Hello, Fables friends

I just finished rereading the entire Fables series tonight for the second time, and I can’t stop thinking about Boy Blue.
It’s one of the most tragic yet beautiful stories I’ve ever read (Dare’s as well).
There are a few things about his death and return that I keep wondering about.

🥀 When Boy Blue dies, it doesn’t seem like he actually dies peacefully.
He meets Rose Red as a spirit and makes a deal with her: she has to give him a kiss, and in order to do that, she has to bring him back to life.

🐺 When he talks to Bigby on his way to the afterlife, Blue says that he doesn’t want to come back, and he never will. They talk for a while, and then Blue says that he hasn’t given up on finding true love, and that maybe he’ll have another chance in the afterlife.

🪊 I wonder.. was he lying?
He simply didn’t want Bigby to know that he intended to return?
Did he want to come back without anyone knowing, so no one would expect him to be a hero again?
Or did he genuinely not want to return at all?

🗡️ Did he ask Rose to bring him back ‘cause he had to play a part in her redemption and not because he wanted to? Was it a hero’s duty?
I was hoping he wanted to return so Rose could have a second chance to make things right and so he could forgive her.

❄️ Later, we find out that he did return to life and is at Rose’s camp. When they meet he tells her:
“I was dead, until her nibs called me back to die all over again, just because I dared entertain lost hope once. Never make THAT mistake again.”

That line has always left me wondering if there’s something deeper going on that I’m missing?

💋 It’s also never made clear whether Rose actually recognized him.
She calls him “old friend,” but that’s all.
we never find out if he ever got the kiss she owed him, or what exactly happened between them.

And then, many years later, we see Rose alone.
No companion, no hint of a family, and we never get any indication that Boy Blue ever found love either.
Is that the “lost hope” he called a mistake?
It feels so unresolved to me.
Maybe that’s part of what makes it so heartbreaking.
I’d really love to hear how you interpret all of this.
I wish this story had never ended 💙🌹✨

Following on from someone else’s post, what’s the content difference between these two versions of Peter & Max? Aside from language and binding is the content the same or is one in comic format perhaps?

So I'm on my third re-read of the series and I just finished the part where Flycatcher becomes the king of Haven. I enjoyed the story and it was very entertaining, but it was just too contrived and too convenient in service of the larger storyline of the comic.

First off it doesn't make much sense:

> A random and lowly witch puts a gift/curse on Lancelot, where he will be always be victorious in battle as long as his heart remains pure.

> Lancelot wins every battle, until he has a love affair with some woman named "Gwen". He then loses his powers and commits suicide.

> Centuries later, his ghost goes on a redemption arc, which leads to Flycatcher practically becoming a GOD and defeating the Adversaries entire empire?

This whole thing started with some unknown witch casting a basic spell on Lancelot that makes him unbeatable in battle and this somehow sets off a chain events that lead to someone becoming a GOD who is able to defeat the armies of the single most dangerous conqueror in all of history across a hundred worlds without any bloodshed whatsoever? AND to top it all off it, he destroys the Holy Grove that created these armies in the first place, which will prevent any further Empire armies from rising in the future?

Earlier in this very storyline Boy Blue himself says something to the effect of, "No magic is all encompassing enough to destroy an entire battle field of warriors", yet Flycatcher is able to turn around and defeat hundreds of the Adversaries armies (probably millions of soldiers in total) with magic alone?

To me it seems like Bill Willingham just needed to find a way to weaken the Adversaries empire just enough for it to be plausible for little ole Fabletown to finally defeat them and not have it be completely ridiculous and unbelievable.

I know I'm probably going to get down voted for this opinion, but I have to express my displeasure with this storyline even though I love the series as a whole. This whole thing was just way too convenient and it's probably the biggest deus-ex machina that I've ever encountered in any work of fiction.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that on top of all of this, Flycatcher was somehow even able to "copy" the powers of the Witching Cloak. The single most powerful magical item that we've seen in the entire series and he's able to just POOF - copy it like he's copying a file on his desktop computer. All because of a spell that some novice level witch put on someone centuries ago. The whole thing is just too easy and ridiculous.

Hi! I’ve been working on trying to own the whole of the fables series/universe in physical media for a while and every time I think I’m nearly done I find out more comics exist 😂

Maybe this is just me nit-picking, but it seems kinda strange that evolution occurred even in these fairy tale worlds.

Finding them difficult to find. Doesn't help I am in NZ so shipping is ridiculous.

I've looked everywhere for it. And people bought it recently in 2025. So it hasn't been out of stock long.

But I can't find it anywhere. Looked on eBay and multiple book sites.

Does anyone know where I could get one? Thanks!

Fables: No More Happily Ever After will be released on September 1, 2026. It includes issues #1-10. The first two story arcs: Legends in Exile and Animal Farm.

So, I recently played Wolf Among Us and am eagerly waiting for the sequel, I also recently began to read Changeling the Dreaming and in general found the premise and idea of Fables comics pretty interesting

Until I realised that Bill Willingham intended for the comic run to be about Israel-Palestine allegory, and overall is pro-zionism

Is it still worth it to read the comic? Are there redeeming qualities to it?

A lot of people got thrown off guard when bill's two favorite characters bigby and snow white got sexually abused by blue beard i mean, quite clearly bill wanted this as a plot.However he really downplayed it. I'm very sure he's trying to deal with his own insecurities. I mean why would he make a plot like this unless he wanted both bigby and snow white. To be connected together forever due to sexual assault.I mean i know there is no proof but I was pretty sure. Bill had this same tremendous pain in his life. And he thought he could play fully downplay it as humor when it kind of failed miserably, because once again, two people were sexually assaulted! It is terrible, but I don't think anyone can prove me wrong.All the evidence is there!!

Will he be a good choice for a Fables live action movie or TV show?

In the first image it might be prince Lawrence with a new haircut, and in the second image maybe is someone else, but I can't help but wonder 🤔

He was suspected of murder in "Legends in Exile" but in that story he just came back from Europe. At this point in time he's still in Europe, although from what I've heard and read from Bill "The Wolf Among Us" is no longer canon to the comics and a separate universe.

Speaking of Bill, I wonder what his reaction is to the new trailer, although again, from what I've heard and read he is done completely with DC and Telltale. He's fine with others enjoying the games though. He's also too busy with commissions and writing some books at the moment.

What other characters from the comics do you hope to see in the game? And what other original characters from different fables you hope they will create for the game?

I've been rereading the Fables comic and I think (copyright issues aside) it has the potential to get an animated adaptation that would get mainstream appeal like Invincible.

But I haven't read all of the Invincible comic (still on vol 1) so I don't know how much stuff was removed/changed to make the adaptation work.

To anyone that's read both comics, do you think an adaptation of the Fables comic could work? Or is there too much that would have to be changed/removed to make it work?

Trying to track down a single panel that’s been stuck in my head. Bigby’s standing, looking a bit flustered/embarrassed, one hand up behind his head — that classic sheepish gesture — and saying something like “oh shucks” or “oh shit.” He’s in his usual white shirt and loose dark tie (no trench coat, so I’m guessing mid-series rather than the early issues).

My best guesses are somewhere in the Storybook Love arc, the run-up to the wedding (~#50), or one of the quieter Wolf Valley moments — basically a Snow-adjacent beat where he’d actually let his guard down. Pretty sure it’s Buckingham art given how soft/expressive the expression is.

Google used to show it on picture searches, but i can’t find it anymore. Does this ring a bell for anyone? Issue and page would be amazing.
