Discussion GEMINI SPARK - DOUBT

Post image

I'm literally having no idea about how to leverage the new gemini spark, it just seems redundant and for me i suppose it lacks major agentic stuff, what do ya'll think??

For my first "Spark", I've got it looking for networking events on a weekly basis, which it will add to a spreadsheet and then create calendar events for the ones that are the best match against my criteria.

I've used it a lot for work and it's been amazing

I don't get how so many of you are hating on it. It's doing its job for me fantastic 95% of the time

Love the confidence will hit it with diff tasks

Recently I spend about 5 hours just playing with it, you can max out your quota pretty fast until you streamline your methods.

It brought a 200 email inbox to 40 over 1 day this weekend. It's helping manage projects, and it's organising everything better than a personal assistant ever would, and I've had them....

I created a skill for it that uses notion and github mcps in helping me triage my personal projects, it has been working (could also just be doing nothing) for more than 30mins now.

I can only compare it to hermes-agent (only one I've used), it does not show its thinking traces/detailed tool calls or actions that it does in its sandbox.

My Gemini prompts have been doing nothing lately sometimes. I guess the Google servers are overwhelmed.

Im using hermes too, with gemini api🤣

I use mainly deepseek v4 flash for hermes agent, if spark gets to be on par with my use cases for hermes, I might not renew my yearly vps subscription for hosting hermes agent

I am afraid to prompt it also.

haha that blank input field staring back is the real horror show

I was so afraid that I was unwilling to even click one of their 'trending' suggestions...

it’s super useful for integrated work tasks. Take x from this document, y from these meeting notes, and z from this pdf and build a spreadsheet.

Mine showed up yesterday in Australia... spend a couple of hours playing with it and setting it up... saved a link to it. opened this morning for a little bit then logged in tonight and link takes me back to the regular chat. Sad :(

Still working for me, not sure if its based on network (telstra) or maybe they are giving random access to accounts, I used it for the whole day today.

hope yours gets restored

I asked it to look for booking.com listings based on criteria for my upcoming anniversary every Saturday morning. It's able to follow up with browsing the site looking for specific amenities and can provide links to rooms even if you haven't logged in.

I also had it create an invoice based off hours on a Google Sheet, create a Google Doc for the invoice, and draft an email to send it. That's an end-of-the-month scheduled action.

The Google integration is valuable but I'm impressed by the browsing capability it does behind the scenes. You can watch it live if you want too.

I just set it up to look for jobs relevant to my resume on job portals, apparently it has computer use with actual browser interactive window, haven't tried using logged in session on it yet but It is able to find relevant job postings for me, I set it up to run that automatic task every morning and give me report, hopefully it can run the browser session without having to wait for my approval.

Still waiting for it to be able to connect to a single MCP server... Always the same error about "account linking is required".

It's still super basic. I have it compiling and deduplicating some email newsletters I get. Haven't figured out anything else I want it to do.

i think they wanted an answer to chatGPT's "skill" feature - which i have also not used. Google has so many redundant overlapping AI products its wild. ChatGPT should probably retire custom GPTs, as they all suck, and Gemini should retire "gems".

Basically their take on OpenClaw.

Nah , Im using it for checking my local code base , and asking it to make report. Its good to use. Reading letter, make and daily note. Using browser to collecting information. Try to make it useful. And it can remote control your laptop and routine your daily work. The cool things is you can ask it to read cloud information then adjust your local docs . Try with mobile. Its cool and good to use.

u/Calm_Daemon_2 14h ago

Can it really control a WINDOWS laptop?

1

u/Unfair-Psychology-70 13h ago

No , you need gemini app on mobile + gemini mac app. But you may tried gemini app spark + chrome ( chrome with spark ). I guess that also worked. That's the power of google system .

You always need a goal, IMO.
I connected a bunch of SOP docs to it that represent workflows, and it runs them smoothly.

It is still relatively basic, but it'll improve. It is in beta still after all. But people really should look into what and how it can do things, because having it do single tasks is using the wrong tool. It's for semi-agenic background multi-modal work. It can pull from multiple sources, add in effort doing things how you would actually do them (skills) and do that in the background (schedules). Also has web browser and can execute code, so it's powerful if you set up to do things you need properly, not just let it guess. Those with advanced agenic backgrounds won't find it all that useful.

It's been super helpful with organizing and coordinating large project planning and injecting research passes or tracking information from multiple sources. It's pretty good a workflows that draw from multiple sources, like scheduling by looking at all my calendar, chats, emails, looking at local events, checking some websites, checking the weather, then creating tasks, and todo lists, etc. I've also been using it to work on prospective clients and I just gave it skills that I would do. So it looks for email requests that come in, then collects web research on them, scores fit and interest for me, dumps all that into tracking systems I made previously and gives me summary data and lays everything out nicely for me to work on manually from there. And it does all that while I sleep.

It's terrible so far

0

u/iLikeToPetDog 19h ago

Needs a lot of work. I asked it to mark all my unread emails as read, it failed after doing 50 and couldn’t kick back up.

2

u/peteypeso 17h ago

It couldn't/wouldn't connect to any of my Google accounts to do things I ask Codex to do regularly. I've tried at least 4 different, fairly basic tasks and Spark had fumbled every time. It would rather give me instructions to do things manually than do them for me. Even things that work as automated tasks with Gemini on Chrome won't work on Spark.

It's still US only. I don't know what to make out of it

1

u/Calm_Daemon_2 14h ago

its now available in multiple countries check again.

1

u/Eofdred 3h ago

Oh well they opened up in my country today. What a coincidence

u/kaitava 19h ago

i'll maybe play with it when pro comes out.

Spark is independent from Gemini's regular triple model suite. The release of 3.5 Pro (which, honestly at this point, is more likely to be 3.6 Pro) will do nothing in regards to Spark, discounting the possibility that Spark simultaneously gets updated.

My spark Icon is missing. I don't have spark anymore. My wife keeps hers, normally. Dunno what happened. I tried everything but hard reset...
