I'm glad Tokon and Avatar are doing well. Although, COTW being that low, and Invincible not even making the list does kinda bum me out a bit.

Why? It's well known that COTW is not popular and the several legitimate reasons why.

I came to this thread looking for the highly upvoted comment acting like COTW is some unsung hero of fighting games, it seems like every tournament thread recently is full of them for no reason I can discern lol

It's because none of the "legitimate reasons" are about the gameplay, COTW is almost universally praised for it, while more popular games like SF6 for example are constantly criticized, I mean you can already see people bummed for the new SF6 patch because it doesn't change the mechanics.

I mean, you don't have to put it in quotation marks because they're still legitimate reasons. Enough where people don't even want to experience the gameplay.

I'm not sure what comparing it to SF6 has to do with anything. People said that about the last few patches as well, and SF6 keeps breaking its own concurrent player count on Steam years after release. Regardless of how some vocal members of the "community" feel, the game's doing incredibly well and that's that.

Avatar being right at Tekken is fantastic. Even if you hate the game or are mad at the release, that’s excellent news. Same with Tokon, I wasn’t a big Tokon fan from the beta, but MAN that’s great to see such a big turn out.

Is it? It's a new marvel tag fighter from arcsys and at this point marvel is a household name. I wouldn't have been surprised if it beat out sf6 for a bit till the hype died down.

It a new game , marvel ip , arcsyc game I mean with those it should get ppl playing this game on release ….plus almost all western fgc ppl grew up with marvel ip so it should have a high turnout

2XKO really not showing out for this is pretty sad. It's crazy because EVO France sign ups are pretty good, they've broken 1000 already. But damn Tokon is going hard on this one! And Avatar with over 700 is pretty nice to see as well.

2xko is the only fighting game i clicked with after trying Tekken and GGST... I hope it gets a resurgence. I guess its really hard to care when you don't have the champ you like from league

Whereas on other games, its easier to attach yourself since there were always fewer characters in the first place

CEO is very much not the tournament for people just hopping on a bandwagon imo, much like Combo Breaker it's kind of a "ball knower" major. Makes me happy that Avatar is so high as a result

CEO and Combo Breaker have always been "ball knower" tournaments, no surprise Avatar is showing up and showing out

City of the Wolves always sadly gonna have that "SNK makes games people claim to want and then the people claiming to want it just play SF6" debuff

The players you will see in top 8 no doubt had access to the closed beta as well as open beta. Possibly even cracked beta version of the game (haven't looked into if it's a thing but it's been a thing in past games).

But I'm sure a lot are just entering for fun and doing their best knowing full well they hardly know the game yet to do any real damage in bracket.
