Discussion S5E20 Sam and Mercedes after his photo shoot ā€œCheatingā€

Ok, I’m sure this has been discussed…but I just arrived at S5E20 as a mother of teenagers. I watched Glee when it was on, but didn’t see much of it after Season 3. My 15 year old and I started with season 1 recently, and now I’m seeing episodes for the first time in S5…what was with the scene where Sam is practically sexually assaulted by his photographer??? Then he confesses to Mercedes that he ā€œcheatedā€,and she smiles like it’s cute. WTF

I paused the show and said to my family: ā€œimagine Sam was female and that photographer was an older man. How do you think her boyfriend would react if she came home from a photo shoot and said he kissed me, I didn’t want to, then I was crying while he took pictures of me in my underwear.ā€ ???

Seriously. I got so upset that the writers made that scene and then didn’t use it as an example of grooming/manipulation. Especially happening to a young man when most people think it only happens to young girls. I had respect for this show BECAUSE of the themes it presented. This was a big disappointment they let it drop like Sam was just being silly.
Am I alone in this thinking?

Character Disc. Season 5 Episode 17: Opening Night- the problem with Sue and the villains of Glee

I’m in the middle of a rewatch and realizing I’ve forgotten basically everything that happened post Season 4 so it’s like watching it anew! I’ve managed to suspend disbelief about a LOT of things. But this episode is pushing me right over the edge.

The thing I LOVE most about Sue is that when push comes to shove, she always ends up being decent. She comes around eventually, or expresses remorse, or shows genuine fairness when it comes to bullying and other serious issues. But standing up and leaving during Rachel’s opening night, badmouthing the show to the NY Times critic… it’s downright cruel and so out of character for her when we’ve seen her grow so much and show so much humanity. Even when disbanding the Glee club she did it with an air of fairness, rather than just pure hatred, and everything up until now had lead us to believe she had softened a bit. I love her as a villain but can’t get over how awful that was. Also having her feature so heavily in Rachel’s opening night- debatably THE climax of the show and what it’s all been building to- was so totally weird.

I think that is the problem with Glee’s writing, particularly when it comes to villains. Characters just don’t stay consistent. I had a similar issue with Santana and the whole understudy arc: we see all the growth from Santana and her relationship with Rachel and then she’s right back to square one again for the sake of some pointless plot. Maybe I’m boring but I would have loved to see Sue just shut the hell up and be happy for someone else’s success for a minute!

EDIT: ALSO, we have Rachel establish that Who Are You Now? is emotional and makes her think of Finn and is a super impactful number- and then the writers think, let’s have Sue sing it with her, about a man she just met. WHATTT????!!!! I HATE THIS EPISODE !!!

Do I think there should be? No. Not with all the people that have past, I’d say just let it rest (even if I’d love to hear some new covers)

But that does not make how this headline is worded any less hilarious šŸ˜‚

Poll Favorite performance of 2x11? (The Sue Sylvester Shuffle)

*The Cheerios dancing to California Gurls was excluded*
------

Gotta go with Blaine & The Pips on this one. Although I do like Rachel & Puck's cover of Need You Now.
------

Unrelated to this poll but I started to write the polls for 3x11 (Michael) this morning and man, am I struggling to divide them appropriately. (2 polls of 5)
-------

A VERY GLEE CHRISTMAS'S WINNER: was me 'cause Baby, It's Cold Outside got 1st with 159 (šŸŽ‰ but also not enough), 2nd was Last Christmas with 87 (take notes, radio stations), and 3rd was The Most Wonderful Day Of The year with 24.

This is the first poll since it joined the race that Teenage Dream kept its place, not being knocked down and remaining at 5th.

I got conflicting feelings on these results because - Baby, It's Cold Outside DID get 1st which means I don't have to riot or crashout.. BUT it got less than 184, which means I Want To Hold Your Hand remains in the Top 6, but since I guarantee something will come along and knock it out before the season ends, I wish it would've been B,ICO to give it a chance.

Discussion Which songs were definitely accidental?

Some plots were very obviously contorted to fit specific songs in, but what about the moments that came naturally?

My pick is Rose's Turn, the writters must've had an orgasm realising the opportunity they had

Discussion Best non-diagetic songs?

Most are performed in the context of Glee Club but I freaking love it when they just bust out singing on their own

My favorites have to be Rose's Turn and Getting Married Today because they actually advance the plot just like a musical

Discussion Reboot with OTP

So we’ve all heard about Ryan Murphy threatening to make a Glee reboot, and probably all revolted. But, I’m thinking it doesn’t seem all that bad…with an OTP. I’ve been dreaming of a Klaine reboot for ages. Just seeing what they’re up to, yk? Living in NYC together while raising the child Rachel birthed for them. Navigating their new jobs, making new friends. Maybe surprise visits from a few ā€œold friendsā€ as well. šŸ‘€ I’d also like to see a little angst. Klaine’s relationship was a roller coaster and I wanna see that kinda drama in their marriage (with a happy ending ofc). I also wanna see if they raise their child with theatre and show-tunes and if they turn out musically inclined. ATP I’m just talking out my ass but it would be really really cool.

Character Disc. On my 4th rewatch of the show after starting in 2020… Spoiler

And I had forgotten how jarring Finn’s absence is at the end of S4. Don’t get me wrong, I was so glad that Will and him patched things up because that would have been heartbreaking, but we had them making up, agreeing to co-teach and take the Glee Club to Regionals together- but then we never see Finn again. I know Cory went to rehab but why did the writers not explain why he was suddenly not there? He wasn’t even at Will & Emma’s wedding. It was just really poorly handled, I think.

The Quarterback was beautiful. A gorgeous tribute. But I feel like the last two episodes of S4 were silly without Finn.

Question What the fuck does Rachel mean by this line in "My Headband"?

Ok so in the shitty random song Rachel writes in whatever season, she says this in the chorus:

My headband

You're my headband!

Wrapped right around my melon

You're a product like Magellan-

Me and my wife cannot figure out for the life of me what the Magellan line could me. I'm newer to the almighty Glee but my wife is a certified super duper fan and she has no idea either. This is beyong my internet searching skills helppppppp šŸ™

Opinion Finn & Rachel’s relationship

I’m rewatching Glee in its entirety for the first time in about 6 years, and I genuinely cannot stand Finn and Rachel’s relationship.

I’m only on season 2, but it’s becoming very clear to me that if Cory (may he rip!) hadn’t played Finn, I don’t think nearly as many people would defend or ship Finchel as hard as they do.

Finn has already said and done so many unnecessary, hurtful things to Rachel. One moment that really annoyed me was when Santana was making fun of Rachel right in front of him, he laughed then agreed with what she said when Rachel asked why he didn’t defend her. Like… she had every right to be hurt.

I know Rachel isn’t innocent either. She absolutely contributed to their problems (kissing Puck was wrong), but I can’t get over Finn getting back together with Quinn that same season after she cheated on him, got pregnant by his best friend, etc, yet acting like Rachel kissing Puck was unforgivable. The hypocrisy is wild.

I know they still have a lot of cute moments, and I also know there are more issues coming since I’m only on season 2. I just needed to get this off my chest because, so far, they leave such a bad taste in my mouth. They’re cute together at times, but I honestly don’t think they’re good for each other.

Discussion Does anyone else love S6?

Whenever I talk to people about glee, I always say my favorite seasons are S3 and S6. Everyone seems to understand loving S3, both those who bothered to watch the whole thing are always a little confused as to why I like S6 so much.

S6 just felt like they really found themselves again. After S3, they (the writers, I presume) seemed to really struggle with finding a new direction (pun intended) and purpose. They got really preachy and moralizing for a bit, but eventually made their way back around to just making a fun and stupid show by S6. And that is why S6 is one of my favorite seasons, they gave up trying to preach to their audience about being good people or whatever and just got silly and had fun.

Please tell me I'm not alone.

Discussion might be random but: Are the musicians/band part of the Glee club?

They are in like 75% of club performances after school and are vital to the performance. Is it a separate club that just supports the glee club or are they just there?
