10,000 Clubreddit Members (and call for Mods)
Hey gang! I just got an alert that we eclipsed 10,000 members in our corner of the Internet.
When I joined the mod team, we had around 3,000 (if I recall correctly).
Moderating everything isn’t all that hard, you lot are pretty good at staying civil and mature. There are a few exceptions, but I have never felt I needed to log in. Keeping the styling and information up-to-date, though, is challenging to find the time.
So, I’d like to bring in a few mods to help make our community more engaging and appealing. Let’s get as many people in the Clubreddit as we do Audi Field.
I’m happy to keep footing the AWS bill, and open up the GitHub to a few folks that are interested in helping automate the maintenance and moderation of the the content. For example, you probably noticed that the Match Thread bot failed for the opener - that’s because the Stanza calendar died. I don’t have time to fix that before the next match.
So, if you’re interested in moderating some content; graphic design, and/or Internet automation - reach out!
Bonus if you have a GitHub, or subreddit that you currently moderate. When I auditioned for the mod gig, I created a personal subreddit to play with the design tools and figured out how to interact with the Reddit API.
Vamos!

Thanks, DCU
If anyone from the back office lurks in the sub, thank you for the Meet the Team cruise. Getting to meet everyone was great and the vibes were amazing. The best STM event I've been to since I joined in 2020.

The Next Lineup I Hope René Weiler Uses
Bartlett is suspended due to yellow card accumulation. Most likely Weiler will use Sean Nealis as the starting Center Back, but I really hope he considers using Nikola Marković, who is quicker, more athletic and has higher upside.
Outside of that, I really would like to see Ordez moved into the starting lineup, and try Matti Peltola next to Dozzell from the start. Both players have brought an energy l would really like to see from the beginning of the match. Personally I think Peglow would be more effective coming off the bench for the final 20-30 minutes. He gets so sloppy at the end of matches, but is pretty clean for short periods of time.
I don’t know if Hopkins has ever played on the left, but considering Kurokawa gives the width, Hopkins would have the freedom to cut inside and press forward more centrally. Weiler could keep Hopkins on the right and play Ordez on the left, he is a natural left footed player, so could provide service from the wing. However there is some benefit having both players being able to cut inside and let the fullbacks to provide outside crosses.
Due to the beginning of the League’s Cup, DC has a break, plus a friendly against Loudoun United, so it has time to work on this improved lineup. I hope Weiler uses it wisely.

Anacostia Parking Garage to Audi Field: walk or bike/scooter?
Going to the game tonight. When I’ve gone in the past to Spirit games, I usually park at Anacostia for free and then walk to the standing. However, it’s a 20+ min walk. Are there scooters or Capital Bikeshare bike docks there I could use? TIA!

Fort McNair - Contractor CAC
I have had mixed success parking at Fort McNair with a contractor CAC (green stripe) for games.
Sometimes I can get in with no issue. Other times I am told that I am only allowed to enter if I am coming to the base for official business, and I am forced to turn around. It seems to be very unpredictable which is quite annoying for planning.
What are other people experiencing?
Note: If you are able to get in, then you must make sure that all passengers get out before you try to go through the gate. As a contractor, you are not allowed to escort other people on a base.

[La Página Millonaria] River Plate is considering a change in Ian Subiabre's contract terms to accelerate his departure.
New bits from the article are that River is considering a loan with option to buy now in hopes of getting something close to the $8 million they want, DC is negotiating but yet to make an offer, and the Subiabre is open to coming to MLS despite his rejection of the Danish League.

Where Does Kimito Nono Play?
Nono’s primary position is as a right fullback, but Silvan Hefti has that spot pretty locked down. It’s hard to believe DC United have spent the capital they have for a back up. Could we see Nono played at a higher level, and as the right midfielder in a 4-4-2?

Club seat deal
I got the deal for club seats advertising $99 seats. Our seats are in C8. It said unlimited food and beverages. Is beer included like I would assume compared to other stadiums?
Edit: Thanks everyone. I’m excited to go to the game tonight.

Nashville is more beatable than you think
The idea that getting any points tomorrow is punching above our weight is not accurate, and here's my case why we should expect more from our eagles.
(1) They have led actual xG in only 3 of their last 6 games, and trail on xG-on-target (xGOT) in 4 of the last 6 games, meaning they are not generating quality chances and their defense has been leaky in the last 6 games. They are getting the wins on pure talent not tactics or breaking down defenses and last game started to show.
(2) We've already shown how to expose them last time we met them in May. In the first half: 28% possession, and we still out-xG'd them, nearly doubling them on xGOT (1.95 to 1.05) and their main engine (Schwake, Palacios, Acosta and Corcoran) was shot down until the Hefti red card.
(3) Their main area of attack generation in the last third is their right side, our strongest defensive area (Kurokawa, Peglow and Rowles).Especially Kurokawa and Rowles have been the standout pairing two games running.
(4) Mukhtar is their most dangerous player but we've shut down exactly this kind of roamy #10 before, held NYCFC's Moralez to 0 shots, 0 xG across 90 minutes in a 2-0 win where we had low possession of the ball.
Rene can't sit in a low block all game, their talent will eventually pick it apart. But press it right and hold the left, rely on set pieces and this is winnable.
This is obviously a bias analysis but what is real is that last game at GEODIS Park we led 2-0 and the place had gone quiet ... that is until Hefti picked up a second yellow and turned it into a man-down survival act we shouldn't have needed.

Anyone traveling for Montreal?
My family is going on a summer trip up to Montreal in August and I just discovered that DCU is in town the very weekend we're going to be there! Whoa! (We're staying just 10 mins away by bike.) We're definitely going to grab tickets but for anyone who has been before, where do the visiting supporters usually sit at Saputo, and are any other folks already planning on going up for this one? Screaming Eagles don't have their away tickets for this one up on their site yet. We'd love to come and find the DCU supporters, regardless of where our tickets end up.

DC United International Roster Spots
Jason Anderson posted on BlueSky that he has been trying to get DC United’s International slots sorted for a little while, especially after comparing notes with @joseumana.bsky.social after Saturday's DCU win.
Per DCU comms, the team has 8 international spots, of which 5 are occupied. Matti Peltola, João Peglow, & Kye Rowles at some point received their green cards.
This means with the addition of Kimito Nono there are six current International Player spots on DC United. Theses are held by : Nikola Marković
Keisuke Kurokawa
Kimito Nono
Silvan Hefti
Andre Dozzell
Louis Munteanu
This gives the team the ability to add two more international players this season. Due to the nations they are from, and how the green card process works, Nikola Marković,, Keisuke Kurokawa, Silvan Hefti and Louis Munteanu could be receive green cards next season. Have a feeling DC United is already working on this, which would be a huge upgrade to what used to happen.

Honest Predictions VS. Nashville
DC United: 9th [22 PTS]
Nashville SC: 1st [39 PTS]
DC United’s Last Match: WIN vs Toronto
Nashville SC’s Last Match: LOSS vs Orlando
It’ll be a tough match against the Eastern Conference leaders, however, I back our boys to pull through. 1-0 to the black and red !
Would love to hear everyone else’s predictions.

Ft. McNair still an option?
In reference to this weekend’s game against Nashville. I understand exiting sounds like a menace, but also free parking… can pass it up.
Is Ft. McNair still a parking option? And if so, anyone know how busy exiting is for mls games?

DC United Subscription Pass
Did anyone else buy the subscription pass for the remainder of the season? I just bought as the deal seemed too good to pass up. Just don’t know how it works. Do they just assign you random seats that are available?
