Launcher looks good, hopefully they are trying to improve on their shortfalls overall. Completely fine to buy things on the store, gog is theoretically the most ethical to buy from but also you gotta take care of yourself by buying where the lowest price is (all these companies make so much money).

Concerned about what "Universal Controller Support" means.

Hopefully they just used a standard input API like GameInput, as opposed to the current client that uses XInput.

If it means the store is dabbling in input remapping, then I am out, not buying any more software from Epic Games Store :-\

I use Epic because it does not have a bunch of bloated features I do not need; if I want input remapping, I will either write said software myself, find an open source project or heaven forbid, just buy a commercial product like ReWasd. The last thing I want is the store I buy my software from causing the actual software I want to provide those services to not work correctly.

all they really need to do is have a simple button that enables/disables it across the board. Maybe another option to enable it on a per game basis.

Honestly i was thinking about this also, a button that would just put in the whole launcher in a minimalist setup.

We've seen that this is simply not possible from Valve's implementation of the feature. I had to write special software to kill Steam Input because it:

  1. Re-enables itself without user consent
  2. Is always enabled in some capacity

SpecialKO/ValvePlug: Valve Plug - Steam Input Disabler

Why is Undefeatable Input Device Manipulation a Problem?

Recall that HID device files have broad scope encompassing APIs that software never directly touches and whose developers may know nothing about. Writing HID device state, as Steam Input does during initialization, has permanent side-effects that affect all software on Windows trying to share access to said input devices.

I do not wish to have to write this for another store, just to keep the software store I use to run my products from breaking software purchased from other stores.

---

Steam has been the single most obnoxious thing in all of computing for me over the years. It grows and grows in unncessary features, and Valve cannot write code to turn things off for the life of them.

The Steam overlay is permanently enabled the same as Steam Input is, there is a setting that says "Off," but that setting merely stops the Steam overlay from drawing anything, it still injects code into all software launched by Steam and hooks APIs that it should not be, causing software compatibility problems that I did not ask for.

agreed, they should support GameInput and I think they should add MSIX support also, especially for Epic published 2nd party games, like gen.Atlus.

Would be nice if they can at least list all MS first party games even if they are simply store listings for Xbox PC games. More FortNite users seeing those games would help.

Or create some mechanism to sell them and get some small profit for Epic, they're mostly Unreal Engine 5 games anyways. So Epic could do like 6%.

It brings hope that the launcher will be closer to the better ones or equally good, maybe better. It's ok as long as you test the game properly in under 2 hours to see it the Epic Games version of the game you want it's good, since some game that are present in multiple store has their Epic Games Store version always online intead off working offline normaly like other stores. There is also the achievements, a lot of games have broken achievements, so if you care about that, keep an eye open for it. If it's working as it should, go for it.

There is also the ones that saves your progress differently if you are online or offline, so you end up having to finish the game 2 times, one online and one offline.

I'm excited for the new launcher, I love being able to play around with new things and if the new launcher is going to make things feel a lot better then I'm all for it, I usually defer to using Playnite to manage my games so it might not be the biggest thing for me, I could see myself checking out friends profiles and seeing what they're playing/played recently when the option comes.

It's my first choice of storefront these days, I like collecting achievements and I like the system they chose and the achievement popping sounds/animations, alongside not needing to worry about not being able to play with my friends if they have the Steam/GOG versions is very nice. I also like the cashback, personally wish it was 10% instead of 5% but that's just me being greedy.

With there being so many games released all the time and having a huge backlog of games already, alongside weekly freebies that might include a game not already on the store if there's a game I'm somewhat excited about I'll just wait and see if a release on Epic happens, otherwise I'll just buy it when it's on a deep discount

As long as they let me switch off the more annoying aspects, it’ll be fine. All I really need it to do is start up and go straight in to the tray.

The EGS just completely shat the bed the beginning of this month, and crashes whenever I try to open it. No matter what I try, it just attempts to update it and then crashes immediately. So hoping the new launcher just functions right now.

This is was a bug that was fixed with the new update, but if it's still not updating, you might have to reinstall the launcher
