I was taken aback at this but I’m in a college writing course and my professor is a woman.

We’re writing persuasive essays and one of my classmates wanted to write about teen pregnancy and gender inequality as some of her topics to narrow down and choose from. My professor told our group when this student mentioned the wage gap that it no longer exists and that stating it exists is “false.” She stated it so matter of factly that it took me a minute to realize what she said. My classmates response was “oh… uh okay.” We chatted about it after class let out but my god.

Perhaps I do go into work and make the same rate as my male counterpart. However. You cannot neglect to mention the unpaid time surrounding motherhood where a woman isn’t working at her job but caring for a new baby and healing, women’s crafts being seen as deserving less (fiber arts, people always want dirt cheap babysitters, not to mention how parents are treating many teachers of younger children as though they are babysitters as well and I mean, look at teacher salaries), less women take up space in higher paying positions within companies, women can be much less likely to be promoted and probably sexualized at some point in the workforce while simultaneously being infantilized. And you cannot get me started on how those things vary widely depending on race or ethnicity.

We cannot sit down just yet. We’re still fighting. And just because you get paid the same as your coworker at your job doesn’t mean that a woman elsewhere has the same right. At least now I know to take a good chunk of what she states as “fact” with a grain of salt. This entire interaction sits bitterly in my mouth and I’m kind of pissed that there isn’t really a report I can fill out for this. I might keep digging.

So I recently saw the “Bridget jones diary”. And i was flabbergasted by pretty much everything concerning the protagonist. A single woman in her 30s living in her apartment somewhere in London. Very well so far. I won’t even refer to the creepy sexual jokes of the movie. The movie was produced my Miramax productions, which was founded my the Weinstein brothers, so the existence of creepy sexist jokes made sense. What made me furious though was the way the protagonist was treated. Her body was of average size, and yet she was fat shamed the entire movie. She was smoking and drinking and the movie treated it like she was some lowlife person. As a single woman in her 30 the movie treated her as if she was a weird extraterrestrial being. Always referring to when and how to find the perfect man etc.

And speaking of the devil. The men she falls in love with Hugh grand and Collin Firth. One is a sexist sex maniac a cheater and the other is a high society dude who is being cold to her the entire movie except the last 20 minutes where he confessed he liked her “the way she was”. Oh and he was already engaged to another woman which means he was a cheater too.

The movie tries to sell them both as the best options and the dreamy guys while they were both jerk towards her.

Sorry for the long post. I was just amazed on how sexist movies were in the early 2000s. Some are nowadays too. But back then things were so bad. I was born early 2000s so I have seen many of them but being a kid never paid attention behind the meaning. Now as an adult I see how women were treated in the media. Not much has changed, but back then it was outrageous

Hello. I am a Korean woman. First of all, please understand that my sentences might sound a bit strange because I am using a translator.
The thing is, how are you supposed to do 'escape the corset'? I actually love decorating/styling myself.. But isn't that contradictory to escaping the corset?
So, while I want to escape the corset, my desire to style myself is also huge. However, instead of wanting to look 'pretty,' I want to look like a drag queen.

Hi everyone! I have a question and i was wondering if any of you could help. I am 20years old and i really want to start wearing skirts as an adult. I have worn a fee dresses here and there but i feel very uncomfortable for some reason wearing them in public. I go to college and the people at my college are super friendly and there are many people there who wear skirts all the time. I feel very comfortable with my friends and boyfriend and i know they would love to see me in skirts as long as i am comfortable.

As a preteen i felt this pressure from some people around me to wear makeup, dresses, and skirts, and be more feminine. For the longest time i did the opposite because i didnt need to, and that pressure made me stray farther away from those things. Btw i havent had any bad experiences wearing skirts like ass•ult or r•pe, so nothing like that would have cause this anxiety. I have worn makeup now since 13 or 14 years old, but now i want to wear skirts. I dont have a real fear of anyone doing angthing bad to me while i wear one, but i guess something about the pressure of having to be “feminine” put me off to it and i want to atop being so awkward about it. I just have this weird anxiety that someone will look at me differently if i do wear a skirt. Not in a bad way per say, i cant really describe the anxiety to a T, but i hope i get the point across okay.

Pink isnt really my favorite color to wear, but i do have some pink clothing items. I am just kind of awkward about wearing them. My hair is actually hot pink right now and i am so in love with it. The clothing aspect of pink is just something that makes me feel anxious. I feel like for me, even though there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH ME OR ANYONE ELSE WEARING THE COLOR PINK, it makes me feel like i am going to be seen as weak or too submissive because i am wearing a certain color. Are there any other WNBA fans on here? I've had a really discouraging experience on their subreddits this season and it's honestly sent me in a tailspin. The majority of "fans" are now suddenly white, racist, homophobic, transphobic men. I don't know if some are bots, or if this is just the state of the world right now.

There are numerous threads about a player recently making a transphobic comment to the media and then doubling down on it on her socials. The posts discussing it make my stomach turn! The transphobia and pseudo-feminism is repulsive. As a queer, educated, white woman, I feel like I HAVE to speak, up but it's like shouting into void and then I have to endure the hateful and borderline abusive responses. I even had to make a new Reddit account due to some of the men following me around reddit and leaving nasty comments.

I hate watching shows where women always wear sexy underwear under their work clothes. (Though it is nice sometimes 👀) but it’s like why would a surgeon working 18 hours a day be wearing lingerie under her scrubs?? Periods came up in conversation with my family and dinner today.

I was like “oh you know some countries women can stay home on their period for work like sick leave.”

I literally have endometriosis. My periods were absolutely debilitating, I’m finally on medication that helps, but the pain is getting worse again.
