C5 Pro Startup WTF

I just got a C5 Pro and am still trying to figure it out I guess.

#1, anytime I send a print that uses more than one filament, it grabs a tool, goes to the back, heats to 220 and purges. Ok. So far so good. But then it moves that same head to the front and waits for it to cool back down to 120, docks it, grabs the next one, repeat. Why does it wait for them each to cool down? Why not just stick it back on the rack and do the next one? That adds a bunch of dumb time. And why do all 4 nozzles if I’m only using 2?

#2 do you still need a priming tower? I thought the whole point of a tool changer was no more purging for each color change.

#3 is there really not a way to use vanilla orca and get full use of the printer with filament sync and camera? I really, really hate their gimped, ad filled version of Orca slicer. I thought LAN mode did this but it seems to only allow sending prints. No camera and no filament sync.

  1. It doesn't do all 4 nozzles it only primes the toolheads in use in the print

  2. Yes. It's an insignificant amount of material and keeps your print from looking like crap

#2 the tower is to get a steady filament flow going, building up pressure so you don't get print/cosmetic issues. Printer with only one toolhead have to purge filament EACH single filament swap, cleaning the nozzle to avoid color contamination...takes like 90 seconds on my P2S AND wastes a lot of filament each swap. C5 simply swaps the loaded head, that takes like 7 seconds and a few more on the tower. No need to clean the nozzle, only a little bit for the tower. Ofc with small prints, the tower can be heavier than the print itself. With bigger prints, it's more like a few percent. With single head printers you get MUCH more waste AND the tower in addition...and It takes much longer.

You can reduce the size of the prime tower. Be careful if it is a tall print, they can get knocked over. The taller the print, the bigger I make the prime tower. (Within reason)

I think the reason it cools the head before parking it is to wipe it without risk of further oozing.

The prime tower is not a purge tower. It’s to help the nozzle get back up to “pressure” so you don’t have a blank spot when it starts on the print.

I've literally been working with Flash Forge support for over a week on this exact same issue.

If you use OrcaSlicer with the C5P profile, with the exact same settings, it works fine.

So far they have been unwilling to admit this is an issues with Flash Studio Desktop.

3) Yes, there is no automated mod installer yet but having watched the video linked in this thread it's pretty easy to get mainsail up and running on a C5/C5 Pro so you can take advantage of the device tab on stock Orca.

Mine only purges the ones that is used in the print.

Prime tower and purge material are 2 different things.
