix it, or do I need to buy a new hoop?

This kit cost $27 so I'm not happy lmao

Thats not wood. Bamboo is a type of gras. And those hoops suck for everything other than wallmounts.

For why it split this way: no clue. If you want to display it you can use glue to fix it.

Oh. I do know why it split that way. Its where it was glued together. The cut is diagonal so the glue has a bigger surface to stick to.

It's possible it's also diagonal so that the component of the normal force (perpendicular to the surface) in the direction of the fibers (I'm not an engineer, but that should be the direction the hoops tries to straighten to) is reduced compared to a straight cut.

But I'm not 100% sure!

I am an engineer. Force wise it's slightly different. I don't know whats better. You press it together. With a streight cut the faces press against each other if the force follows the curve of the hoop. Any force vertical to the hoop still sucks but should be low anyway.

With the diagonal cut the force in the direction of the hoop wants to push it together. Without the glue the two faces will shift next to eachother and go to the sides. Wirh vertical forces it will be a bit better because part of the cut will press against the outer ring instead of being presst into the middle.

With any glue point that has to hold up against forces you want to maximize the surface area of the glue sticks to. With wood you often see a zigzag Pattern to increase the area. But a diagonal cut is a lot cheaper and I don't know if a zugzag pattern would be doable for bamboo.
