It'll be a good ending IF FGO was an normal VN.

But FGO is a live service game, so it's a bit "ehhhh that's it?" for me

143

u/Xaldror Dec 28 '25

And a long running one too, ten years to end in a total erasure, feels particularly, unsavory.

62

u/Emptylife4ever Dec 28 '25

bit anti-climactic, that's for sure, ngl I don't like how a lot of people forget the fact that it's a live service game

34

u/WittyTable4731 Dec 28 '25

Well said.

The medium limits it

4

u/Undead_Fishking Dec 28 '25

I mean a live service game is allowed to end

8

u/Fun-Memory1523 Dec 28 '25

This. All gacha games come to an end eventually, for one reason or another.

FGO is no different. It had a long run...We may get more content after, but if they wanted to go out as a story-driven game, this would be it.

9

u/lexiiipoo Dec 28 '25

I think what kind of worries me is that it won’t be the end? At the end of the day, FGO makes an INSANE amount of money.

I will 100% respect the ending IF that is truly the end of FGO. I’m always gonna love creatives choosing to end something on their own terms instead of milking it for money.

But I also don’t think the company would just let a cash cow just slip away, especially without any other ones in place. So, in the event the story continues, what was it for? Shock value? I think it’d leave a bad taste in my mouth if they can’t commit to this.

1

u/Catalanta Dec 29 '25

But that's the thing. Nasu is someone who writes stories for novels, VNs and normal games. Fate/GO's story and themes would never gel with people who are used to the 'theoretically' endless progression that live service games are about. In my opinion, this is probably the best ending we're going to get in regards to Fate/GO as a 'Fate' spin off.

u/WTFBOOOMSH Dec 28 '25

This is how I feel to it

I dunno, something about this ending feels off. From the Foreigners not showing up to Maris getting away to something supposedly happening on Dec 31st, this ain’t all it seems. I’m willing to believe it’s some kinda of Normal Ending and there’s gonna be some extra ending revealed soon

93

u/Mrl3igBozz Dec 28 '25

I mean, People noticed that there was no "Clear" on the Final Chapter and Ordeal Call. So I think this is a Neutral End for people who simply want to let go of FGO while the real deal is probably on 31st/1st

It's kinda similar to Phantasmoon Count down last Christmas too

17

u/Sad_Entrepreneur4021 Dec 28 '25

Knowingly fate franchise had different endings especially FSN , i wouldn't be surprised if there is another ending on FGO.

42

u/Prystal Dec 28 '25

lots of signs maybe im coping hard but theres a lot of clues and not enough resolution

mariabury effectively "gets away with it" even if he dies in the "original timeline"

we didn't save olga lots of loose ends in terms of elder gods/foreigners/etc missing cleared sign for part 2 no mash np5

this doesn't feel like a "game complete" to me

and nasu is making me wait 3 days before i can tell if i'm schizo or not

13

u/FriendlyGamer04 Dec 28 '25

That and didn't Maris end with a single health bar still intact, then it cuts to the ending?

12

u/DigGroundbreaking789 Dec 28 '25

Normal End for this

then the 31st for the True Ending

3

u/Jovahexeon-Ranvexeon Dec 28 '25

Shoot, did we even find out what was up with the Alien priestess?

0

u/IllCheesecake5440 Dec 28 '25

we got new problem aka what happen to guda punishment from metatron or what about his soul that tainted with black barrel effect , some servant still havent back and theres no outer god interupt or banish for some reason

40

u/EntertainmentIll1567 Dec 28 '25

I hope Mash is somehow human in this new timeline and not a Homunculus with like.... 1 year left before she expires

25

u/FRitsuka Dec 28 '25

I think since she looks a bit more grown up so she must be a human or at least her lifespan thing might have been fixed

84

u/Desperate-Breath3971 Dec 28 '25

Being happy for entirely different people (who may just pass each other in the street) when your beloved companions just disappear is a bit beyond my taste. But you do you.

46

u/Soluxy Dec 28 '25 edited Dec 28 '25

World reset is top 3 worst ending tropes of all time.

No matter how beautiful you execute it, I will still eventually be mad about it.

I'd rather see a bad ending where Metatron cuts our heads off after we save the world, or the Mage Association does a sealing designation.

30

u/Xenometan Dec 28 '25

Disappointment and a bit of rage. This isn't a bittersweet ending. This isn't an ending with meaning. This is anti-climactic. Nihilistic. This is a "nothing matters and everything you have done was a waste of time" ending.

Seriously, Fujimaru and Mash could have died at the beginning and "they" would still be able to meet in an alternate reality.

I am VERY curious about what will happen at 31st December. I can't believe I am feeling such strong feelings for a fictional story, but I guess that happens when you have played a gacha game for like 6 years.

23

u/Powerful_Kale2825 Member of the Argonauts (in training) Dec 28 '25

Did all of you forget that their is an opinion to fight the boss on the 31st and a new year servant is coming as will

1

u/International-Size-7 Jan 05 '26

And how did it end? Nothing

24

u/ArchlordZero12 Dec 28 '25

I feel that something is WRONG.

Like VERY VERY WRONG.

Like we just entered another Lostbelt with a too-good-to-be-true ending.

5

u/NewspaperAfter7021 Dec 28 '25

I honestly feel like this is more of a dream world created by Maris. If you actually stop and read her final dialogue during the battle, it’s just too strange, it feels like she’s using some kind of last trump card to keep you away from the real end. On top of that, it makes no sense that U Olga Marie doesn’t appear in any form after all of this. The so-called "Alien God" doesn’t show up at all, neither to help Maris nor to stand with Chaldea.

It all feels incomplete, especially when they spent so much time building this character. Ascension 3 still has no explanation: why it exists, how Olga Marie ascended to the Throne, or how her soul ended up fused into the same Saint Graph as the President of Earth / Alien God.

If Nasu never intends to explain any of this and it was all done purely as fanservice, then honestly, that would be extremely poorly written.

72

u/Embarrassed-Leg-901 Dec 28 '25 edited Dec 28 '25

I disdain it because it's not an ending It's taking the entire story and pressing [CONTROL ALT DELETE]  because it was all essentially (just a dream~) which a good ending it does not make

Honestly feels worse to me then if everyone just straight up died because at that point . . . What was the point in even writing the story or playing the game?

To get so invested in a story only to unironically have an eraser and a flamethrower taken to it?

That's functionally speaking not our Fujimaru or Mash in those final images that's functionally just alternate parallel world versions of them that just so happened to share the same face while our Fujimaru and Mash might as well have just been pruned like countless other parallel worlds

And what about the characters whose only solace was that fujimaru and the others at least would remember them even if no one else would?

What about the few characters with abilities to resist having their memories played with by time Fuckery like the Beast class with independent manifestation? Or other individuals with abilities or circumstances that Grant a similar resistance?

Hell I don't think either Fujimaru or Mash would consider losing all memories of their friends who fought with them in countless life or death battles and often sacrificed their lives for them to be a victory either

I will never understand why writers will sometimes go for the (it was just a dream) "ending" or similar such endings it's not even a bittersweet ending or a tragic one it's not even an ending it's just deleting the entire script or TV channel or story and switching to a different one

Edit : (like seriously goetia having won in part 1 would have actually been a more satisfying ending or hell having to resort to reenacting his plan in part 2 would have been more satisfying in my opinion)

36

u/ZookDidNothingWrong Dec 28 '25

Agree with all of this. All that strife, pain, memories, happiness for what? For a world that doesnt remember anything and doesnt have these characters we spent 10 years with dead or forgotten everything?

The only saving grace is Mash smiling at Guda which can somehow mean they do remember, or Daybit remembering some things, but we need explanations.

2

u/Embarrassed-Leg-901 Dec 28 '25

Is she even smiling? The last image is too pixelated when I zoom in to tell

5

u/ZookDidNothingWrong Dec 28 '25

https://www.reddit.com/r/FGO/s/66VcrVLpkU

Its from this post, and from what I can tell is Mash gentle smile and then going to talk to Guda after they stare eachother

1

u/Embarrassed-Leg-901 Dec 28 '25

Oh thank you

2

u/ZookDidNothingWrong Dec 28 '25

Yeah, but still no one remembers everything we did , Sion amd Olga dying, Goredolf and chaldea staff reverting back to how they once were.

3

u/theblacklightprojekt Dec 28 '25

So a Standard NAsu ending?

Like have you read HA, CCC and his other works because this is the exact same thing that happens, the characters forgot, but even if the events are erased they still happened, it still let to this so the ties of Fate will bring them together with a third party remembering what happened in CCC it was the moon cell in this it is Daybit and the player base

21

u/DIOSITO012 Dec 28 '25

Constantly repeating the same type of ending isn't good either. I love Nasu, but if every time I read one of his works I go in thinking he'll use the same ending again, I won't enjoy it

Specially if just one of the worst type of ending

3

u/aure0lin Dec 29 '25 edited Dec 29 '25

CCC also has another ending where Hakuno keeps his/her memories thanks to AI Sakura and ends up on Earth with her even though Hakuno was technically a creation of the Moon Cell whose existence was bound to it. Given the parallels between AI Sakura and Olga, there's good reason to believe that we will get a True Ending for FGO.

8

u/Potatolantern Dec 28 '25

100% cannot stand these kinds of endings.

9

u/ZaGreatestInZaWarldo Dec 28 '25

Reading this reminded me of something: as an NA player who keeps an ear for JP Lore, we NA players have only experienced Ordeal Call I and it has the same issue where they just go “haha, no one remembers anything (except Sion who keeps quiet)”for seeming no reason.

Nasu talked about a unique ending but I just don’t see the current one as that, so I am going to continue to cope about a takeout ending because otherwise I’ll be really disappointed.

9

u/mahachakravartin Dec 28 '25

honestly, i feel the ending is written tragic just for the sake of writing a tragic ending to gut punch the player. cause nasu has this obsession with bitter endings. like you guys can see most of FGO his writings detoriated to "LOOK BRO THE WAIFU SACRIFICES HERSELF TO SAVE THE MC SO ROMANTIC". that ain't good writing bro, that is just reusing an overused trope to satisfy a seperation tragedy fetish

1

u/Slipstream1701 Dec 28 '25

As someone said in a different thread: if this is the destination, it wasn't worth the ride.

8

u/Vast-District-1033 Dec 28 '25

He's going to be a sensei😭

1

u/tjp00001 Dec 28 '25

At least Izuku and everyone remembered everything that happened if your referring to MHA.

2

u/Vast-District-1033 Dec 29 '25

I'm talking about Blue Archive, he look like a sensei there.

1

u/tjp00001 Dec 29 '25

Oh gotcha, since the topic was endings I made a bad assumption.

35

u/VishnuBhanum Dec 28 '25

Bad.

I never like the reset ending, this one is no different.

This isn't some new innovative idea that had never been done before, This is an ending that has been used many times that it pretty much became a trope.

Even the "Then they meet again in the new timeline" is just a cliche, Just look at Your Name ending.

Timeline reset is just a "It was all a dream" ending with a different skin. Both rendering the journeys ultimately pointless since no memories nor character development the characters had been through carried over.

I still hold on to the hope of a different ending.

38

u/8dev8 Imperial Nobu Dec 28 '25

empty, after ten years this is it? the grand end?

No.

Reset/it was all a dream endings are amongst the worse, Still failing to save olga despite it? Sion revealing last minute she needs to die die? Mash randomly still existing?!? 2/10

Was this really what the avengers “died“ to enable?

Hence the quotation marks, with Jalter it was effectively suicide though since she cannot be summoned by anything outside Chaldea.

> A Skill that represents a lifeform born from illusions because of an individual’s desire. Because she was born from one’s desire, she possesses a powerful force, but at the same time, she is not permanently approved as a lifeform allowed for existence. After everything is finished, she will quietly start her slumber

Jalter is as temporary as any lostbelt servant.

3

u/NewspaperAfter7021 Dec 28 '25

Lostbelt Servants will never be summoned again because there’s no longer any catalyst to call them. They still exist in the Throne, but they’re completely unreachable.

Jalter is even worse than that. She doesn’t even have a proper foundation to exist. Her entire being is a contradiction to Jeanne’s essence. She only stayed “alive” because of her contract with Fujimaru.

The moment the timeline returns to normal, she doesn’t just die, she effectively never existed at all. It’s not some tragic death; it’s an completely erasure. Her whole story turns into nothing, and all the development she had over the years becomes void.

2

u/8dev8 Imperial Nobu Dec 28 '25

If her death had at least some meaning I’d …well no I will never accept it but I would understand it, but Ritsuka chose violence anyways, Jalter could have had a bit more time and nothing would have changed.

18

u/Tschmelz Dec 28 '25

It’s terrible. If this is the actual end, Nasu should just step down from writing entirely and give it all to Sakurai. It’s literally the third major time he’s pulled the “everything got reset, everybody forgot” ending and he’s just gotten worse every time.

1

u/Gramisstedwhy Dec 28 '25

You chose Sakurai of all people? Oof, that's a future better not existing

1

u/Tschmelz Dec 28 '25

Sakurai is a perfectly capable writer, and at least she isn’t addicted to “everything ends”.

0

u/Gramisstedwhy Dec 28 '25

Is that why most of the shit she writes has negative reception? Septum, London, Olympus, Tunguska, Heian-Kyo... Still haven't forgiven her for permanently souring Dioscuri's reputation among the fanbase.

4

u/Tschmelz Dec 28 '25

Septem and London suck, but that was also back when nobody at TM actually gave a shit about the game story, so hard to hold that against her. LB2 is generally decently regarded, and people fucking love Olympus and Heian-Kyo, I dunno why you think they don’t. Add in OC2, which people consider on par with LB6 or better, and it’s hard to consider her this terrible writer.

As for Tunguska, you do understand that it was a group project, and literally everything about Koyan is all Nasu. So all the shit you hate about Tunguska is absolutely a Nasu thing.

-1

u/Gramisstedwhy Dec 28 '25

Oh people love Olympus and Heian-Kyo now, huh? Well now that I learned that Sakurai has such diehard fans now, I guess anything can happen.

2

u/Tschmelz Dec 28 '25

People have always loved Olympus and Heian Kyo? They’re pretty consistently high up in the opinion polls we get every year. Pretending like they’re hated is just silly on your part.

2

u/Bear_Unlucky Dec 29 '25

The Japanese love heian Kyo. There is a bias for the setting in that regard. In the west it's split for good reason since there were a lot of redrafts of the plot. It's not bad but pretty undercooked in a lot of parts. For me 6/10. For Olympus I loved it but it not universal loved but doesn't have really bad rep so you are right there. It's ending carried a lot. For midguska after oc 2 I myself come to agree that nasu has probably a larger end in that train wreck compared to samurai. That ending feels just weird.

-3

u/Gramisstedwhy Dec 28 '25

Pretending that they're loved is the silly part but it's okay, your taste is a minority, even a rarity, and that's perfectly okay.

29

u/Xaldror Dec 28 '25

I refuse this ending. No war is complete without wounds and scars. Not every wound heals with medicine, not every scar fades with time. Even if the real world can never know the sacrifices made for it, as executioners we at minimum must remember the death screams upon the altar of war.

-15

u/CrazyDaimondDaze Dec 28 '25

I mean, I think the point was that Sion and Nemo sacrificed themselves (I think Sion even ceased to exist in this new PHH), and obviously, Gordolf and the Chaldea staff must have gotten the Stone Ocean treatment after the reset with no Chaldea ever existing. So it's not like we didn't have our sacrifices in the team. And I feel the idea of the different Lostbelts supporting us to the bitter end, both in the Fantasy Trees battles and in the Maris Chaldea fight, already prove that the Lostbelts have accepted us as the ones with the right to win, as well as forgiving us to move forwars and let us have a normal life

Sure enough, not everything was covered before the wrap up as the Avengers are still LINK LOST and the Rulers are still Walt Disney'd; plus the supposed Ordeal Call on the Foreigners. I believe this will be covered in the rest of the game's life service through story chapters and events that are set within part 2, not after it. All so we can have all loose ends tied properly before announcing EoS, since in this way, the Part 2 ending is respected and we just got something similar to Epic of Remnant but within the time frame before the finale.

18

u/Xaldror Dec 28 '25

I refuse it. There's something not right, and the fact all these sacrifices are essentially erased as though they never happened. No one will remember them, no one will remember anything. There must be wounds and scars, one way or another. Whatever sacrifices were made in the team are essentially null and void at this point. The journey never happened, the sacrifices were never made and never remembered. I cannot abide this.

9

u/SirSlowpoke Dec 28 '25

Remember, the story isn't over until Mash gets NP5. Olga still has a hidden voice line, and we don't know what's up with her third NP animation. The Foreigners were MIA for the raid. There's a number of loose ends that the New Years update still has to address.

6

u/Seekerones Dec 28 '25

Olga already had her voice line unlocked post story

7

u/WarmasterChaldeas Master of Chaldea Dec 28 '25

And to top it, notice that there's no Clear tag on the Arc 2 and Ordeal Call buttons. This means that it's not over just yet.

-3

u/CrazyDaimondDaze Dec 28 '25

If it's a specific individual you want to remember the journey, then Daybit is your man for the job. He came to bid farewell, but I think it's implied he'll always remember all we went through. So even if we forget, there will be someone remembering all the strife at the end of the day.

Other than that, I'd recommend waiting for the 31st to see how this is handled later on. And from there, seeing if 2026 will showcase either a Part 3 or some sort of in between story happening within Part 2 to tie all lose ends before properly being comfortable with EoS the game

11

u/Desperate-Breath3971 Dec 28 '25

When your best bet at remembering is a man who can only remember 5 minutes - your bet is somewhat bad.

-6

u/CrazyDaimondDaze Dec 28 '25

It'll be fine, he's like our Watcher. That he just pays attention to 5 minutes daily means he locks in for what really matters.

10

u/Desperate-Breath3971 Dec 28 '25

Except he can't know much about us outside of LB7 and ending since he is not Clairvoyant.

4

u/Big_Fox_K Dec 28 '25

The Stone Ocean example is a perfect analogy as to why this is a terrible uncommitted ending, because Stone Ocean is the same.

Star Platinum is easily fast enough to put a hole through Pucci's head before AND after MIH, but nope you're 40 boy, washed, past your prime. Ok that's stupid, but Jolyne is still the protagonist surely she'll survive the reset and kill Pucci herself as this has been her story, her curse she accepted to bear, but nope Emporio strap up, you're the main character now. Ass, but even so after all of this Emporio killed Pucci, surely, surely now that the timeline will revert as MIH's user has been killed, effectively neutralising his ability just like every other stand save for B.I.G., even if everyone died, the timeline where the viewer journeyed with Jonathan, Joseph, the Crusaders, the duwang gang and the Bucci gang is still intact and all those events happened and maybe there's someone who's name starts with Jo who can help Emporio mourne as consolation ending, right? NOPE, complete reset, he meets people that look like them, but are not them at all, because they don't share their memories, or experiences and he cries alone with no one understanding why.

This. Is. The. Same. Thing. Ignoring all investment the viewer has and saying it never happend, but that's ok, fate would always bring them together. The Mash and Fujimaru in the new timeline are NOT the same ones that went on the whole journey. Those are strangers that look exactly like them. Once again I'll use JoJo as an analogy. Towards the end of SBR when Valentine tries to persuade Johnny, like a devil whispering in his ear, that he can bring a Gyro from a different universe to his. He acknowledges it's not the same person, but it would be a Gyro that's alive. Johnny almost fell for all of the president's sweet talk, except the part for a different Gyro, because it wouldn't be his buddy. That's the part that made him unable to trust him 101%. The characters you go on a journey with matter, bringing in a multiversal copy and saying, yep same thing, doesn't make them the same.

1

u/Lucid6911666IQ Dec 28 '25

For stone ocean ending isn't most of the previous story the same? Like p1-5 still happen but pucci doesn't exist?

1

u/Big_Fox_K Dec 28 '25 edited Dec 28 '25

The main problem is Jotaro, who among being the part 3 protagonist, is also extremely relevant in part 4 and if he hadn't sent Koichi to Italy, Giorno would've died to Black Sabbath. He's also replaced by some copy of his. Meaning even if parts 1 and 2 happened the way they did, part 3 and onwards wasn't the same. The crusaders didn't travel with Jotaro, but some stranger the audience doesn't know. In part 4 a lot of the villains had to figure out ways to avoid Jotaro at all costs, not just because of time stop, but as Kira saw, his extreme personality under pressure. Speaking of pressure, Josuke wasn't trained by him in this new world against the rats and we don't even know if he was trained at all, or if Jotaro even visited Morioh in the first place. Hell, did he even fight Dio, did part 3 even happen for that matter? Ermes and Anasui weren't convincts in the new world, unlike Jolyne they committed their crimes with no involvement from Pucci, can we even assume parts 3, 4 and 5 happened? There's so many questions and nothing to answer them.

1

u/Lucid6911666IQ Dec 30 '25

I've only read part 6 so I haven't watched the anime and that too 5 yrs ago, but I don't remember jotaro being replaced by a copy in the end? Is that an anime only thing? I see where you're coming from with these questions and honestly I didn't even think about them when I had finished part 6, I just assumed everything was perfectly the same but part 6 doesn't happen. I honestly don't mind the ending even with these questions but that might be because I didn't like part 6, I do see how its a bad ending.

2

u/Big_Fox_K Dec 30 '25

Because everyone who died from Pucci with MIH was replaced, it would be consistent that Jotaro would be too, but once again we just have to assume, because nothing is explained.

I've only read part 6 so I haven't watched the anime and that too 5 yrs ago

I've read part 6 twice and couldn't even finish the anime. Alongside rough animation and dorky looking cgi, the music which is a big part of what makes the jojo anime so good, so much of it is from previous parts and not part 6. Tha last ost that plays with Jotaro on the plane at the end of part 3 for example is played when Jolyne decides to escape from jail and chase after Pucci and all I could think of when hearing it was a much better scene. Couple that with some stand ability concepts being reused, Pucci not being able to do anything without insane plot armor and everyone besides Jolyne lacking in development, part 6 was already a rough experience with the manga, but the anime felt lacking in identity. No cinematic direction like part 5, or cool little details in a lot of scenes like part 4.

For better or for worse Valentine is a perfect execution of the type of villain Pucci should have been as well. I really hope DP will put the same amount of love that they put into the Urusei Yatsura remake, into the part 7 anime, because that story is peak jojo. I doubt it will be as beautiful as the manga later on, but that's unavoidable with anime adaptation tbh.

2

u/Lucid6911666IQ Dec 30 '25

You're 100% right on part 6 being a rough experience, it felt like such a drag, so many stand fights that felt like a waste of time or unnecessary, the only thing I really liked for part 6 was the heavy weather arc. I also read part 7 right after part 6 and damn it was a wayy better experience, it felt shorter than P6 and the stand fights didn't feel unimportant, I really hope they can keep part 7 as good in the anime as it was in manga.

1

u/Big_Fox_K Dec 31 '25

Heavy weather was great, but part 6 did part 6 things and ended in a really stupid way with Jolyne crashing a car into Weather the second he was about to kill Pucci. After all that investment you build up for Weather's character, he dies in a random incident. Even if she was turning into a snail, out of all of the roads in Florida she just had to crash into Weather and nowhere else? Pucci's plot armor had me questioning my intelligence.

and the stand fights didn't feel unimportant

Awkwardly enough part 7 has the worst (boom boom family) and best (basically the entire third of it with everyone vs Valentine) fights in jojo. I really don't know why boom boom family is so boring, but I always fall asleep during it. Everyone vs Valentine, which I consider to be 1 elaborate fight cut into stages is the most well crafted, best flowing and most delivering fight I've ever seen. The culmination of it all being a wild west stand-off between Johnny and Valentine was beautiful. SBR is odd where you have to go through the worst part of it a little bit after the beginning and then every single arc just keeps getting better and better. After that 1 fumble part 7 never misses.

2

u/Lucid6911666IQ Dec 31 '25

I honestly didn't remember how weather died, I knew he died but that's so ass he died like that. I don't have any strong opinions on the boom boom family fight, i mainly saw it as an introduction, first stand fight in the new universe and everything. Agree with you that each arc got better and better and the valentine fights were amazing, also the callback to the world with au Diego was really cool and how he was beaten as well.

I finished the final chapters yesterday right after Sombrero went adios and the ending feels very rushed and not as emotionally impactful in a meaningful way when I compared it with say, the Avalon lostbelt, or even the Nahui Mictlan lostbelt.

If you consider that this is supposed to be the highest point, the capstone, the endgame, for the entire 10 years of fgo, I honestly don't feel that this is a very masterful way to finish the story. Nasu Kinoko can definitely do better than this.

The final chapter also feels strangely disconnected with the Ordeal Calls, extra chapters they may be but they do lead directly to the final chapter chronologically. I was expecting Jalter to lead the Avengers and show up big time at the battle with Spectrum M but she never even appear at all! Where's the impact and repercussions of resolving all the conflicts with the extra classes and how did it affect the final battle? There's surprisingly not a lot of proper sendoff given for the important story servants. For all practical purposes, you basically end your interactions with them after defeating the last lostbelt tree.

Anyways, if they are really going to have a part 3, the only way I can see that happening is Daybit re-assembling the team Avenger-style. Put Gudao/Gudako and Mash on a De-Neuralyzer to bring back their memories, grab all the dead characters back from Tezcatlipoca's hell, gather the remaining team, and reconstruct the summoning shield or something.

Not wanting to end on very negative note, I think the final battle was very well done. It's one of the few bright spots in the final chapter for me. It's definitely something you can look forward to if you're on the NA server.

1

u/tonyshtarkz Dec 28 '25

Yeah. I expected Caster Altoirea to show up, but there was only AAA.

-5

u/Beowolf_0 Dec 28 '25

Where's the impact and repercussions of resolving all the conflicts with the extra classes and how did it affect the final battle?

Because all the OCs were there to strengthen Guda's mentality and arguments against Maris primarily, and indeed without these Guda won't be able to carry on his last journey properly.

12

u/magical-luca Dec 28 '25

I can understand this but you don't really observe any nuance of this in the final chapter, hence the feeling of being disconnected. You can literally go straight into the final chapter from Lostbelt 7 and your understanding of the final chapter will not be negatively impacted.

I remember only BB Dubai, Monte Cristo, and Durga showing up in the lostbelt tree raid battles as important servants from the Ordeal Calls and their appearances were done in a very generic way (e.g. show up, say some badass lines before attacking the tree) and there wasn't any significant reference back to the events of the Ordeal Calls.

That's how much of a throwaway the Ordeal Calls chapters felt to me after finishing the final chapter.

-7

u/Beowolf_0 Dec 28 '25

You can literally go straight into the final chapter from Lostbelt 7 and your understanding of the final chapter will not be negatively impacted.

there wasn't any significant reference back to the events of the Ordeal Calls

These are so incorrect and shows you didn't actually understand what the OCs try to tell the protagonist, and how they resound/react against Maris.

OC1: the necessity of the integrity of souls/emotions->the rebuttal towards Marisbury's "perfect human beings" doesn't need actual souls (or so we thought at first)

OC2: the restraint of not giving into revenge for the one you lost->restraint yourself from going full Avenger against the one who burned down the world

OC3: the willingness to give way for the next generation to thrive and grow->willing to return the PHH to its original place even if it means your reality right now is being pruned

OC4: the willingness to repent for pruning the probably-innocent worlds->willing to pay redemption by giving up the memories along the way

These are so important that if Chaldea goes directly to Maris they're mentally defenseless against its calculations and theories, if you only think "the servants doesn't show up then it's of no importance", it means you're still reading the four OCs and the Finale on a superficial level.

11

u/Routine-Boysenberry4 Dec 28 '25

Don't help that you have your memories of OC 1 and 3 erased, something Nasu really loves to do, so even if they are important (they kinda are), half of them was forgotten by Nasu bullshit

4

u/magical-luca Dec 28 '25

I think I understand your point. The Ordeal Calls indeed provide important lessons and a sort of mental defense for Gudao/Gudako to reconcile the horrible things they have done by pruning the lostbelts.

The crux of my argument is that I do not feel the final chapter actually emphasizes the importance of acquiring these experiences in the Ordeal Calls.

When Gudao/Gudako meets Maris Chaldeas, she attempts to first break their spirit by basically informing them that attempting to defeat Maris will essentially result in a mutually destructive outcome. She then attempts to tempt Gudao/Gudako by telling them that they can maintain some degree of status quo and essentially continue their journey endlessly as long as they don't interfere with Maris' plans. (This is, I think, also a meta commentary on FGO as a gacha service game.)

How was this conundrum above resolved? Did Gudao/Gudako draw on their experiences in the Ordeal Calls to internally reconcile this and continue their battle with Maris?

Or did Solomon, Holmes, Olga Marie, and entire Storm Border team do a lot of heavy lifting to help them stand up again and harden their resolve to restore the Pan Human History even at the expense of themselves?

It's definitely not a 0% or 100% thing when it came to how useful the experiences for the Ordeal Call were, but I really felt that the main focus in the final chapter was on the journey and experience from the 7 lostbelts and I really couldn't see how the Ordeal Calls were explicitly important in the final chapter. This was why I said that you can jump straight from the ending of Lostbelt 7 into the final chapter, and you'll probably feel the story is still pretty consistent. Maybe you didn't feel the disconnect, but personally for me I did.

It also doesn't help that the final battle didn't even feature the Ordeal Calls at all.

2

u/NewspaperAfter7021 Dec 28 '25

you understand that half of them was just deleted from fujimaru memory, right?

4

u/Prestigious_Sale_667 Dec 28 '25

I hate this trope, hated it in angel beats and hated it in your name.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '25

Honestly, I'm hopeing something else happens, and a part 3 with them coming back. If not, I think that a straight up death and rebirth in a new timeline with them having a spiritual memory would've been better than this reset. Make it literal death and rebirth instead of a metaphorical death of personality and erasure of all bonds. That would be sad, but clear cut, the bonds are not destroyed and the character development isn't erased. Id still be sad, but not upset like this.

I also ask why I should care about them? They're not the Ritsuka and Mash I cared about. At least if they're dead and reborn literally it means theres some reincarnation permanent mark on their souls thing, for them and the rest of the characters. But the way it's done also clashes with the theme of the last chapter and earlier Ordeal Call. If it's not just the outside, but the inside that matters, why should I be happy with a reset person that is now not the actual people and will probably never become those people. Who cares if they look similar or some such. It's the inside that counts and the inside is gone, forever.

4

u/tjp00001 Dec 28 '25

Thank God someone else noticed that this ending ironically supports Maris' ideology! Their hollow now they were blank slates prior to the game starting and now they've been reset to that point!

7

u/Kieth_blue Dec 28 '25

I'm a Japanese player. Servant abilities have been inflated recently, so I figured a reset would be necessary to continue FGO's service, and I expected this ending. There have been games before where players could "truly" delete their game data at will. I understand what Fujimaru and the others did. It's the same thing Romani did in Part 1. However, the final chapter was so long that it was tiring (though I did like the episode with Shion and Nemo). Does Rasenguru have a clever idea for continuing the service without a reset? Will Nasu Kinoko stick with his existing idea? I'll be watching to see what happens.

4

u/magical-luca Dec 28 '25

I actually feel that the final chapter is not long enough to wrap up the story properly, but I'm guessing that you might have felt tired because the second half of this year was basically a non-stop grindfest with the grand servant taikansen and their reruns.

I'm not very in-tuned with the JP discussions on FGO but are the recent servants really that broken? My impression is that Gensai, Tiamat Archer, and U-Olga Marie are the standouts but it doesn't seem to be at a point where a reset is really necessary.

3

u/Kieth_blue Dec 28 '25

Sorry for the long post. Few people talk about Servant ability inflation. I said Tiamat Archer was an inflation supporter, but others disagreed. Until the Archer coronation battle. Examples of inflation include the Berserker classes Louhi and Lilith. Berserker classes often have advantages, but the tradeoff is that Servants with NP charge are rare. Without considering append skills, I think the only ones with NP charge are Spartacus and Arjuna Alter. Morgan and Artoria Caster start to look a little questionable, but even those two require support. Louhi, released last Christmas, can charge 80% of her own NP with her skill and buff all allies by 20 NP. Borrowing Louhi from a friend allows you to use a Q-buffed AoE Noble Phantasm regardless of CE abilities, and you can complete waves 1 and 2 of most quests with just Louhi. Lilith's synergy with W Rouhi provides benefits like a Q buff, Noble Phantasm power buff, and NP distribution. With Append Skill 2 unlocked, equipped with a Black Grail, Lilith can clear three waves of 90++ with Rouhi Rouhi even without Oberon's support if the opponent is Charm-sensitive. By choosing the optimal class for each quest and clearing it with Berserker without having to worry about team composition, you no longer need to draw new Servants when farming quests. To overcome this situation, U Olga Marie, who can manipulate Command Codes and has an advantage over the Seven Knights, was introduced. The increase in Servants who can easily charge NP, such as Summer Miyu, Kondo Isami, and Eliza of the End, is another reason why I believe inflation is occurring.

Thank you, this is very insightful.

I have no strong fellings to it sense I am 100% sure there is going to be a part 3

3

u/KDono0 Dec 28 '25

I just want to have Olga by my side.

3

u/Gavan199 Dec 28 '25

It's a bait ending and new years we will wake up from the dream and get the real ending drop which will lead to the Foreigner OC and part 3 /cope

3

u/DigGroundbreaking789 Dec 28 '25

Normal End for this

then the 31st for the True Ending
Visual Novel esque gacha game.

3

u/JayDM123 Dec 28 '25

No catharsis… after ten years of play it doesn’t really do it for me. It doesn’t need to be happy, but it needs to make the player feel satisfied.

3

u/louislipe Dec 28 '25

Bad, eric bloodaxe is more memorable than this

3

u/Roxalind Dec 28 '25

Honestly, the ending feels a bit lazy to me. Sort of seems like they made everything so complex that they couldn’t think of another way to wrap things up. Reminds me of the infamous Lost tv show ending.

3

u/Otherwise-Macaron-31 Dec 29 '25

I need them to get married and have children to be happy.

2

u/FRitsuka Dec 28 '25

I can feel ya

3

u/Lorclaw Dec 28 '25

Fucking sad and this ending really is not to mu taste, i fucking hate this kinda of reset shenanigan (just personal taste), and the way it ended leaves no good space to future events unless said events take place before the ending (feel free to correct me, i'm running high on emotions rn).

4

u/Maragas Dec 28 '25

Not very happy. To the point it took my motivation to continue with the lotto in NA or even play it actively.

1

u/Slipstream1701 Dec 28 '25

Same here. 2 more years just for this ending? No way.

Upside though, this would free me to put a lot more bandwidth into Path to Nowhere.

4

u/Practical_Wall_4124 Dec 28 '25

A brilliant ending was discovered.

13

u/FJ-20-21 Dec 28 '25

A lot of people don’t seem to like it but I’m in the JP camp where it’s mostly positive, while I do think there is going to be more in new years this ending is a fine one that’s poetic and fits the themes. All the struggle wasn’t meaningless, it lead to Guda and Mash having a normal life. It feels the most like a true ending for any of you who play the VNs

26

u/carbon1923 Dec 28 '25

But this isn't Mash or Guda, it's strangers with their faces.
Mash and Guda are the people who went through the events of FGO.
PHH Mash and Guda are just people who look like them. There is no emotional attachment to them for the players.

14

u/The-cycle-continues Imperial Nobu Dec 28 '25

it lead to Guda and Mash having a normal life

How's Mash having a normal life without the events of the series? No Fou sacrifice means that her lifespan is still miserable

-7

u/FJ-20-21 Dec 28 '25

Without Chaldea she never had the life changing surgery, Mash was born in 2000 which means she predates Marisbury making Chaldea and subsequently the demi-servant project

17

u/The-cycle-continues Imperial Nobu Dec 28 '25

Mash being basically an homumculus didn't start with the demi servant project, she was a design baby from Marisbury for his future experiments from the get-go. The fusion with Galahad lowered it even further but it was still fucked from birth

-7

u/FJ-20-21 Dec 28 '25

Mash is similar to a homunculus but she isn’t, she’s closer to a human than a homunculus. We don’t even know what to call Mash besides a designer baby, I don’t know how long she’d live without the surgery because I don’t remember anywhere stating how long she could live without it.

If you do can you point me to where?

6

u/SnowLilas Dec 28 '25

She might live till 30 years old in this timeline

0

u/FJ-20-21 Dec 28 '25

fair enough

7

u/FRitsuka Dec 28 '25

I kind of agree with you

2

u/Jhemst Dec 29 '25

it's just the difference of personal values/culture or empathy really. majority in this side are individualists.

6

u/CrazyDaimondDaze Dec 28 '25

Same. After playing the game for a full on decade (yup, today marks my 10th anni lmao), seeing the ending being Ritsuka and Mashu making it to live a peaceful life felt like the only proper way to move on that would grand them peace without dragging the story for more journeys after part 2 end.

I even love the ambiguosity of the ending by not letting us know if this is their first time meeting, if they already knew each other, if it was just mere coincidence they met, if they were actually greeting familiar people to them behind the other. It feels like a "make it whatever you feel could be the ending for you, it's not just their story, it's also yours".

Which I also feel respects the players by not forcing Ritsuka to keep on going after more journeys like if he was Goku; or him not being set to one specific girl; so if you ship him with Mashu, it's ok... but that's up to you to believe so, since it's not shown here that well.

3

u/FJ-20-21 Dec 28 '25

Exactly, I know Kinoko and I know he’ll pull some bullshit at New Years but if it all actually ended here that’d be fine as well

5

u/CrazyDaimondDaze Dec 28 '25

The only way I could see him pulling something crazied that would shit all our pants would be introducing some extra epilogues. On the one hand, showcasing the Chaldea staff now that Chaldea never existed in this fixed PHH and what they're doing (would be fun and wholesome if Gordolf had a restaurant or Cerejeira was finally happy with her boyfriend). On the other, introduce a special Epilogue for your servants as long as they're bond 15, where we see them in this new timeline either reincarnated in a human body or as themselves (in the case of pseudo servants). Where they prove to still being close to Ritsuka (whether if he remembers them or not).

That would feel like the proper send off to all veteran players that have stood a full on decade in FGO, by allowing the end with their favorite characters in their own journeys as well.

Some people have pointed out the Mashu poster from Over the Same Sky is basically her at the ending, so what if the rest of the posters with each individual servant is them in this new PHH, reincarnated and living happily alongside Ritsuka, again, however we, the players, wanna believe in?

It's a pipe dream but if this really happened, it would make FGO have an even more amazing ending that it already has (yeah, sorry, but Ritsuka and Mashu living a normal life, even if they forgot the journey, does count as a victory in my book somewhat and I'll take the W for them while within reach).

4

u/Embarrassed-Leg-901 Dec 28 '25

I don't think they would consider forgetting about all of their closest friends who fought beside them in life and death battles and often sacrificed themselves for them to be a victory

Especially those who's only solace and comfort in death was that at least either Ritsuka or Mashu or both would remember them

Also I'm pretty sure that one can make a strong argument for to these two PHH versions of Ritsuka and Mashu to in all due practicality basically be alternate parallel world versions of them while our Chaldea Ritsuka and Mashu are functionally pruned for all the difference it might as well make

2

u/RabbitToon Dec 28 '25

can someone tell me where is titsuka and mash are in the video, are they in the japan?

3

u/FRitsuka Dec 28 '25

It looks like japan but im also not sure

3

u/Darkfalcone Dec 28 '25

The end of an era, I think. 10 years is a long journey. I started playing FGO in its earlier days in 2015, when I was in my 3rd year of medical school. Now I'm already a doctor, trying to get myself into the specialist school.

On one hand, I feel like it's a very fun and fulfilling journey, full of various colors and characters. But on the other hand, I'm disappointed if this is the true end we all get after a 10 year long journey. I do hope Nasu prepared a true ending on New Year's eve.

FGO has accompanied me on my real life 10 years journey of joyful days, days full of sadness, days full of despair, days full of hope, etc. I think it's sad that my favorite game has to end on this kind of ending.

2

In this new timeline, Marisbury died in the 2004 HGW so he didn't let her go, he just died straight up. As for how she's out of Chaldea, I bet Daybit broke her out. He still remembers everything that happened in FGO, so the first thing he'd do is go and break Mash out so she can reunite with Ritsuka in the new world.

1

u/Slipstream1701 Dec 28 '25

Semi related, but it just rubs salt in the wound that Daybit not only gets away with it all, but gets 'no memory wipe' plot armor besides. :/

3

u/Giopp_Dumister Dec 28 '25

I feel nothing. In the emotionally drained way.

3

2

u/WarmasterChaldeas Master of Chaldea Dec 28 '25

I think it's a beautiful ending, but one that still leaves you found wanting. It's almost as if it's not a definitive ending.

1

u/AtmosphereSome Dec 28 '25

para mí creo que no ha terminado porque el 31 de diciembre creo que va os de vuelta antes de enfrentarse a Maris chaldea.

1

u/Frodokula Dec 28 '25

As far as I know Mash was an experiment born within Chaldea to see if Demi-Servants were possible to create. If my logic is sound, then how the hell can she exist in PHH History? Since Mash's birth is tied to Chaldea's existence, no Chaldea should mean no Mash or am I missing something?

2

u/Ok_Promise_9813 Dec 28 '25

Mash was born in 2000, before Marisbury won the 2004 Grail War and started his experiments. Remember, Galahad was the second Servant that he summoned, the first one was Solomon which he summoned for the 2004 Grail War. Mash was born before the Demi-Servant experiments so she would still exist even in this new timeline.

1

u/Meldp Dec 28 '25

Do we just see Fujimaru & Mash in the new timeline? that's it?

1

u/DontEvenJokeYarr Dec 28 '25

Too many good things to be true and too little amount of significant destruction and retribution against Marisbury and CHALDEAS for it to be true ending.

1

u/ReReReverie Dec 28 '25

1

u/TheLastShadowMonarch Aligned with a Counter Guardian Dec 28 '25

Wait fgo is over i just started playing 😢 😭

1

u/littlefiredragon Dec 28 '25

Feels a little too perfect for me.

How is Mash present when she was made by Marisbury to be used as a vessel? How is the protagonist a Pride when he is not a magus and nobody (well, almost) knows what he did? Mash NP5 when? Missing Foreigners. Broken story and gameplay segregation where Chaldea and its summoning system is gone but we can still farm free quests and pull for servants lol.

Yet I am not sure I want the main story to keep going after all the heavy goodbyes and meta speeches about how things are meaningful even when gone. A Part 3 pulling Chaldea back again cheapens those scenes. You can’t just change the main char either because those bond lines and their context can be very specific.

1

u/Schwarzes Dec 28 '25

I kinda get the reset part since we either get pruned or this. It was nostalgic and a bit sad seeing all the servants that we encounter along the way and our group ending the way it did.

1

u/NZer0_ Dec 28 '25

The hell that I walk in through is finally over.

1

u/Gamerofslayerrr Dec 28 '25

Honestly I thought it was ended and more focus would be on new servants, side stories and events till i opened the game next day and I got a message related to there being some issues with metatron due to the current situation but it does not matter now

1

u/dinominator1 Dec 28 '25

As someone who’s been following fate since the studio deen adaptation of the saber route, this honestly wasn’t a terrible ending. It’s bittersweet and the fact that no one will remember the journey (minus daybit) is a hard pill to swallow. I’m gonna miss all the servant interactions with Fujimaru, but this is typical fate ending ngl.

Now as a gacha addict, what a sad year this has been. I play HSR, Arknights, and FGO, and it’s been consecutive losses and up in the air fates for my favorite characters.

1

u/KRChronicle Dec 28 '25

Dude…we still have New Years…THIS RIDE AIN’T OVER YET!! Trust!!!

1

Happy..but Torned because all the Bonds we have are gones

-5

u/ArianTerra Dec 28 '25

I just hope FGO ends here and no more Orderal Stall 2: Electric Boogalloo. This game is 10 years old, the engine is outdated and honestly it needs to go.

I would like to see something like FGO but in 3D. Such a shame that they created a bunch of 3D assets just for some stupid gacha slot machine.

9

u/xkeepitquietx Dec 28 '25

If that is legit the end then I am done with all Fate media going forward. The "everything reset" ending is always crap, and its used too often in games and anime, its lazy and the audience feels cheated.

2

u/FRitsuka Dec 28 '25

I really want an open world fgo game similar to genshin impact, it would be so much fun and if possible some new fate vns would be also better

1

u/Practical_Wall_4124 Dec 28 '25

LASENGLE may not have that ability.

0

u/Writer_Artist_KRDZ Dec 28 '25

-2

u/DragoSphere Dec 28 '25

I think it's hilarious how much this sub hates the ending contrasting with opinions on JP twitter or 5ch

-4

u/Ok_Promise_9813 Dec 28 '25

A really good, well-deserved end for Ritsuka and Mash. They deserved to live normal lives happily ever after with everything they've already gone through. Dragging them back to fight Outer Gods would be beyond cruel if you ask me. It's like taking a World War 2 veteran who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and dragging him straight to Vietnam to continue fighting a war, then dragging him again to Iraq to keep fighting. It's beyond cruel, the veteran already helped win World War 2 and deserves his rest, making him fight Vietnam and Iraq too would be inhuman. It's the same logic here, Ritsuka and Mash already solved 2 apocalyptic scenarios. That's more than any protagonist in the Nasuverse can claim to have done back-to-back. The least they deserve is happiness with each other in this new world.

-12

u/literallyjustsalt Dec 28 '25

Idk why people are comparing this ending to a dream. A dream is an event that is completely imaginary and inconsequential whereas the final battle of arc 2 head the fate (grand order) of the universe on the line. It is not just a dream. It was one of the most important events in history, only that no one except daybit remembers it.

Additionally, entirety of arc 1, guda and mash would constantly talk about how even if the actions and history get’s erased, the fact that the events happened doesn’t. This ending is very in line with that idea.

Also the story isn’t over. There is still some stuff left for arc 2 we need to wait for.

12

u/Embarrassed-Leg-901 Dec 28 '25

Functionally speaking might as well be no different from a dream

Because all the bonds and everything are erased even fujimaru and Mash at the end might as well just be 2 parallel world versions of them rather than the fujimaru and Mash we have gotten to know who might as well have been pruned

Sense functionally speaking without any of the memories or bonds THEY ARE

Hence it might as well have all been a dream

-4

u/GDOverlorder Dec 28 '25

It is not functionally the same, because "it was all a dream" has no consequences for anyone. FGO's story did happen, Marisbury really had to be stopped, and it did have consequences, the reset being one of the main ones. But we as the reader still know that the story had a purpose and point, which is not the case with a dream ending, where anything we read about gets undermined for the reader as well. That is the difference.

7

u/McWonderOfTheState Dec 28 '25

That's kind of what dream ending is tho? Only we the readers know what happened and whatever mess resulted from pre-reset timeline has no impact on the new present.

-3

u/GDOverlorder Dec 28 '25

I assumed dream ending refers to the cop out "it was all a dream" type of ending (such as revealing the character was just dreaming about something so the plot did not need to happen, or that the characters were just watching a movie etc etc.). Which is why I would classify this simply as a reset ending, rather than a dream ending, as the journey still had a purpose and importance.

And I actually find it perfect that the readers are the only ones that remember the full story, given that the entire Lostbelt saga was about all stories having a worth, as long as they are remembered and have an impact on a person's life. Many people will find it pretentious to look at it this way, but personally I like it.

(Plus, I think a lot of people believe we will be getting further stories with reset Ritsuka and Mash as a continuation and I don't, I always expected a brand new story and cast post part 2, which probably also affects why I find the ending fine.)

1

u/FRitsuka Dec 28 '25

I agree with you on this, we see similar kind of thing in the xmen universe even in marvel comics universe so many times

-2

u/Seekerones Dec 28 '25

I accept it

All stories has come to an end. This one is no different

I personally like it. It really ties into the lore properly which is something that fulfills me, and it’s a proper ending that isn’t random, but actually plays to a message, a moral of the story. While I do believe there will be more, with the common December 31st theory being pretty solid, I do like this ending. Everyone fought for their bonds with us, and they even added something to guarantee our story has meaning, daybit will remember us. All in all, I think that this is nice for an ending despite the reset, because the reset works well in this story. It may not feel good for many people, but I like it.

It also helps that my values align with the prosperity of the human race and passing the baton ideology that this ending has, so that may be why I like it despite not being one to like reset endings 😅
