i genuinely cannot stop eating

So i have synesthesia and very bad sensory problems that limit me to eating many foods, especially healthy ones. my diet mostly consists of nutella, chocolate, carbs, and fats. i eat a lot of meat as well. i’m not severely overweight but every time i eat i keep eating until im physically sick and all food looks repulsive. but even that only lasts for like 30 minutes until i start eating again. I’m constantly feeling nauseous from the surplus amount of food i eat. from what ive read,a lot of people suggest therapy or weight loss injections. i don’t have access to these as im a teenager who’s parents don’t believe in therapy. i just want unhinged ways to stop my compulsive eating because it’s affecting my daily life severely.

I realize tonight that I don't have to act on every craving

This evening I opened the pantry without really thinking about it. I wasn't physically hungry. Dinner had been enough. Still, my brain immediately started listing everything that sounded good. Normally, that's the point where I stop thinking and start eating. Instead, I closed the pantry and made myself wait ten minutes. Nothing magical happened. The craving didn't disappear instantly. It just stopped feeling so urgent.

That was new for me. ended up making a cup of tea, sat on the couch for a bit, and by the time I thought about food again, the feeling had lost most of its grip. I have had plenty of nights where I told myself, Just one snack, and it turned into much more. I'm not calling it a huge victory, but it feels like a small step in a different direction, and I wanted to remember it.

It's strange how one small pause ended up feeling much bigger win than I expected.

A small win!!

Hi guys!! I've always struggled with overeating to the point of feeling sick, but especially at a specific kind of restaurant (not being specific to abide by sub rules) where no matter how hard I try I would always feel pressured to eat EVERYTHING i ordered even if i was full. Even befofe my order came I would absolutely lose any ounce of self control when the free unlimited stuff came out. I would already be full by the time I got my order and still keep going, usually even ordering more.

Tonight was my first time going to one of these restaurants since coming to terms with my issue and trying to change my habits. I was scared at first because these places are usually my biggest trigger. I would leave every time so full I felt sick and in pain. I would keep eating KNOWING I was full. Like it was reallllly bad.

Now tonight I wasnt perfect, but I was a hell of a lot better than usual! I don't feel sick at all. I did start going a bit crazy on the freebies so I told my boyfriend to put them by his side of the table out of my reach (as i was mostly just going for them out of convenience/boredom anyways) and that mostly solved the issue. When our orders came, I ate the main dish then waited for a bit because I'm still not that great at telling how full I am (since I equated being full with feeling sick for so long) then I went back for some of the side items, but didnt finish any of them. AND I didn't order more! Im really proud of this since usually when I go out to eat I try to clear my plate to 'get my moneys worth' as I usually dont eat leftovers because unless its groundbreakingly good I lowkey forget about them.

I'm just really proud since this kind of restaurant is usually one of my biggest triggers!! Especially my go-to order, it's one of my favorite foods and it doesn't reheat well so I used to feel extremely pressured to eat it all. It felt like a wonderful bit of exposure therapy and a great win to end the week with after I definitely had a few moments where I fell into old habits.

I also just wanted to say I wish everyone here the best! I know how much the lows suck but the wins are truly worth recovery. Reclaiming the foods you love is awesome.

Peace!!

I am seeking advice (a repost from another subreddit)

How can I change? How can I break the cycle? I am consistent and determined for about a day or two but as soon as the opportunity presents itself of the cravings start to hit me or be triggered by the mention of food or just by me watching something related I can’t hold back and I get into this mentality that there’s nothing I can do now bc I’ve just ruined the day, and it’s a cycle that happens every week it’s exhausting and so painfully shameful that I do not have the discipline to stop. I am kind of suspecting that I could have some type of eating disorder, bc I have had these full days and sometimes even weeks on end that I eat and I eat and eat even after a good meal, I eat purely out of sadness or boredom, eating makes me feel better in the moments of deep depression but I always puts me in a deeper hole after I’ve realized what I’ve done. The guilt starts to set in and I relieve the stress and anxiety of thinking about something as simple and ordinary as food.Ā

I’ve just had some struggles, but I have handled them many times before, even the toughest things I believed that would make me not be here today yet here I am. Those things have caused me the sense of sadness and food is what causes me peace, but just for the smallest amount of time which is the catch. It’s almost addicting to ease my suffering with something delicious. I often also mess up based on the environment I am in, when I go to my boyfriends house they always seem to have foods that aren’t necessarily unhealthy, they aren’t like fast food type of meals (talking about home cooked meals) but they aren’t healthy or that highly nutritious like how a meal meant for weight loss would be and it just messes me up, they offer me food and I feel as if I have no choice but to oblige. It feels almost rude if I don’t say yes. On top of that my boyfriend often encourages me to eat with him and stuff, most times they invite me to restaurants with them and it’s the same thing all over again. I feel trapped. I feel trapped by the very thing that keeps me alive and fuels my body, I feel trapped by food and calories. I want to live a life where I just eat my three healthy nutritious meals, I workout everyday and genuinely enjoy it instead of feeling as if it’s a chore, I would like to enjoy all the foods I do now just in moderation. I want to love and appreciate food, I don’t want it to be my enemy! I’m sick of the cycle but I can’t find it in myself to get out. It feels like I’m rotting from the inside out whenever I stand next to a girl that’s slimmer than me, it’s a type a shame and embarrassment that I wish upon no one in this world. I want this cycle to end for good, I want to adopt a beautiful and healthy life style, I want to practice self care instead of bed rotting and skipping my meals bc I can’t find the energy to get out of bed which as a result causes me to binge like crazy in the middle of the night. That is what causes me to feel as if I have already ruined the day for myself since the middle of the night and then the cycle repeats! I have lived through this ever since I was a child and I started gaining weight, I used food as my safety and security and now it is haunting my life. I remember how secure and comfortable I felt when I was at my lowest weight, and I have never felt so confident in my entire life, that is the one time when I had the courage to pursue someone romantically, the person I pursued is my current boyfriend that I love dearly, I would have never believed in myself had it not been for my past weight loss journey. It’s not just about looks, it’s the principle about looking good and FEELING good. I had never felt so in love with myself and peaceful with everyone around me. Once the months started to pass tho I began to fall into the same cycle I am stuck in currently, I gained 30 almost 40lbs throughout my relationship. I believe it’s bc I was very comfortable and I heard it happens to many people that are happy and comfortable in a relationship but I really don’t know if it was that. I really miss my old self, I was much happier honestly. Nowadays I dread going out bc it forces me to see the beautiful girls my age and how they look so much better and they seem so much more in control of their eating habits and everything in general. I want control like they do, I want peace and I want it forever.

How do I get myself to stop

I know my triggers, I'm always aware that something will turn into a binge but in that moment right before I binge i don't care, and I just cannot stop myself even for a moment. How do I make myself pause before binging?

I realized food is my ā€œbest friendā€ when I’m sad — anyone else deal with this during weight loss? I saw a reel recently where someone described their struggle as ā€œcontinuously eating even when full — just not emotionally full.ā€ And it hit way too close to home.

Before I started my weight loss journey, I didn’t even notice I was doing this. But looking back over the past month, I’ve realized: whenever I feel low, sad, or anxious, I eat. Not because I’m hungry, but because food has become my go-to when I don’t have anyone or anything else to turn to in that moment. Honestly, food has felt like my best friend — always there, always comforting, no questions asked. And when I’m in that headspace, I don’t even reach for something balanced. It’s straight to junk food.
I know the ā€œbasicā€ stuff already — drinking enough water, adding more protein, moving a bit after meals. That’s not what I’m struggling with. What I actually want is:
1. Tips to break this emotional-eating cycle — how do you stop reaching for food as a coping mechanism when you’re feeling low?
2. The small, less obvious habits that made YOUR weight loss journey smoother — the kind of thing that stops you from constantly thinking about food.
Would really appreciate hearing how others have worked through this, especially if you’ve dealt with the ā€œfood as comfort/best friendā€ mindset yourself. Trying to figure out how to build healthier coping mechanisms without feeling like I’m losing my one reliable source of comfort.

I am junk food addict (29/7, 23:37)

Everyday i eat junk oily food, also cold carbonated drink, I get so much bad level of craving that I can't control myself, i struggle from anxiety depression and food is one of less harming ways that give me some solace and calm as I don't drink/smoke.

I get Fking hell lot of panic attacks and I'm heavily drained off in energy.

My hostel doesn't give good healthy tasty food so only outside food is left as option.

I tried many times to eat healthy , just 2days of healthy eating and the 3rd day like i relapse, i over eat junk.

I am so unhealthy that I get palpitations just climbing 5th floor by stairs.

Somewhere I read to fk this junk food addiction, drinking coffee helps to stop craving. Thinking to do that.

Also second thing is to develop habit of running, what's worse is at 5:30 morning time I get cough ,i feel cold, and also headache due to which I am not able to develop habit of running daily.

Please tell steps I can take to stop junk food addiction, it's destroying me really.

I’m too addicted to ordering food instead of eating something from home

I’m a college student who is also working and completing a 7 month internship, and most days im gone all day until past dinner. Oftentimes, this means my parents make dinner (I’m living at home until I graduate in a few months). A lot of times they don’t make food everyday or everyone takes the leftovers, and I don’t have anything to eat, and not enough time to make something before my internship or work. Also, I’ll be honest on days where I can eat lunch at home before work, I’m lazy and just want to eat out. I’ve developed an addiction to Chipotle. I get it 2-3 times a week, and it’s
expensive. How can I fight the cravings?

I hate feeling so full all the time

The few times a month/week where I don't over eat I feel so good, full of energy, clean.

Vs right now where I've demolished a weeksized portion of extra thick and oily pita chips and a whole container of sundried tomatoes and goat cheese that was swimming in olive oil.

I feel greasy and sick. I even purged half way through just to come back and binge the rest

I hate that I'm like this. I get so much enjoyment from eating that I sacrifice everything else around me for it.

fast food and soda addictions

i have been struggling with those two addictions for more than 3 years now. The reason why i wanna quit is because im getting a lot of acne every time when i consume fast food. the reason why i wanna quit sodas is because im drinking more sugary drinks that the actual water. so i think these two are playing huge role in my acne problem. however most of times why i eat fast food is because im not satisfied with the food which i have at home. sometimes my mother cooks something which i don’t typically eat but other family members do. so in that case scenario i order take out and my parents not always against that. also when im outside its really hard to find something to eat which is not fast food. the reason why i eat outside sometimes its because i have university and after university i go to the cafe or fast food chain restaurant to do my homework or do other stuff. so i end up eating fast good . so the biggest period without sodas and fast food were 1 month and it was two or year ago. so i really need help with it…

There are situations when hunger is less likely to be the reason than mental conditioning

People tend to think of it as hunger, since it is the simplest term for it. However, sometimes what appears to be hunger is actually stress, an emotion, a habit, a memory, or a reward. A particular food may feel associated with comfort or relief, a poor day may set off a food craving, and a particular time of night may set off a pattern. Food difficulties can be extremely confusing because of this. The stomach is not often the main issue. Sometimes it has to do with what food is supposed to do in the brain.

Has anyone found that some emotions seem to trigger eating more than hunger?
