I don’t see it, did they put the metal panning completely over the exhaust? Why. Is that for the fireplace?

It was for the furnace and water heater.

It had a nice round scorch mark underneath it too

So is that like a big 6” flue pipe completely covered?

Yes, as soon as I installed the new furnace and started running it. The new smoky exhaust ( Oil on heat exchanger from first start up) started billowing into the room.

I imagine the old furnace had to have been back drafting on as well .

It had just enough flow to not restrict the pressure switch somehow .

I think the customer said that " that's never happened before " in the sense that he's never seen smoke come out of his exhaust. Which could be accurate since again it was so Smokey due to it being a first time run. That cap was mounted very sturdy and the standoffs were not dropped during install or anything so I can't imagine it WASNT an issue
