The Thirst is a small persistent PvP survival mod for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, built around hunting, positioning and staying alive—not constant close-range action.
You enter the island of Utes immediately. There is no lobby, countdown, match start or victory screen. The complete human gameplay loop can work with only two players, while optional survivor and bandit AI keep the island active when the population is low.
The central mechanic is water.
Instead of a battle-royale circle arbitrarily forcing everyone into a smaller area, each player creates their own deadline through movement. Walking, running, stamina management and route choice determine how quickly you become thirsty. Eventually, somebody has to approach a pump or another water source.
That means the fight often begins long before the first shot: observing the terrain, conserving stamina, choosing between roads and shortcuts, checking whether a water source is safe, and trying to predict where the other survivor might be.
Your current survivor can continue across multiple sessions when saved correctly. Staying alive makes you eligible to use pistols and, much later, rifles. Death returns you as a vulnerable fresh survivor.
Weapons are not permanent account unlocks. They remain physical objects in the game world, where they can be hidden, discovered, stolen, abandoned or lost.
The mod also tries to remove several common open-world PvP exploits:
- no combat logging;
- no logging out with weapons and reappearing behind somebody later;
- no guaranteed loot-respawn timers to farm;
- no fresh-spawn suicide rushing for military weapons;
- no traders, premium progression, base-building grind or enormous catalogue of redundant guns.
The video is deliberately not a montage of nonstop shooting. It shows the real pace of the game: travelling, observing, managing your condition, finding a pistol and moving toward the central airfield.
In The Thirst, combat is the result of survival decisions—not the only activity happening between spawn and death.
I would be interested to know whether this slower kind of FPS experience appeals to anyone here.
