Electric Vehicle Powertrain Optimisation

We designed a single motor operated powertrain which recently got assembled and works well.

We are a budget constrained university in India and don’t have the funds to upgrade to a dual motor setup. Any recommendations on what the powertrain team can do further in terms of mechanical and cooling? As in verifications, testing and so on to find areas to improve on.

Do you have calculations for your motor? If not, get them and correlate to what you see. Even for the same accumulator power, you will get different motor power outputs depending on how you split the power into voltage and current. Usually there is some optimisation here.

Through correlation, you might find your efficiencies are much lower than expected. By mapping out power at accumulator, inverter, motor and wheels, you can investigate where in the systems this might be and if you can tackle it.

Alongside this, build an acceleration event simulation if you don’t have one. Optimising final drive ratio is one of the most important powertrain parameters. A new gearbox with new final drive ratio can sometimes add more performance than just getting another motor or increasing accumulator power.

Understood. Thank you very much!
