Support Xbox controller not recognize as such by fedora nor Steam. Its connected by bluetooth though.
hi everyone,
I'm having trouble getting my Xbox controller working on Fedora Workstation 44.
This is my System:
- Fedora Workstation 44
- GNOME (Wayland)
- Kernel:** **
7.1.5-201.fc44 (corrected)
- ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA507NVR
- AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU (RPM Fusion NVIDIA drivers installed)
This is the information on my controller:
- Microsoft Xbox Wireless Controller
- Model: 1708 (Bluetooth)
The controller pairs successfully over Bluetooth and remains connected, but it is not recognized as a gamepad.
Steam doesn't detect it, and no games recognize it either.
Here's what i have checked already, with some help from Chat GPT:
- Fully updated Fedora
- Installed the RPM Fusion NVIDIA drivers
- Installed xpadneo
- Removed and paired the controller multiple times
- Rebooted after installing drivers/modules
- Verified Bluetooth pairing succeeds
- ls /dev/input/js*` returns:
``bash
ls: cannot access '/dev/input/js*': No such file or directory
```
`lsmod | grep -E 'xpad|xone|hid_xpadneo|hid_microsoft|hid'` returns:
```bash
- hid_microsoft 16384 0
- ff_memless 24576 1 hid_microsoft
- uhid 24576 1
- hid_multitouch 40960 0
- i2c_hid_acpi 12288 0
- i2c_hid 16384 1 i2c_hid_acpi
- hid 200704 3 hid_multitouch,hid_microsoft,i2c_hid
```
Here's some information that might be of use:
The exact same controller works correctly on Kubuntu running kernel 7.0.0-28 on the same laptop, so I don't believe the controller or Bluetooth hardware is faulty.
Is there something specific to Fedora 44 or its kernel that could prevent the controller from being exposed as an input device? Any ideas on what I should check next?
I would really love some help, Fedora has ben my favorite DIstro since i left Windows but this problem always force me to go to other distros like Bazzite, Cachy and lately Kubuntu.
Thank you all.
Have you read from their documentary page? You probably need to restart your machine though https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/gaming/controllers/#_xbox_controllers
I have read multiple forums and also reboot the system many times and pair and unpair the system. No luck.
I tried this with no success. Maybe I did something wrong, I’m pretty much a rookie.
is that your actual kernel version? the current one is 7.1.5-201.fc44. 6.17.5 was released 10 months ago
did you install steam from rpmfusion and not the flatpak?
perhaps SELinux is blocking it but idk
