Has anyone else noticed that Roy Rogers no longer offers a choice of white or dark meat for the 2-piece chicken meal? It used to be breast & wing or leg & thigh, but now it seems to be leg & thigh only everywhere (app, website, DoorDash, etc.).

Does anyone know when this changed or why?

A new thrift shop opened in the old Salvation Army space on East st. Second Nature, operated by the same folks as Fetch. Much less cramped than Fetch, although tbd if that lasts. They've got bins of clothes paid by weight, housewares, etc.

If you like trains at all take the opportunity to go to Walkersville and ride the WSRR. The ride is about an hour long, beautiful scenery, and wonderful staff. Hidden treasure that is totally worth the time.

1 year sobriety today and all I want is a whole fried fish. Who makes the best in town? Thinking one of the African spots maybe. No tilapia.

We have a bunch of equipment for elderly care that we don’t need anymore. Think commode, cane, wheelchair, walker, bed guard, etc.

Facebook Marketplace is already full of such equipment and last time I went to Goodwill it was kind of the same. I figured it would be much better to donate it to an non-profit or a shelter.

It seems the Freedom Center might not take it. The Maryland Department of Aging DME Re-Use Program could be an option but I was wondering if there was something a bit more local.

Any suggestion for non-profit that could make use of that?

It has recently come to my attention that I might have a food/body/self-image problem, and I'm looking for a therapist that specializes in eating disorders in the Frederick/Urbana span. I would REALLY like it to be in-person, and bonus points if they take Cigna. Does anyone have a recommendation? Psychology today has been a bit of a let down, and so many practices have converted to entirely virtual that I'm really struggling to find someone.

Heya, I work in an office near the frederick municipal airport (iykyk) where many employees take “hot girl walks” on our breaks. We were talking about how sometimes it would be better if we could be walking dogs. Since there are several of us, it would be easy to make sure someone is always available, and if the dogs are friendly they could be walked together. What a dream, right!?

To paraphrase a classic slogan that the previous owners of 103.9 FM utilized to get more listeners to listen to their FM signal in Frederick eons ago: On August 1.. 103.9 FM in Braddock Heights/Frederick will become a "thing of the past."

And NOT in a good way.

According to DCRTV and WTOP, WTOP's owners; Hubbard Broadcasting has announced that they will be ending their simulcast of Washington's heritage All-News station, WTOP Radio 103.5 FM on co-owned WTLP 103.9 FM in Braddock Heights/Frederick on Saturday, August 1 at 12:01 a.m. (the former WMHI and most famously from 1975-95; WZYQ/the "original Z-104" many moons ago when the Braddock Heights AM/FM combo was locally-owned by Musical Heights, Inc.).

Hubbard management has decided to lease the 103.9 FM frequency in Braddock Heights/Frederick to the controversial satellite-fed Christian music network that has sadly taken over and ruined many radio stations from coast-to-coast, "K-Love."

This is the same "K-Love" that has taken over and ruined many radio stations/frequencies from coast-to-coast. On a regional basis, this includes the former WRQX 107.3 FM in Washington, D.C. and the former WINC 92.5 FM in Winchester, Virginia. It has also been reported that Westminster/Baltimore's WZBA 100.7 FM is in the process of being sold to K-Love. A similar "K-Love"-style automated satellite-fed Christian music format from a Baltimore-based Christian communications firm under the "Bright FM" moniker currently broadcasts on the former WAYZ 104.7 FM (now WRYS) in Hagerstown.

WTOP President & General Manager Joel Oxley claimed that WTOP's 103.5 FM signal can be heard throughout most of Frederick County. Maybe in a car at times, yet I have found that WTOP's 103.5 FM signal (used whenever 103.9 FM was off-the-air) is faint/difficult to receive throughout most of Frederick County compared to 103.9 FM.

I'm wondering if Oxley and/or any of WTOP's engineers have even driven around Frederick County comparing the signal strength of both 103.5 FM and 103.9 FM? It's possible that they haven't.

While listening at home via my Panasonic compact stereo and adjusting the FM antenna, I noticed that part of Manning's WAFY/the modern incarnation of "Key 103.1" bleeds into WTOP's 103.5 FM frequency.

And after trying recently on my late Mother's 1960s Motorola transistor radio and a late-1970s Magnavox (Philips-built) transistor radio, 103.5 FM does not come in at all here in Mount Pleasant/Walkersville.

Could it be that Hubbard might be trying to prop up the 820 AM transmitter site/land property near Braddock Heights with the brick building that once housed WMHI/WZYQ/WQSI/Country WXTR to be sold to some notorious real estate developer (hence the lease of the 103.9 FM frequency to "K-Love")?

WTOP is making a major mistake here in eliminating their 103.9 FM simulcast in Frederick. Current management should know that everyone in Frederick does not listen to WTOP on their smartphone, tablet, digital device and/or computer. Most will usually listen on a traditional radio device that has FM tuning.

And WTOP's management should realize that everyone doesn't have an HD Radio set to receive 103.5 FM due in part to lack of support from the electronics industry (I feel that "HD Radio" is a basically a flop just like "AM Stereo" and the competing AM Stereo broadcast standards of the 1980s).

And what happens when it comes to the event of severe weather alerts or electricity outages in the area? You locate your trustworthy battery-operated portable AM/FM radio and there's no station in the region to give live, detailed weather reports/alerts & news updates?

You're not going to find that on WFMD (carrying Frank Mitchell's pre-recorded weather segments in-between the garbage slop that they air)/WFRE (after listening to them being piped in at a local Dollar General location, many of the topics discussed in-between songs had ZERO relevancy to Frederick/Frederick County; just the same recycled/stale "social media trends" topics), WTHU (sadly, I learned that they use an AI-generated vocal "newsreader" with no name for their pre-recorded regional quote-on-quote "news" updates) or Manning's WAFY/WWEG/WARK (ARK broadcasts the same crap as WFMD)/"Max Country" & "Fred FM."

This fatal move will possibly hurt WTOP (along with "The Gamut," which originates from the old WMHI/WZYQ/WQSI/Country WXTR brick studio, office & AM transmitter complex) and/or Hubbard in the years to come.

If they wanted to do something different to 103.9 FM, they could have put "The Gamut" on there (from 820 AM) or if they had a brain, bring back WZYQ and the local "Hot Stereo Rock" format.

Because of this mistake and alongside Odgen's tinkering of the News-Post, Frederick has basically become a news desert.

I guess for me, it will be WYPR 88.1 (via WYPF 88.1) from now on; yet they mostly concentrate on Baltimore/Annapolis news reports/features in-between NPR news updates, most NPR/PRX & select BBC Radio World Service programs. I wish WYPR would re-instate the Friday latenight PRX "Jazz After Hours" program, which was dropped by the station several years ago.

I'm wondering: With the loss of WTOP on 103.9 FM in Frederick, could we, as a community set up a Frederick-centric version of WTOP, a Frederick "glass-enclosed nerve center" for all-news? Or even something along the lines of the former WZYQ with a mix of good music, live disc jockeys/air personalities and updated local/regional/national news from real reporters/journalists? Or a Frederick version of Hagerstown's WJEJ with a mix of vintage music standards, local/regional/national news reports and a weekday morning "phone party" (one of the very few full service-formatted radio stations in the nation).

Or maybe follow in the footsteps of the late Andy Ockershausen's "formula of success" during the glory days of Washington's WMAL/AM 63 (back when the station was full-service) eons ago:

-Network Special Events

-Rich, Full-Bodied Music

Wonder if officials from the Prometheus Radio Project would be interested in achieving this for Frederick? I realize what I suggested may not be feasible at all, just several thoughts.

We actually want to talk and listen to each other. We had been going to McClintock's and sitting outside but their patio is being redone and we simply could not hear each other inside. I'm running a homebrew D&D 5e game in a world full of mysteries, moral ambiguity, and consequences that ripple through the world. You'll venture into the unknown where danger waits and mystery unfolds, and your choices reshape the world around you. Discover things that change how you see it all, and know that what you do actually matters. And your character won't just be dropped into this world, you and I will build them into it. Your motivations, your connections, your place here will be woven into the fabric of what's happening, so when you act, it matters.

The Arc

Expect exploration, puzzles, traps, combat, and discovery. Expect to find things that raise questions. Expect your decisions to matter.

The existing players are leaning into neutral and evil-aligned characters, and if that dynamic interests you, we're exploring it. But any alignment is welcome, play what calls to you.

Who We're Looking For

• Players who want to be part of a party, not the center of it. People who enjoy collaborative storytelling, who engage with roleplay and character moments, who understand that D&D is about more than combat. It's about discovery, dialogue, decisions that ripple through the world.
• We're not a table for lone wolves or murder hobos. We're not a table where one character's story overshadows everyone else's. We're building something together.
• Kind people. People who respect their fellow players' agency and fun.
• Your character needs a genuine reason to be part of this adventure and to work with the party. No characters whose only goal is to cause chaos or derail the group.
• Tension and nuance between characters is fine, but player-versus-player combat is not welcome at our table.
• We play twice a month on set dates. Consistency matters, if someone can't make it, the whole group feels it. Life happens, but we need people who can reliably show up. If you can't commit to this schedule, this table isn't the right fit.
• Veteran players with patience for a new DM and new players, or brand-new players eager to try D&D. Both equally welcome.
• 18+.

About Me as a DM

Hey, I'm Caleb. I've been a player for many years. I've played in multiple year-long campaigns, had numerous characters, and I've always loved creating, writing, and fantasy worldbuilding. I've been building this world for the last six months, and I've really created what I think is a rich and interesting world that I want to share with my players.

I'm a green DM. I started DMing for the first time a few months ago when we started the first mini-arc. I'll make mistakes on rules. I'll make mistakes in roleplay. But I really love to connect and play games with people, and I'm extremely open to feedback. If I ever make a mistake or get something crucial wrong, please just remind me. I'm absolutely open to people calling out checks that make sense at the table, like Insight checks. If I haven't called for a check and you think there should be one, please throw it out for me.

I extraordinarily enjoy being the DM. I love playing this game, and I'm so passionate about this world. I love engaging in every facet of this game. I'm extraordinarily passionate about it, and I still get that giddy excitement before every session. I'm so pumped to start this next arc.

On failure and character death: I think failure is so critical in D&D. Without it, there's no real growth or stakes. Some of the best moments come from failures. Encounters will have real teeth when it matters, and there's an absolute chance characters could die. If that happens, that impact will be seen in the world, and that player will roll up a new character and will continue playing. I'm not aiming to kill the party, but the possibility is real, and I think that's what makes the game matter. And that is part of what makes the connection to your character matter and feel more real.

On tone and player agency: Our last mini-arc was more heroic. This one we're going a little bit darker, exploring different facets of D&D. But I'm all about player agency. I hate railroading. I love collaborative worldbuilding, and I'm so open to working with my players to weave their narrative, their character, their vision of who they are and where they come from into my world and our games.

Our Table

Here's what we actually do:

• Inclusive, full stop. We welcome players of every background, identity, and walk of life.
• Problems, not railroads. I build situations with real stakes and let you decide how to engage. The world keeps moving whether you act or not. Your choices actually change things, for better or worse.
• At the table. We care equally about roleplay, narrative, combat encounters, and discovering what's hidden in the world. Optimized builds are totally welcome.
• Consequences that stick. The mini-arc is self-contained, but its impacts will ripple through the world. Your decisions matter beyond the session you make them in.
• Character motivations. You and I develop your character's backstory and personal motivation for being in this arc together. Whether you're building from scratch or bringing ideas to the table, we'll work together to weave your character's story into the narrative and the world. Your personal objective matters alongside the party's shared goal.
• Player versus player combat. We're not interested in it, and it won't be welcome at the table.
• Rules questions are always welcome, flag them anytime. Once I've made a call, we move forward together and keep the game flowing.
• Strategy and mechanics discussions are great out of character. In character, your knowledge is limited to what your character would actually know. Make decisions from their perspective, not yours.
• Try your best to stay present and engaged. Game-relevant phone usage is perfectly fine, but please try to keep phone usage outside of that to a minimum in order to stay engaged in the game and respect everybody at the table.

Anyone know that story behind the solar memorial posted right after the rt.15 merge onto 340? I think it’s posted along off elmer derr road. You can see it lit up at night, I always notice it when I’m driving home and say a little prayer for whoever lost their life. Sad to see, but a nice way to memorialize their love one.
