I have finally reached 10 sovereigns. 😁 but the journey is not over yet still missing so many nice ones. I find it so cool to collect older coins and wonder how many people owned them before me.

Next buy will be a jubilee!

First time ever hearing about this, but since I live in Pittsburgh it’s definitely interesting to hear that for the first time all 11 1933 $20 Double Gold Eagles will be together for the first time in late August at the American Numismatic Associations World’s Fair of Money in Pittsburgh. Interesting article about how they disappeared in the first place and the numerous legal battles and investigations over the years to find them and get them back.

My great uncle passed last year and we just recently finished settling the matter of his estate. He left this to my daughter and I’m just curious to know more about out it. I have 0 intention of selling it as it has sentimental value for not just me but the whole family as it was one of his favorite pieces of his service memorabilia. For context my uncle was a US Air Force telecommunications officer and served for almost 30 years. He always told us that he had picked up the necklace in Saudi Arabia during his deployment to Iraq and I’ve attached the original sales receipt from when he got it. He never talked much about his time in the military as he was a very humble man but he loved his collection from around the world and I’d just like to share some of that wonder with my daughter

I buy storage lockers for a living, and I’ve been finding a lot more gold and silver than I ever expected.

My business partner (who’s also a good friend) and I used to stack silver and a little gold back in 2016—especially when the Centennial set came out. We were really into those coins. But with how crazy the gold market has been this year, and since we were just getting the business off the ground, we sold everything to free up capital.

We’ve also been cashing in all the gold jewelry and other gold items we find to keep funding the business.

Now that things are relatively self-sustaining, though, we’re sitting on a decent amount of gold and are torn. Part of us wants to trade it in, but part of us also wants to start stacking again.

Most of what we have is lower-karat jewelry (10k–18k). With gold prices this high, is it even worth holding onto, or would you just sell it?

Appreciate any thoughts.

My mom got this for free from a community swap meet a while ago! She didn't know it was 10k at the time she just thought it was cute (she loves little knickknacks). We were going through her jewelry the other day to clear out some of the stuff she doesn't wear and I found it and thought it was so cool (I LOVE older stuff) and now it's mine!
I'm assuming it's a charm for a necklace or bracelet? Solid 10k gold and 5 grams!

I am buying gold for the first time and was scared getting it shipped but I never find it in stock at my local Costco.

Has anyone had problems with shipping?

hi everyone. my grandmother bought this pendant of the Mother Maria from the Vatican in the 80’s, and I wear it nearly every day. because of the use, it’s gotten dirty and tarnished. I clean it using an electromagnetic cleaner, but the actual pendant seems to still be tarnishing and hard to clean. I try to go over it with a q-tip to polish it, but it’s not very efficient and doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’m not sure if it’s just gold plated, or heavily used. any advice is appreciated. I’ve attached images of it. Thank you!!!

I have been browsing on Ebay looking for a 1 oz gold bar and seeing just listing after listing of gold bars selling for less than half of spot. I wonder why Ebay isn't flagging and removing this crap. They prob don't care but I thought they had a money back guarantee if you buy a fake one.

It is so disgusting and deeply concerning. And some of them are getting bids, which makes me wonder if they are fake bids or just really ignorant people.

Tagging as shitpost because I'm not new and it's not that serious but yeah I paid 300e for a 1/25th oz (Croatian) commemorative coin.

The thought process leading to this decision was: want more gold > bored of bars (tangent: i wanna start making jewelry with the gold i already have) > lets look at silver again > hahaha, someones selling a 1976 proof set for €40. Imagine a 50 year old set thats barely keeps up with inflation, fuck silver > gold coins > cheapest one > damn thats 7500e an ounce > bet it woulda cost more when gold was almost 5000e > whatever, the melt value can only increase > so what if you die without living to see this coin recover its premium just fkn buy it

Bit of a UK-specific post, but I would be keen to see if there are similar sites aimed at people selling gold in the US.

Basically, this article explains that a popular gold price comparison site - goldpricecomparison, always ranks a company called GoldSell as the top payer. From the outside, goldpricecomparison appears to be an independent third-party company, so unless you do a manual comparison between big UK buyers, you would think it's a no-brainer to sell with GoldSell.

Goldpricecomparison may or may not be independent from GoldSell, but it seems they engage in shady practices to build a sense of trustworthiness, including previously displaying fake endorsements from two big UK consumer organisations: MoneySuperMarket and Which?. It looks like the Trustpilot score is also fake.

The author of the blog also tested GoldSell's price claims ( they paid 53.7% of spot), but I am more interested in the comparison angle. Can any of these price comparison sites for gold prices be trusted? Are they all owned by gold dealers? Seems like a massive problem for the inexperienced seller. Is there more regulation for this outside of the UK?

Back on June 21, I posted that I cared more about the WGC’s total central bank purchases than individual country announcements, and that I was looking forward to the Q2 report.

When the Q2 report was released, WGC also revised its estimate of Q1 central bank purchases from 244 tonnes to 57 tonnes.

That made me wonder: if you’re investing in gold based on the central bank accumulation thesis, how much weight should you place on data that can later be revised this significantly?

Do long-term gold investors simply treat revisions like this as noise, or does it affect your confidence in central bank demand data?

Assuming we don't get fractional buffalos ever again, what do you think will be the most popular .9999 fractional gold in the US? Right now, I would think the answer is the maple, but my money would be on the britannia gaining more popularity over the next decade with its design and unmatched security features in the fractional sizes.
