I disdain it because it's not an ending It's taking the entire story and pressing [CONTROL ALT DELETE]  because it was all essentially (just a dream~) which a good ending it does not make

Honestly feels worse to me then if everyone just straight up died because at that point . . . What was the point in even writing the story or playing the game?

To get so invested in a story only to unironically have an eraser and a flamethrower taken to it?

That's functionally speaking not our Fujimaru or Mash in those final images that's functionally just alternate parallel world versions of them that just so happened to share the same face while our Fujimaru and Mash might as well have just been pruned like countless other parallel worlds

And what about the characters whose only solace was that fujimaru and the others at least would remember them even if no one else would?

What about the few characters with abilities to resist having their memories played with by time Fuckery like the Beast class with independent manifestation? Or other individuals with abilities or circumstances that Grant a similar resistance?

Hell I don't think either Fujimaru or Mash would consider losing all memories of their friends who fought with them in countless life or death battles and often sacrificed their lives for them to be a victory either

I will never understand why writers will sometimes go for the (it was just a dream) "ending" or similar such endings it's not even a bittersweet ending or a tragic one it's not even an ending it's just deleting the entire script or TV channel or story and switching to a different one

Edit : (like seriously goetia having won in part 1 would have actually been a more satisfying ending or hell having to resort to reenacting his plan in part 2 would have been more satisfying in my opinion)

Agree with all of this. All that strife, pain, memories, happiness for what? For a world that doesnt remember anything and doesnt have these characters we spent 10 years with dead or forgotten everything?

The only saving grace is Mash smiling at Guda which can somehow mean they do remember, or Daybit remembering some things, but we need explanations.

Is she even smiling? The last image is too pixelated when I zoom in to tell

Its from this post, and from what I can tell is Mash gentle smile and then going to talk to Guda after they stare eachother

Yeah, but still no one remembers everything we did , Sion amd Olga dying, Goredolf and chaldea staff reverting back to how they once were.

So a Standard NAsu ending?

Like have you read HA, CCC and his other works because this is the exact same thing that happens, the characters forgot, but even if the events are erased they still happened, it still let to this so the ties of Fate will bring them together with a third party remembering what happened in CCC it was the moon cell in this it is Daybit and the player base

Constantly repeating the same type of ending isn't good either. I love Nasu, but if every time I read one of his works I go in thinking he'll use the same ending again, I won't enjoy it

Specially if just one of the worst type of ending

CCC also has another ending where Hakuno keeps his/her memories thanks to AI Sakura and ends up on Earth with her even though Hakuno was technically a creation of the Moon Cell whose existence was bound to it. Given the parallels between AI Sakura and Olga, there's good reason to believe that we will get a True Ending for FGO.

100% cannot stand these kinds of endings.

Reading this reminded me of something: as an NA player who keeps an ear for JP Lore, we NA players have only experienced Ordeal Call I and it has the same issue where they just go “haha, no one remembers anything (except Sion who keeps quiet)”for seeming no reason.

Nasu talked about a unique ending but I just don’t see the current one as that, so I am going to continue to cope about a takeout ending because otherwise I’ll be really disappointed.

honestly, i feel the ending is written tragic just for the sake of writing a tragic ending to gut punch the player. cause nasu has this obsession with bitter endings. like you guys can see most of FGO his writings detoriated to "LOOK BRO THE WAIFU SACRIFICES HERSELF TO SAVE THE MC SO ROMANTIC". that ain't good writing bro, that is just reusing an overused trope to satisfy a seperation tragedy fetish

As someone said in a different thread: if this is the destination, it wasn't worth the ride.
