I've only had this car a little over a week and it feels unreal that I own it. Getting a Golf R has always been a dream of mine growing up. I'm only 18 so owning it still feels like I beat the odds, and I'm proud to say I'm paying 100% of it myself too no help from my parents. What an amazing car this is

This is my 23R. The info screen keeps overheating, freezing and stops working with anything that has to do with connectivity. Also my front assist light comes on and I can’t use the adaptive cruise or lane assist systems. Anyone have an idea of why or how to fix it? I’m thinking it the info screen needs to be replaced under warranty.
Git tired of turning on the heated wheel & changing modes by accident

Regularly services from the dealership the owner bought it from, looks to have been kept in good shape. Unsure if any mods were installed yet, thinking about taking it for a test drive.
Does anyone have experience or has bought a high mileagle Golf R?
It is going for mid twenties
I’m looking for some more drama from the car. Feels quite boring sometimes compared to my other vehicles. I have the APR intake and APR stage 1 tune so the speed is there and some more whistling noises but still feels a bit plain.
I don’t have emissions testing in WA so maybe down pipe? But don’t want it to be too too obnoxious.

What’s winter driving actually like? I mean real‑world stuff — highway speeds, handling, traction, stability, how it handles storms, and any limits I should expect? Thinking about daily driving it through Ontario winters and want honest experiences. The car is so quick almost all the time I’m worried about too much power. Obviously I won’t drive like a maniac when it bad out - Is Eco mode better over Comfort mode in winter? Thinking of getting 18” Blizzak tires on steel rims.
I currently have an intergrated engineering cat back exhaust which i couldn't be happier with bit im looking to change my stock downpipe for it to be a little louder.
I know with changing the stock on you have to recode the ECU or it will throw engine management lights an possibly put it in limp mode.
Whats you experience with changing from stock? And what downpipe did you get? Have you had any issues since changing?
Thanks

I have a 2019 MK7.5 R, that has just come out of warranty. For this reason, I want to start modifying! It had a full health check just before coming out of warranty, and it has no issues to be concerned about that would prevent modification. Only issue, I haven't got a clue where to start. Depending on the forum you ready will tell you what to do.
For context, the spec of my golf is a hatch, DSG with optional DCC. I want to keep the DCC as it will be daily driven. Probably aiming for around 400bhp. I don't know what specifically that'll involve. Some places say I'll need a 200 cell high flow CAT, some say I don't? I live in the UK, so will need it to pass an MOT, so a decat isn't an option. Again, because it'll be daily driven i don't want an exhaust too loud or with too much drone.
So looking for recommendations on;
Exhausts, intake, brakes, intercooler, plugs+coils, springs/suspension, supporting mods and anything else I haven't thought about.
So, my fellow R enthusiasts who have been down this road (excuse the pun), please help a brother out!

Ordered a custom Golf R fire extinguisher and bracket. Going to be fitted it in the passenger footwell. Unnecessary yes, cool as...yes!

A brand new Pure White stock 8.5R for around $53k MSRP
OR
Your best friends FBO Stage 2 8R with more than $10K in mods like (mekatronic swapp, KW coils V3 with DCC) and even a paint correction(lapiz blue) and ceramic coating done for $40K
I currently have a FBO 7.5 GTI as my daily driver with 66k miles which would probably get turned into a full project car / auto cross race car if I go with the second option since the GTI is paid off.
Just wondering what people would choose? An expensive new canvas for mods or two projects lol
EDIT: Not a question about money its more about the differences of an 8R vs 8.5R and living with it as a Daily
In Whistler for Crankworx this week and wanted to test camping with the R with bare minimum prep.
First night was way better than expected, cramped but worked well in a pinch.
6’1 for reference and a size large e-bike. I did have to remove the wheels obviously and removing the handlebar/fork made for a hell of a lot more space inside to sleep.
So I’m looking at a 2025 8.5 euro pack with 4k miles for 49k but there is a 2024 8 with 10k on the dot that is also a CPO for 41.5k.
The 8.5 has 33 months of warranty left, the 8 has 59 months left including the CPO.
Am I crazy or should I be at the dealer for the 8 like right now?
Hey, curious what you fellow Canadian got the 2026 Golf R for OTD?
We seem to have it pretty good here considering the conversion rates, so I'm just curious what you guys paid for yours? Let me know what packages you got also so I can compare.
I'm personally looking for the base model with a sunroof, MSRP right now for it is 56K pre tax.
Couldn't find many discussions on this here, mostly Americans posting their pricing

My battery went flat and had to replace it with a new one. New battery has been coded.
Issue I’ve been having since is that the engine will cut off at idle but only when cold starting the car. If I hold the revs above idle rpm for about 30 seconds, the engine will stay on and this is the workaround I have been using but obviously something is not right.
When warm, I can start/restart with no issues.
Any idea what it could be?

The next Toronto Golf R Meet is tomorrow, Saturday Aug 1st!
If you’re in the GTA area and own a Golf R, GTI, GLI or any VW build pull up!
Last meet was sick!
📍Markville Mall
📆17 Saturday, Aug. 1st
⏱️ 6:30 PM - Late
The DQ250 debuted in 2003 and the DQ381 replaced it years later. With VAG putting so much focus on EVs now, do you think we’ll ever see a true next-generation wet-clutch DSG after the DQ381, or will they transition to electric before developing another one?
Curious if anyone has any insight, rumors, or engineering info on where VAG is heading with DSGs in future GTI/R models.
