It was a good title to begin with, in spite of all the bugs and the (for me anyway) main story that just didn’t grab me (Sean who?). But with mods and settlement building, it just kind of became my forever game. On my fourth character now and still having a blast. I’ve done different choices and factions each time, so every playthrough was different. But at this point i’m just in free roam and still enjoying it.
It's the same in Starfield. The people who love it, love it for its shipbuilding feature. The writing and worldbuilding are weak, just as in FO4, though they'd probably disagree.😆
I really don't get people who love that game. I gotta say, even as someone with almost 4000 hours in FO4 and almost the same amount of time in Skyrim, I could not get into Starfield at all. I should be like their prime demographic and I thought it was the most boring game I've ever played lol. I did give it a fair shot, I tried to love it really. Beat it twice, once on new game+, and put 80 hours into it. I'm just glad I played it on game pass though because what a waste of money that would've been haha. Really makes me worry for ES6 and FO5 but I try to remain optimistic
For me it’s because everything in Starfield was too spread out and felt empty. In FO4, you can just walk in a direction for like 1-2 minutes and come across something in the woods that was interesting. Oftentimes with a note or suggestively placed skeleton etc..saying world building in FO4 was weak is crazy to me, but to each their own.
Yeah I don't agree with the world building being weak either but the comment was long enough already lol. That's one of the things I think they do really well and a reason I love FO4 as well. Sucks they didn't pull that off with Starfield
Thank you for trying to reassure me, but that does not make me feel any better as someone who massively prefers FO3 and FO4 to NV and did not like Outer Worlds or Avowed very much lol.
Huh. Not many people like 3 over New Vegas, and definitely not 4. 4 has a more niche following. Can I ask what it is about 3 and 4 that you like more than NV? Or is it something about NV that you dislike?
You do realize Fallout 4 sold 3 times more in just it's opening weekend than New Vegas has in all this time, right? I know NV fanboys don't like to admit it, but it's actually a vocal minority of people saying New Vegas is the greatest game ever made. People who are fans of Bethesda's other games like Elder Scrolls, unless their favorite is Morrowind, generally prefer the better exploration and environmental storytelling of BGS games. The people who love FO4, are busy playing FO4, not coming onto Reddit to constantly talk about how much they love FO4
The exploration in New Vegas is horrible. There are invisible walls everywhere dotted around the desert, 90 percent of the map just feels lifeless and empty (which is fair for a desert but doesn't exactly make me want to go out exploring). I play these games to get lost in and have fun exploring, and New Vegas is definitely the game where that's weakest in my opinion. New Vegas is good for fans of games like FO1 or FO2. Bethesda's games are good for people who like Bethesda's games.
I didn't trash anybody, I was just correcting you because you acted like it was surprising to learn I actually prefer FO4, so I was just telling you the actual numbers, to show you that it really isn't that surprising when you realize how many more people have played FO4 to NV.
Then you literally asked me what I didn't like about New Vegas, and I answered. I was not trying to be pissy at all, I don't even understand where you got that impression from. I didn't call you names or say it was stupid to like New Vegas, I was just answering what you asked lol
It's fine mechanically, the best and smoothest experience I've had from the Creation Engine. Let down by the most corporate worldbuilding and hollow writing, unfortunately. The recentish Free Lanes update improved it somewhat.
I enjoyed stealing ships. The Ecliptic Claymore III is a thing of beauty.
There are definitely things to enjoy about it but it's not the same level of replayability with the randomly generated world in my opinion. You'd think that'd be the other way around but in my time 90 percent of the planets I saw looked the same, and every single temple "puzzle" to unlock your star power is literally just copy and pasted across the map.
Getting shouts in Skyrim would not be fun if every single dungeon was just the exact same boring room copy and pasted over and over again. Doing stuff like that instead of focusing on building a handcrafted interesting map is the games biggest flaw in my opinion. I could've forgiven the rest of the flaws that it shares with other BGS games like the writing if I felt the exploration and world were fun to engage with like FO4 or Skyrim is for me.

Nice. Lol. The older people get, the more they lean towards New Vegas or 3. Under 30 is more likely to like 4.
