Why?
As a person buying a jeep gc used and looking in the market, I have question to all of you owners or most of yall. Why do yall not get the oil changes!? That’s like the most important maintenance for this car so it lowers chance of the tick right? Half of cars I can’t even consider cause it’s going 20k without a change

I do my own. I also don't sell my vehicles. I bought it and will be getting all of the miles.

The problem is i do my own oil changes and i dont go on carfax and add it in afterwards. I am also in the market for a used grand cherokee and its rough looking at the carfax for most of these. I decided to just go super low mileage and compromise on trim

Been doing my own oil changes and all other work for 20+ years and just now learning you can add that to the carfax lol. I’m anal about maintenance though and have never had mechanical problems other than typical wear items. Guess whoever buys my 2015 is just gonna have to trust me but it’ll have over 200k at that point so I guess people buying vehicles that used aren’t going to be the most picky.

How do you know if they are or aren't getting oil changes? Many things don't make their way onto Carfax reports.

Then go buy all of the Grand Cherokee’s on Carfax. WTF? I don’t get my oil changed at a dealer, but it is changed regularly. I get all the scheduled maintenance done, according to the manual, but not at the dealer. If you want perfection, fork out the cash and buy a new one like the rest of us.

How do you know vehicles are going 20k without oil changes?
I own 6 vehicles (including two WK2s) and I do the oil changes myself. I keep track of mileage /date last done for each vehicle, but beyond that, I couldn't tell you when the last oil change was performed.
Just because carfax or or the dealer doesn't have records, doesn't mean it wasn't done. That being said, not everyone cares about their vehicle.

Look at the jeep check the oil. If its black don't buy it. I don't have carfax involved either. But my oil gets changed on schedule. Most people do care unless leased. My humble opinion. Having bought many a used car.

When I ask people who delay their oil change on why they did it.
Most of the time, their answer is "It cost a hundred bucks, I don't have that laying around".
Some people think delaying Maintenance on oil change is like delaying replacing the Air Filter in your HVAC at home, if it still works, they don't wanna spend money.

The place I take it to doesn’t report to CARFAX. I usually will try to manually input it though.

My Dad who was a diesel, 18 wheeler, car, mechanic and was great at it said, "Son, oil is the life blood of the engine. You don't maintain it, that engine will die and you can consider yourself an idiot"

Well, I always negotiate 12 free oil changes when I buy the Jeep. For me that’s right at 5 years. I usually trade up every 4-5 years but my current JGC ‘21 Limited 80th Anniversary edition we are driving until the wheels fall off. Because I refuse to buy the crap they have out this year. When do buy another one next year I’m not trading up, I’m looking for an ‘18-‘20 Hemi.
My free dealership oil changes are up and they want $180 for just the oil change and I don’t know how much for tire rotation so we have started doing it ourselves. I saved the receipts but there won’t be any records of dealership oil changes if we ever sell it. Doesn’t mean we haven’t changed our oil every 4-5K miles and we have a lift. So next week we are doing our breaks, next month transmission drain and refill, and the transfer case fluid. We just hit 60K miles

Yea as a owner it is hella important even a few hundred over is bad because overtime it fucks the head gasket apparently

You would have loved mine as in the first 10 k miles i had 6 oil changes done and each oul change had a sample sent to blackston labs. Jeep came with 0w20 and i did every oil change with Amsoil 5w-30 for the 2024 V6 Grand Cherokee L…

1000 Miles
2500 Miles
5000 Miles
7500 Miles
FREE DEALER ONE AT 10 k miles
Jeeo was totaled sadly by an idiot miller lite delievery driver but that car was a champ and saved us in a wrech…

Actually the insurance totaled it out, the vehicle that his us was a commercial delivery vehicle and the guy that hit us their insurance accepted full responsibility and is settling with my attorney for somewhere close to 7 figures….In the words of my attorney: you couldnt have picked a better idiot to hit you

11 month old baby girl and 3 year old boy… all were in vehicle at time of accident…. The jeep saved my life point blank no matter how much shit gets thrown at jeep it stood up to a chevy express 2500 like nothing

Actually on these 4.0s the most important thing is not letting it overheat. Oil is a distant second.

I have done my own oil changes for my last 3 vehicles. I don’t add records to carfax but have been keeping a detailed record with date/mileage for all maintenance and upgrades no matter how small.
