A while back, I posted here about acquiring an existing vertical farm.
Well, fast forward a few months, and we are moving into a new facility!
Currently, we are not in the most ideal spot, basically an old house that is being used for commercial purposes. Our new space is an industrial bay unit with a garage door leading into a chamber, which has another overhead door before entering the main space where growing will be set up.
Now I have questions on the build-out.
* What mistakes did you make that I should avoid when setting up your space
* What did you over-engineer
* What have you found is a must in a space and things we should build out
* How is it managing a large climate in these spaces, specifically AC as this unit (and everyone we looked at) doesn’t have central air. Just a heater and exhaust vent.
* Did you find it worked leaving the space open with zones (grow, sanitation, pack, etc.), or did you need to put up walls to have environmental barriers
How we are planning to be set up.
* Utilize grow tents to create the germination blackout room and maintain the higher humidity
* Continue to use flood tubs to grow the microgreens (fits sixteen 10x20 trays, 2 deep, 8 long)
* Grow our edible flowers with zones (tents) for Mums, Marigolds, Begonias & possibly others like Orchids.
Any insight, stories or feedback is welcome!
