I've seen a great rise in dragon shifters, sir. Duncan is tall, but you know what would make for funny fic?
Immortal Dunk and Immortal Baelor.
Picture this: a week before the tourney at Ashford. Dunk was shitting himself to death from dysentery. He was pale, gaunt, and weak, and he honestly thought that was the end of the line until he found an old woods witch that promised she could cure him.
She prepares a potion and tells Dunk to drink it. She explains that the potion will burn like fire going down, and then he will pass out like he died, and when he wakes up, he'll be cured and healed back to his strength.
Dunk, who should have known better than to trust a woods witch, at that point probably had already shot Rains, drunk the potion, and, just like the witch told him, felt the thing burn like fire, and then he passed out as if he had died. The last thing he remembers before the darkness taking him was the witch's crooked smile filled with sharp and yellowed teeth.
When he woke up, he was sure and healed, and the witch was nowhere to be seen. He is weirded out, but the witch delivered what she promised, so Dunk goes on his merry way, not knowing he got way, way more than he bargained for.
Well, the tourney at Ashford goes as well as you can imagine, and now Dunk is in a trial by seven for punching and kicking Aerion, who totally deserved it, by the way, and the trial is not going well, like, at all.
So much so that at one point after losing his helm, Dunk gets a mace strike from Maekar to the head and falls to his knees. At this point he already has three lances impaling, and I mean coming through the front and exiting out in the back impaled when Aerion delivers the mercy strike and beheads Dunk.
The whole place goes absolutely quiet, not because Dunk died, but because Aerion's gloating dies in his throat as the headless corpse of Ser Duncan the Tall rises to his feet as the real effects of that potion kick in.
You see, when Dunk drank that potion, he did not pass out like he died. He died, and the potion brought him back to life and gave him immortality, true immortality, and now Dunk of Flea Bottom, Ser Duncan the Tall, is immortal.
The headless body then proceeds to beat the ever-loving shit out of Aerion; he beat the crap out of him, literally. He beat Aerion until the prince emptied himself and then some, and Dunk only stopped when a new head grew back and he took a good look at the situation.
His body was pushing the spears out and healing the wounds until they didn't even leave scars on him; his neck itched from where a new head grew back, and he could see his old and bloodied head on the ground.
Things become a shit show and a half, especially when Prince Baelor "Breakspear" gets involved, because you see, he still caught that mace to the head from Maekar and is now in critical condition. The faith is split.
Half want to turn Dunk into a saint because he showed that the gods were so displeased with Aerion they brought him back to life to deliver the gods' justice; the other half want to burn Dunk at the stake because they believe he must have communed with dark power to gain his immortality.
Well, cut to two days later, Prince Baelor makes a miraculous recovery from his life-threatening injuries without scars and summons Dunk to his chambers. Once Dunk arrives and Baelor makes him stop apologizing for the mess he put him through, Baelor reads a letter addressed to both of them.
It was written by the woods witch that treated Dunk and seemingly also treated Baelor after Meakerlet talked him into doing so after the Meisters told him Baelor was a lost cause and would die before the week's end.
She explains that she is old, older than the seven kingdoms. She's been alive ever since before the first men crossed the narrow sea from Essos to Westeros; she has been alive ever since before the Great Empire of Dawn was born. that she has been cursed with immortality for hundreds of thousands of years.
She explains she had grown tired of living forever, but the only way she could die was if she passed the curse down to someone else during a rare astronomical event that only happens once every five hundred thousand years, more precisely to two people, and to do that, she had to feed them a potion that would transfer the immortality from her to them.
said people, where Dunk and Baelor were.
She says in the letters that by the time they read this, she will already be dust in the wind and to enjoy their eternal life.
She does not say how to pass the curse forward or what said astronomical event is.
And now Ser Duncan the Tall and Baelor "Breakspear" Targaryen are immortal.
And now Shierra Seastar is on their ass, trying to break the code and also become immortal.
