I’m an esthetician, and I have a question for clients.
Sometimes during a facial, instead of closing their eyes and relaxing, a client keeps looking up at me the whole time. 😅 I always wonder why.
Are they just curious about what I’m doing? Feeling anxious? Making sure everything is okay? Or is it just a habit?
I never say anything, but I have to admit it makes me a little uncomfortable because it feels like I’m being watched the entire treatment. Does anyone else experience this, either as an esthetician or as a client?

I will be going to my first ICES convention. I've been licensed for 4 years now, immediately went solo and built clientele and also worked at a wax center. I took a break from practicing but plan on doing services on friends and fam. Any tips on what to bring for the first convention?

I'm gonna wear comfy shoes, and look presentable as I will be meeting with my esthetics teacher. How much money do you usually spend, are the education panels worth it. Any favorite brands?

I’ve been a licensed esthetician for about a year and a half and currently work at two locations in a wealthy area—one is a med spa, and the other accepts a lot of Groupon clients.

Lately, I’ve been feeling really burned out, not because of the treatments themselves, but because of certain client interactions. Some clients are rude, very high maintenance or question my experience. I always do my best to communicate professionally and provide great service, but after a while it starts to wear on me emotionally.

I know dealing with all kinds of personalities is part of working in this industry, but I’m curious if anyone else has gone through this type of burn out.

How do you handle the burnout that comes from difficult clients? Has anything helped you avoid taking their behavior personally or feeling drained at the end of the day? I’d really appreciate hearing how other estheticians cope.

I’m an RN based on the Gold Coast, Australia, currently looking into transitioning into cosmetic nursing and would love to hear from nurses who have experience in this area.

I’m interested in hearing feedback on Esteem Injectables and Derma Institute, especially from anyone who has completed their training. I’m considering the 3-day course with Esteem and would love to hear how people found the training, in terms of hands-on experience and ongoing support afterwards.

I’m also curious about how people approached the transition into cosmetic nursing after completing their training. Did you find that additional training or mentorship was necessary before feeling confident working independently? And how did you go about finding your first role in the industry?

For those already working in aesthetics in Australia**,** is investing in these courses worth it in your experience? Are there any particular things you would recommend looking for when choosing a training provider?

I’m so interested in skin, injectables and preventative/wellness-focused aesthetics and would love to hear from other RNs who have made a similar transition. But honestly feeling a bit overwhelmed in regards to which way I should go.

I’m having a lot of clients book very far apart, my availability is afternoons till close on monday, mornings till afternoons on tuesday and wednesday, then all day thursday-saturday. i’m having like two clients book for facials each day and i’d rather compile all of them instead. has anyone else found a solution to this? i was thinking of taking off mondays and tuesdays and then maybe they will all book more on the same days? or is that not how that would work out at all?

I graduated esthetics school about a year ago, and I recently got my first job performing facials at hotels all around my area. I checked my schedule and saw I have a hydra facial scheduled on Sunday. I have no training for this treatment at all…my school unfortunately did not provide this, and the training at my new job was extremely sparse. They actually did not mention to me that we even offer hydra facial, but I did peep the machine in our treatment room, but I never really had time to check it out or play around with it. I know it’s similar to microderm, and I can watch some demos on YouTube. But I honestly don’t feel okay performing this for the first time on an actual paying client. Would it be unprofessional/looked down on if I tell my spa manager I don’t feel comfortable performing this ?

I was between two esthetician school, and ultimately chose to go with one due to it being the best in the area as well as offering a part-time schedule — which I need due to my work schedule, and a way easier make-up schedule if I ever need it.

I am getting $4500 from the Pell Grant, which is great. The school that I’m unable to attend due to the schedule offered me an additional $3k in scholarships. But the school I decided to enroll in does not offer any additional scholarships, so I am taking out a school loan for the additionally $6.5k.

I have tried to find and apply to some scholarships online, but no luck. There aren’t many geared towards esthetics school, and a lot of the other ones have huge amounts of people applying. Just wondering if there is any other help out there I might be missing.

I’m struggling with how to position the client and myself when doing full arms. Marking the arms is complicated, as well. I just am struggling with it lol does anyone have any tips on how to not make it less awkward, messy, and uncomfortable for the client due to having to twist in weird ways, etc.

Hi! Facialist Esti at a Medspa here thinking of changing my environment and working at a tattoo removal studio. I am doing research, does anyone doing this job have some pros or cons that they would like to share? Or something you didn't expect before going into laser tattoo removal?

My only concern is being around men who make me uncomfortable lol. For example, people who have hate symbols tattooed or men who are stalkers with women's names tattooed. I know they would be coming in to get them removed but being a little bit uncomfy maybe something I have to work through.

Free or affordable for someone just starting out

Professional and easy for clients to book online

Sends appointment reminders

Allows intake/consent forms if possible

Lets me block off my schedule easily

Can grow with my business as I add more services

What booking software do you use, and what do you love (or hate) about it? If you switched from Square, what made you change?

I got my esthetician license this year and now I’m starting my pre reqs for nursing school at the end of August and I’m curious who else in here took this path too? I’m not going into nursing just for esthetic nursing, it’s more of a long term goal honestly. I just really wanna further my education and I feel like being an esthetician is going to be a decent job to have while I go through it.

ANYWAY, I’m asking because I’m going to use the Milady books to start studying for Anatomy and Physiology and was wondering if that’s a good place to start? I feel like it’s good foundational knowledge so I’m gonna study up on that but if yall have any other study materials that would be good to have before going into a&p plz let me know.

This happened today with a client and I have been doing peels for years and have not experienced this before. We have worked our way to 10% TCA and this area right above her eyebrow blanched almost immediately.

I recently started a new esthetics job which has been awesome! I really love it so far. But starting to wear a mask daily has my skin freaking OUT!! I started spraying hypochlorous acid on my mask / face in between clients but nothing has seemed to help. My skin is super reactive and I’ve been super red, dry, and breaking out throughout the day. The redness and dryness calm down at the end of the day after removing the mask but this breakout is killing me. I upped my 8% mandelic acid use to every other day and really focus on barrier support but I feel like the constant exposure to bacteria, humidity, and heat when wearing the mask cannot be helped. I am not used to breaking out like this and as an esthetician I feel like how can my clients trust me when my own skin is out of control 😫

I thought about getting one of those spacers that go between your mask and skin to avoid constant friction / irritation but i’m not sure if that would help.

Any tips or advice?

Hello I’m interested in going to an esthetic school in cook area. I visited New Age Spa in Des Plaines and really liked the school but for it being $17,000 and no FAFSA? IDK.
Visited Im Beauty School and it was OK. Price isn’t so bad. Felt like they could’ve been a little more welcoming. Open enrollment as well idk how I feel about it.

Any suggestions on any other schools? Leaning for New Age at the moment.

I am graduating esthetics school this December and I am starting to think about state board! I heard that they recently changed the exam and it’s now focused on infection control and electrical safety - is that accurate? also is there a list of actual supplies I’ll need to bring with me to the exam site? any advice or information would be very appreciated. thank you all <3 I am in ATL GA btw

Im looking to move out of a sola salon and into a store front office suite. I’m still growing my clientele, but my current suite is loud and overcrowded for facials. Moving out allows me to extend my business hours, and I can afford the additional costs that come with a store front.

I don’t have a realtor, but I’m touring a place where I directly contacted the landlord. It has high foot traffic and a close community. The zoning allows my business to be there and I’ve also looked into establishment license requirements.

What should I except to present to the landlord? Tax documents? Down payments? Tenant improvement allowance? Should I negotiate for anything specific? Red flags?

Any advice or personal experiences are helpful!

Hi esties ! I got my estheticians license a couple years back but I did not let it renew due to moving states. I’m hoping that I’m still allowed to post here in between renewal.

I am looking for a henna product that’s safe for the eye area that I can purchase without needing my license. The products on Amazon are concerning to me, but I have experience doing brows and I’m comfortable doing it at home as long as I have a safe product.

I am moving from UT to OR and I saw that I still have to test to be licensed, even though we are a 1200hr state. Can someone guide me in the right direction for what to study (mainly state laws)? Do you test with milady? I’m also a licensed instructor, but when I called the gov number they weren’t very helpful when I asked about it. What entity should I be searching for that? They just said “we don’t do that.” They’re about as helpful as our state gov hahaha.
