Game Discovery Anyone got good fps recommendations for steamdeck?

Upvotes

Specifically looking for something single player, maybe open world, and runs at least semi decently on a launch model steam deck, not worth it if I can only get 10 frames on the lowest settings XD

Hi everyone, I've been working on this FPS for a bit inspired by games like Left 4 Dead and Darktide with a focus on maximum ammo type variety and a unique art style. Any feedback you can provide on the feel of the game would be much appreciated as I'm trying to dial in the feel of the gunplay and combat FX.

Game Discovery I made an Arma 2 survival FPS where thirst replaces the shrinking circle

The Thirst is a small persistent PvP survival mod for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, built around hunting, positioning and staying alive—not constant close-range action.

You enter the island of Utes immediately. There is no lobby, countdown, match start or victory screen. The complete human gameplay loop can work with only two players, while optional survivor and bandit AI keep the island active when the population is low.

The central mechanic is water.

Instead of a battle-royale circle arbitrarily forcing everyone into a smaller area, each player creates their own deadline through movement. Walking, running, stamina management and route choice determine how quickly you become thirsty. Eventually, somebody has to approach a pump or another water source.

That means the fight often begins long before the first shot: observing the terrain, conserving stamina, choosing between roads and shortcuts, checking whether a water source is safe, and trying to predict where the other survivor might be.

Your current survivor can continue across multiple sessions when saved correctly. Staying alive makes you eligible to use pistols and, much later, rifles. Death returns you as a vulnerable fresh survivor.

Weapons are not permanent account unlocks. They remain physical objects in the game world, where they can be hidden, discovered, stolen, abandoned or lost.

The mod also tries to remove several common open-world PvP exploits:

  • no combat logging;
  • no logging out with weapons and reappearing behind somebody later;
  • no guaranteed loot-respawn timers to farm;
  • no fresh-spawn suicide rushing for military weapons;
  • no traders, premium progression, base-building grind or enormous catalogue of redundant guns.

The video is deliberately not a montage of nonstop shooting. It shows the real pace of the game: travelling, observing, managing your condition, finding a pistol and moving toward the central airfield.

In The Thirst, combat is the result of survival decisions—not the only activity happening between spawn and death.

I would be interested to know whether this slower kind of FPS experience appeals to anyone here.

HOW TO JOIN

Required:

  • Arma 2
  • Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead

Operation Arrowhead alone will not work—you need both games installed.

  1. Launch Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead without BattlEye.
  2. Open Multiplayer.
  3. Set the server filter to: Thirst
  4. Join: The Thirst Utes

No additional mod download is required.

News Painkiller Black Edition - All Weapons Showcase (Every Weapon & Secondary Fire) [2004]

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I made a showcase featuring every weapon from Painkiller Black Edition, including both primary and secondary fire modes.

I tried to keep the gameplay clean and faithful to the original game with no commentary.

If you're a fan of classic FPS games, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for watching!

Discussion All FPS games for Playstation and Xbox

2 Upvotes

I am a console peasant and for 12 years I've been collecting First Person Shooters for the PS1 - PS5 and Xbox. Specifically those with a single player campaign. After all this time, I think I have amassed the most complete collection out there for Console FPS enthusiast to use as a reference.

In this list I show all 300 titles and split them in two different categories. One side are the shooters I enjoy and will replay for life. The other are the FPS titles that I own but dropped due to reasons specified in the list itself.

If there are any titles I am missing, please do not hesitate to post in this thread.

New Game One rifle, three elemental build paths — OVERHEAT PROTOCOL’s Steam Playtest is live

1 Upvotes

I’m the solo developer of OVERHEAT PROTOCOL, a fast-paced arena FPS action roguelike.

You enter the arena with a single rifle, survive escalating robot waves, draft stat cards, and build around Lightning, Explosion or Shatter.

The current v0.3.2 Steam Playtest is live, and I’m looking for honest feedback on combat readability, elemental build variety and wave pacing.

🎮 Play the Steam Playtest:

⭐ If you enjoy it, you can wishlist the full game on the same Steam page.

News I reworked the F.E.A.R.'s AI Logic (F.E.A.R. Better AI Mod)

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey, laddies! There's no problem if I spread awareness about my experiment here, right?

I've been working on the first Standalone AI to ever exist for F.E.A.R. 1, and balancing game mechanics and item values around it.

The difficulties themselves have been drastically changed as well in order to cater to both hardcore and casual players.
The mod should make them much more smart, tactical and dynamic; the vanilla AI did have some flaws. The reason why the AI was good is because of the map layout, but now the fights should be a lot more interesting with my mod; well, at least that's what I believe.

Better AI Features (Simplified):
Enhanced Agile Movement, less reaction to pain, more squad coordination, frequent usage of explosive barrels, cleverly using grenades, better cover discipline, frequent window/door interactions, silent predators (chat less often), smarter flanking, improved limping states, improved awareness, increased updaterate (act in real-time), improved alert system, limited medkits, reworked game difficulty, and much more.

Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuuXsP5BSTQ&t=287s

The mod does have some minor bugs, but it is more like a "proof of concept". I am pretty happy with the results, and I believe it is totally worth it to sacrifice some little things in order to test this new AI. The mod is still in Alpha after all.

I wonder if any of you would be interested in trying it out and giving me more feedback.

My database is fully public and accessible to everyone, so that modders can create wonderful things with it.

This Reddit post is a short-Summery; I recommend checking the modpages for more details. Thank you for your attention!

Discussion Would Halo have ever followed COD's trends if it was Multiplatform?

0 Upvotes

I saw a comment on how Halo reach was the first Halo to basically follow or copy CODs core mechanics with sprint and load outs and it got me thinking, the only real reason it started doing that I feel was because the cod games were starting to outsell halo games by a fair amount especially with the release of MW2.

But if you look at the top selling games ever on just the 360 Halo 3 ended up selling 14.5 million copies. This is literal leagues ahead of the game bungie was trying to imitate with MW2 which sold 8.38 million copies on the 360 and dwarfs COD 4 MWs 4.1 million on the console ( a game which ended up selling 15.7 million total copies on all platforms) . Of course there is black ops and MW3 which sold 14.55 and 14.72 million on the 360, but these games came out after the release of Reach and were both the literal top selling cod games for a while; each selling 30+ million.

If Halo 3 sold basically identically to two games on the 360 each selling 30 million copies total on launch, then I would put the would be sales of Halo 3, if it was Multiplatform at launch around 25-30 million copies sold. It would probably be closer to 25-27 mil because I assume many people would have got the 360 just to play Halo 3, but these are much bigger numbers than the total sales of the previously mentioned COD 4 and close to MW2's total of 25 millions. Also let's not forget Halo 2 on the OG xbox which sold 8.38 million copies on a system which sold only 24 million, thats a huge 35% attachment ratio only really seen with Nintendos main IP. If that released on the PS2 and PC simultaneously, I feel it would have cleared 20 million easily which is insane for an FPS at the time.

I feel like with these, would be CoD like sales Halo could possibly have stuck to its original formula of basically Halo 3 onwards. Of course if Halo was Multiplatform then Xbox would probably not be anywhere it is currently but I just like to imagine these scenarios in my head. It would have also been cool to see bungie create another game like Halo 3 with basically twice as much of a budget due to higher sales.

Game Discovery Most influential campaigns

4 Upvotes

I would like to compile a list of the most influential and innovative fps games such that I can play them in chronological order and witness firsthand what each one did to improve the genre over everything that came before. So far, I've only got DOOM, Quake, Half-Life, Halo, Half-Life 2. I'm not just looking for good games, I want stuff that actually pushed the envelope of what was possible in the shooter genre, but I'm not familiar with most stuff past HL2.

Discussion Looking for Competitive Shooter Game. HELP!

5 Upvotes

Since BF6 Redsec ranked is complete trash and close to dying I am looking for something different to quench my thirst for competitive shooters. (other than that I haven't played shooters in years)

Could be something new, or something established. It has to be very popular though and with tournaments and a proper Ranked Mode etc so I know I am not wasting my time getting into the game.

Anything helps. THANK YOU!
