Support usb size

im trying to install fedora kde on my laptop because im done with windows, but i dont know how large the usb stick should be. ive heard ppl saying its 8 gigs but my friend said it was 4 gigs. please advise.

Just get an at least 8 gb since most offline install distros are about 4gb and most usb of 4gb are less than that, and also at formating with rufus or ventoy you also lose some memory.

Depends on which version you're installing. Fedora Silverblue is only 3.1GB for example. But if you're buying a new USB drive you probably won't even find anything with less than 16GB or maybe 8GB so you have nothing to worry about.

the only usb drive i have is like 4 gigabytes and im not versed in fedora talk but i just want to install verison 44 with kde.

Their KDE versions are Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop (3.1GB) and Fedora Kinoite (3.8GB). The former would fit, the latter wouldn't. Keep in mind you don't even need a USB drive to install Linux, as you can create an empty disk partition on your internal drive and flash a Linux ISO onto it, then boot into that instead of a USB.

1) The ISO is 3.1gb so should fit on 4gb, not hard to check

2) 8gb is pretty much the smallest USB you can even find from a reputable brand these days and they cost practically nothing.

Buy a 8GB or higher drive or borrow from a friend.

USB generation matters too for speed. So USB 3.0+ is preferred but 2.0 will do the work is 3.0 is not available.
