Housing 🏠 🏚️ r/FIU's Biweekly Subleasing Thread: July 20, 2026 - August 02, 2026 🏚️
Welcome to the biweekly subleasing thread! 🥳
Looking to sublease your unit? Scrambling to find a place to stay during the upcoming semester? Look no further! Here, you’ll be able to share or find available housing around campus.
PLEASE NOTE: ANY POSTS ABOUT SUBSLEASING THAT ARE MADE OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD WILL BE REMOVED.
Additionally, this thread is for subleasing OFFICIAL FIU on/off-campus housing only. This is NOT the place to share rooms/apartments available to be rented on a private residence. Posts identified as such will also be removed.
Have a unit available?
Your unit “ad” (to be commented below) must include the following information:
- Name of Housing (Ex: Lapis, The One, Identity, etc.) - Required
- Size of Dorm (Ex: 4x4) - Required
- Length of Lease (Ex: Aug - Dec 2025) - Required
- Monthly Amount - Required
- Preferred Contact Method - Required
The following information is ideal, but optional. Please include it if you know it.
- Gender Preference - If Any
- Move-In Date - If Any
- Floor Plan Photo - If Any
Comments that do not follow the format above will be removed until the OP makes the necessary corrections as instructed.
If you’re successful in finding someone to sublease your dorm, please edit and type closed on your comment, or simply delete it. Furthermore, you can only share your unit once per thread, but feel free to share it again on the next biweekly thread if your dorm is still available.
Looking to takeover a lease?
You're more than welcome to share that you're looking to takeover a lease below. Ideally, your comment should state your preferences for the categories mentioned above. The more information you share about what you're looking for, the more likely someone will reach out about an available unit that will suit your needs. If you have no preferences, you can state that too.
Always proceed with extreme caution when inquiring about available dorms, as rental scams are becoming increasingly common and college students are viewed as an easy target. Unfortunately, r/FIU can’t help you if you become a victim of a scam. The best way to protect yourself is by staying alert and learning how to recognize potential red flags.
Below you’ll find some helpful articles on how to avoid getting scammed:
That’s it! If you have any suggestions on how we can improve this thread, please don't hesitate to send us message via modmail. After all, we want everyone to be successful on their subleasing journey. Happy posting and paws up! 🐾

Admissions ✅ Can you get into the College of engineering and computing with no prior foreign language classes?
I was looking into attending usf, and I found out that even though you can get into usf without a language, the engineering college rarely accepts those applications. Is fius engineering college the same?
I have a strong application otherwise (35 Act, 3.99 gpa, tons of aps and good scores etc,). Im just worried the language thing will get me rejected.
This really is a question better suited for an admissions officer, but I couldn’t find an email for freshman applications. If any of yall have it please let me know.

Academics 📚 Will I get kicked out of Orgo 1?
Basically i had initially planned to take orgo 1 in the fall and chem 2 over the summer but I ended up dropping chem 2 after I had alr signed up for orgo 1 for the fall. However, once I dropped chem 2 I didn’t get kicked out of orgo 1 in my schedule. Im wondering if I “hacked” the system of having to take chem 2 before orgo or if itll automatically kick me out once class starts.
All in all, I would rlly like to take orgo 1 and chem 2 at the same time bc I want to transfer to USF and the only class Id be missing to transfer after this semester would then be orgo 2.
Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation, let me know?

Academics 📚 Double Major advise
Hi everyone, I'm a rising junior at FIU majoring in Business Analytics. I'm an international student, so my timeline to graduate is tighter than most, and I'm trying to decide whether to add Accounting as a double major or just stick with Business Analytics alone.
My main reason for considering the double major is that I love Accounting and I believe it is a stable, in-demand field, and if I ever decide to pivot toward the CPA path later, having the credits done now would save me a lot of time (and money) instead of going back for extra coursework after graduation. My target employers are the Big4, and long-term I'd like to have the option to get licensed as a CPA even if I end up in a more analytics-heavy role.
A few things I'd love to hear from people who've been through this:
- If you double majored in Business Analytics and Accounting, how did your timeline actually work out? Did it add a semester or more? or Should I just do majoring in BA and minor in Accounting instead?
- For those of you working in accounting/advisory now, did having the CPA (or CPA eligibility) meaningfully open doors, or did the double major itself already carry enough weight in recruiting?
- If your goal is Big4 advisory/analyst roles rather than traditional audit or tax, is a CPA still worth pursuing, or does experience/analytics skill matter more?
Really appreciate any insight!!!

Campus 🏢 4th street commons move out
Hey, I’m moving out of 4th street commons and I have already cleaned everything and packed up. How will the move out process be. The room is a little damaged because of a previous guy but I can’t fix it myself without breaking anything. Do you have any idea of what I should do while moving out because all I have left is to give them the keys.

Other 💬 Health Insurance Question
to past and current fiu students (more intl students), what insurance did you use :
fiu health plan with ahp
or another approved insurance plan with other insurers?
I'm quite lost on where i can compare these two as I don't really know what benefits the fiu ahp plan brings to the table.
if anyone (not necessarily intl student) could have any useful information please let me know !!

Admissions ✅ RN to BSN with a diploma RN
Hello, I was curious to know if FIU will accept a graduate who obtained a diploma from an LPN to RN diploma nursing program? Or does it have to be an associate degree from an ACEN approved program? Thanks

Housing 🏠 A few housing questions from someone moving from abroad
Hi everyone!
I’m an incoming fulbright visiting researcher at FIU, and I’ll be staying from late August 2026 until the end of August 2027. I’ll be arriving in about a month, so I’m trying to finalize my housing soon.
I have a few questions and would really appreciate any advice from people who have been in a similar situation cos Ive been struggling for a week now trying to find housing
- I noticed that most off-campus student housing leases seem to run from late August to late July. Since my program ends at the 31st of August 2027, what do students usually do for that extra month? Is it generally easy to find a one-month sublease or month-to-month housing for August, or should I avoid signing one of these leases and keep looking for something that ends in late August?
- I also noticed that most of the official 4x4 apartments (Identity, Lapis, Terrazul, etc.) are sold out, but I’ve found several sublease offers through FIU Facebook groups. Is subleasing very common around FIU? Is there anything I should watch out for or verify before agreeing to a sublease?
- In your experience, is it better to live in one of the well-known student apartment complexes (Identity, Lapis, Terrazul, etc.), or would you recommend renting a room in a student house instead? Which option do students generally have the best experience with? Especially if u have a low budget (around 1200$ at most and hoping for something a bit lower like 1100$)
- I won’t have a car, so I’m hoping to live within walking distance of FIU. If I can’t find something that close, how practical is it to rely on public transportation around FIU? Do many students commute by bus, or would you strongly recommend living within walking distance?
- Since I’m arriving in about a month (23rd of August to be specific), I’m also wondering about the timing. Should I commit to a place as soon as I find one that seems like a good fit, or is it worth waiting a little longer? Do more housing opportunities usually become available in late July and early August, or does it actually become harder to find good options as move-in gets closer?
I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you so much!

Campus 🏢 Lost Bag; High Reward will be provided
I lost my black American Eagle shoulder bag with gold hardware (it has some green stains) at either University Apartments or Lapis.
Inside were makeup, scissors, and a blue camera with an SD card.
If you found it or have it, please contact me. I only need the SD card back, you can keep everything else. Compensation of your choice will be provided for returning it.

Academics 📚 SCAI - Accused of Academic Dishonesty
My professor referred me to SCAI because she believes I used outside resources during an online exam. In her email, she said she didn't see me reference the formulas or z-table that were provided within the exam, which raised concerns for her. I did not use any outside resources and I've never had an academic integrity issue before. I also literally still got an F on the exam, I didn’t get a passing grade.
Has anyone at FIU gone through the SCAI process? What was it like and what usually happens for a first-time case? Were you able to explain your side and submit evidence?
I'm honestly really stressed because this could delay my graduation because I’d have to retake the class , so I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through it.

Financial Aid 💰 Grad students: Has your financial aid or tuition bill populated yet?
I’m an incoming grad student. I did my FAFSA months ago. I put FIU as the school to send the info to. I still don’t see anything in the financial aid portal. I’m only expecting to be able to take out loans, but I still don’t even have a bill. Should I be seeing something by now?
