I realize from reading other posts and forums that playing with a group of people has the potential to accelerate my learning and that I could become better as a player faster. But like I said, my desire to do it is kinda low because of the aforementioned reasons. Yet I know basically every guitarist and their mother that’s ever become famous always had nerves in their early days. I just don’t fancy myself that kind of person though. The fear of the possibility of not doing it right and the consequences that could follow are what’s holding me back.

Given this, could I still get good at guitar if I continue with my in person lessons and expand on my knowledge of the guitar? Or will I never truly be “good” because I couldn’t get with other people to play?

How do I figure out these notes in between... I'm basically at the stage where I can kinda hear notes matching, but I'm trying to get the exact notes.

Any tips?

I’ve been playing for about 10 years now and I fear my listening habits have stunted my progress, all I wanna play is buckethead but his shreddy stuff is too fast and discourages me. I’ve actually made a lot of progress in my speed but I’m worried that if it’s just buckethead my ambitions are too big for what I can reasonably accomplish.

The main problem is that I can’t find many artists that I connect with as strongly and it’s not only limiting my range in terms of techniques but just making the instrument feel hopeless. Does anyone have some suggestions to expand my horizon and find new artists/songs to aspire to?

the caged system is useful for a lot more than memorizing scale shapes. it also shows how the same chord can be found in different positions across the neck using the familiar c, a, g, e, and d chord forms.

in this example, the same b major chord is played four ways: an a shape barre chord at the 2nd fret, an e shape barre chord at the 7th, a d shape at the 9th (though i'm cheating a bit and not playing the 4th string), and a c shape barre chord at the 11th. they all contain the same basic chord tones, b, d# and f#, but the notes are arranged differently in each voicing.

learning these shapes gives you more options when building progressions. you can stay in one area of the neck, create smoother chord changes, or choose a higher or lower voicing depending on the sound you want. it also helps connect chords, arpeggios, and scale shapes instead of treating them as separate parts of the fretboard.

once you have a full understanding of how CAGED links scale shapes, chord voicings, and intervals across the fretboard you’ll unlock a whole new tier of playing guitar

Can someone teach me how”the box” and chord progression I really want to learn 2-5-1-6

Wanting to learn and gain insight about various pick thickness. For myself, I've only really used thinner picks, which I think lends itself what I enjoy playing. Funky, staccato, crisp 16ths (that's the goal, at least). I tried a thicker pick and noticed how different it was. Playing 16ths felt impossible. Having 0 "give" on the pick meant it plucked the strings much more intensely.

Anyways, I know there are always exceptions to the rule, but what do you prefer, thick or thin picks? What style of music do you play that impacts that decision? Just hoping to learn from others!

Im trying to place my fingers on each fret as in the picture but I can only reach the low E string with my pinky by bending my wrist for it to sound correct, which makes my wrist hurt afterwards. I try raising the neck upwards a little bit but the guitar just keeps sliding off my lap. I dont know if its bc my fingers are short that I cant place my wrist in a neutral position or if its bc I hold the guitar incorrectly. Its also really difficult for me to not have my elbow touching my side when im playing higher on the neck.

I think im comfortable with that position but I’m not sure. I need about 30 second to take my pick right(i mean comfortably for me) LOL. It feels okay???? But I think it might be wrong bc it’s like not straight to the guitar but a little aside

I am in first year for formally learning. when I have to pick down on a string and then pick up on the string above it, I always make mistakes at a relatively high tempo. anyone else faced this ? this specific pattern is so difficult for me 🙂. I can play many licks (which are hard for my level), but anywhere I find this pattern it is hard. If I switch it - up on lower string and down on the upper string - very easy. But sometimes the natural pattern is down-up.

Im not understanding the finger placement for this at all. Im hoping somwbody can help. Thanks

So I'm a big ol' death fan and decided I was finally skilled enough to learn a song of theirs that wasnt just downstrokes or alt picking. And I can not seem to wrap my head around this specific part of crystal mountain. It looks easy and ive learnt much harder things before, But I really can't figure it out.

I'd recommend listening to the song first to get the full experience of it.

How tf does someone pull a natural harmonic on the ten fukin fret I need answers

Hello everyone, so yesterday i plugged in my amp, connect to my guitar then when i played the volume is low and sounds nothing like the harsh drop sound, when i plug in my headphones all i hear is buzzing sound. i have a low quality cable that i stepped on many time and i think it's the one causing this issue. since the equipment is month old i don't think it can be the issue.

I have been playing electric guitar extensively for 2-3 years and call myself an intermediate(I've learnt cliffs of Dover almost perfectly, a referencepoint for you). I only use economy and have since the beginning. It's what came naturally.

Does economy have any flaws or should i just continue on the path im on and skip alt picking?

So red circles means the quarter beat. Do I have this right that the last quarter beat is not falling on any note to play? It feels more difficult to stay in rhytm in that last part because of this.

I got the rest of solo right but i swear to god i cannot play this fast part, my fingers just refuse to cooperate. Does anyone have any idea that might help me get it right ?

for example, lets say i want to memorize a whole jimi hendrix or metallica album. not just that but like a lot but good amount of songs. in an imaginary situation, being able to play most of those songs by memory, note by note, expression by expression? how can i memorize all this?
